The difference between reveal and development

queenswatchcatt:

This is just something that has been coming up a lot in talk about Lizzy in the latest arc and I wanted to address it.

Lizzy has not changed at all from the start of the story. Her goals were and have always been to sacrifice whatever is needed to make Ciel happy and to be strong so that she can fight to defend them. I suppose it is up to the reader to decide whether that is supposed to be romantic or tragic. Considering the fact that Ciel is a cold and emotionally unavailable murderer with a sadistic streak and a short lifespan I would err towards the latter, but that is just me.

She did not change, her character has not actually grown, we only learned more about her.

She is still reluctant to break her cute persona and focuses much of her energy on dresses, tea parties that that sort of thing. She still trains for the day she may have to fight or die in her role as wife to the queen’s watchdog. Ciel knows that she can fight now but it has not really affected their relationship at all. He still shares little to nothing with her and while clearly concerned for her wellbeing seems to find her and all social company more of a burden than anything. She still reacts to his withdrawal with the same sweet childish over exuberance to hide how much she is hurting.

It’s still the Lizzy we have had from day one.

In this last arc something has certainly happened to her and her proclamation that she can not save Ciel is certainly a welcome change. But I would not rush to call this development, she is clearly being manipulated and openly admits she doesn’t know why she is doing what she is doing. She may well come out of this changed but at the moment she seems like the same girl, just deeply confused. This may be the event that sparks a real change in her character but at the moment we do not know what is happening with her, what her motivations are or why/how they changed.

I do hope that this marks a change for her because she has a great character that deserves growth so I’m hopping we do see some true development for her now.

Seeing 117 spoilers: Damn, this is low even for trashbastian. Ciel is such a bad fiancee. Edward is a useless brother. Protect Lizzie from everyone else. where lau
Actually reading 117: Damn, this is the most understanding trashbastian’s ever been. Ciel and Edward love Lizzie so much. Sebastian is such a shameless cielizzy shipper. Protect Lizzie from HERSELF. where lau

10 Reasons To Watch Gintama

toomanyshipsandfandoms:

1. Character designs—go google Sakata Gintoki. Or Hijikata Toshirou. Or Okita Sougo. Or Kamui. Or Katsura Kotarou. Or Takasugi Shinsuke. Or Kagura. Or Tsukuyo. Or Kyuubei. Or any Gintama character for that matter.

2. It makes you laugh. And by laugh I mean desperately muffling your face in a pillow with tears streaming from your eyes at 2:00 a.m. because you’re watching Gintama’s Owee or Vacation Arc while everyone else is asleep.

3. It makes you cry. And by cry I mean desperately muffling your face in a pillow with tears streaming from your eyes at 2:00 a.m. because you’re watching Gintama’s Shinsengumi Crisis Arc or Beam Sword Style Arc while everyone else is asleep.

4. Characters and character relationships—tired of the same old Mary/Gary Stu? Watch this anime. Even a side character who only appears once or twice will be ingrained into your mind. All characters have multiple layers; there is no flat, boring character without depth. The relationships are solid, and the characters do not need to say “I love you” every 21 seconds to get the point across. Love is seen in their familiarity and actions.

5. It is a perfect blend of genres—want some sci-fi? Watch Gintama. Want some tragedy? Watch Gintama. Want some peak comradeship/shounen fighting? Watch Gintama. Want comedy? Watch Gintama. Want some historical Japan? Watch Gintama. Want samurai? Watch Gintama. Want action? Watch Gintama. Want slice of life? Watch Gintama. Basically just WATCH GINTAMA.

6. Soundtrack—so good. Go listen to any Gintama opening. The song will surely be stuck in your head.

7. It is unique and original. Tired of the same old shounen, with the underdog tween hero and the big dream, training montages, and unrealistically relentless determination? Gintama presents to you a fresh protagonist, Sakata Gintoki. If you can name another anime that has an arc based on a popularity poll then darn, you got me. If not, then GO WATCH GINTAMA.

8. There’s Elizabeth. That’s it. Just Elizabeth.

9. The stories are so beautifully told. In 3 episodes, it can convey the same messages and stories that another anime may take 20 episodes to tell. Are you busy? Can’t go on an anime binge? No worries. Just watch one of arc Gintama to pass your time. Maybe 2-8 episodes. Plus the backstories hurt.

10. Gintama blows everything out of the park. (You can trust me, as I’ve seen tons of anime but once I found Gintama it was like I found something I never knew I was looking for, as if this whole time I’ve just been watching anime in search of Gintama.) I can’t watch anything else anymore. It all seems mediocre compared to Gintama.

Probably just me, but it’s personally heartwarming for me to see how Misty Fey inspired Larry on his path to becoming a children’s book author now by the time of Ace Attorney 6, 10 years after her death in Trials and Tribulation.

Ch 116 review: dogs

rationalkuroshitsuji:

(ch 116 pg 13 – source)

Ciel could have named his demon “Diedrich” and it still would have worked thematically.

This is the most Vincent-y we’ve seen Ciel in a little while. For me this scene reflects how much trust has eroded between Ciel and Sebastian since Sebastian nearly ended the contract in the Emerald Witch arc.

Sebastian isn’t taking this teasing in a playful way. This is tiresome for him. It’s not part of the butler game he enjoys. Not only is Ciel is behaving so much like Vincent, Sebastian is taking it the way Diedrich did.

Im curious what role u think hide will play in tg and what his situation is. I honestly feel like ppl expect far too much from hide

floppyamon:

I was gonna answer this later but it seems like this chapter answered it for us

Currently, Hide is Kaneki’s excuse for being a martyr, so if Hide hasn’t died yet (which is probable since Hide could’ve stuck his leg out and made Kaneki eat that or something) Kaneki won’t have an excuse to die in a suicidal way

But the thing is, there is a panel in TG where a dragon (Amon’s symbolism) is commanded by a magician (Hide’s tarot)

And Amon and Hide were the two who flat out stated they didn’t want Kaneki to die (and that Kaneki stated he didn’t ever want to harm) so when those two arrive on the scene, Kaneki’s martyrdom
will be halted indefinitely

No excuses to die any more if two people who care about you immensely are actually alive and forbid you to die ; u; b

I think often people forget that Ciel would be dead without Sebastian. He is living on borrowed time and he knows that. It’s a really interesting part of their dynamic and I think that people get so caught up in the idea that Sebastian might end Ciel’s life that they forget he wouldn’t have one with out him.

True Lizzy

shinigami-mistress:

This has always been one of favorite images of Lizzy, and I had always thought it so telling of her. Here she’s show as a pretty, young girl; just innocent enough to look right holding a toy in her arms. She’s surrounded by material items that could also be seen as pretty such as hats, shoes, dresses, flowers, etc. The swords are the only contrast, the hint of Lizzy’s inner strength, but even they have attempted to be disguised by flowers and ribbons. This picture so perfectly represents Lizzy, but when I happened to look at it again, I realized something that I hadn’t considered previously.

The swords are pinning Lizzy to her place.

Lizzy is trapped in her beautiful, material world. She is being forced, by society, to appear like a cute girl who wants nothing more than flowers and perfume. The swords are the only oddity, but even they have been covered by flowers and ribbon so they look more like decorations than weapons.

Madam Red’s advice to Lizzy has been criticized, and rightly so. Telling a girl that she should only appear cute, naïve, fragile, and less intelligent is the only way to find wrong is wrong, but it’s actually not too far from the way of thinking of the time period. Honestly, you’ll still find people with these ideas today. This is what society expected of Lizzy.

At the same time, she knew she had to strong in order to protect Ciel. She was a genius with the blade, but she still trained. She gladly accepted the role to protect someone she loved. This created a dilemma however. Society wanted her weak. Ciel needed her to be strong. She couldn’t be both, but she felt she had to be. She was trapped.

However, being trapped wasn’t what caused Lizzy’s anguish. What upset her was that she was worried she couldn’t be both the wife Ciel wanted while still being the wife that he needed. She somehow had to manage to be both extremes, and she was willing to try.

For Ciel.

Looking Into the Present

shinigami-mistress:

From the moment that Bravat was introduced on the big questions have been whether or not he has any abilities, he has insider information, or is really good at reading people. The idea of just reading people seems a bit farfetched considering how he knew Sebastian wasn’t human, but he still could use reading people along with the other two. As I considered the issue, however, I realized something odd.

Bravat doesn’t really tell anyone’s fortune.

He tells them what star they are protected by, what issues they are currently facing, and a possibilty about the future. Take the first woman for example. He remarks she as issue with choosing a man from all the men around her. He plays this off even by making a joke how he could tell this by her bust. When he talks of her future, he just says that she might want to look elsewhere. He remarks she’ll find her radiance there – probably. That’s not a ringing endorsement for his abilities.

Next, there’s Lizzy. She’s told about her protective star is Canopus, but the ‘shocking’ information about her is all about what’s going on presently with Ciel. While it’s odd he would know this, it’s not the future. The only thing he says about her future is there’s a bright future beyond her anguish. That’s terribly vague, and the idea that you’ll be happier after you go through some sadness isn’t exactly revolutionary.

The odd thing is that he’d already ‘hooked’ Lizzy by talking about her current problem, which isn’t well known. Bravat could have told Lizzy practically anything that moment about her future, and she would have believed him. If Bravat could tell the future, this would be a great time to demonstrate this. Even if he just wanted to pretend that he only had this ability, here would be the time to show it.

The same is true for Ciel. Again, he’s told all about his present issues – the darkness stalking his light. If Bravat can tell a person’s future, he’s keeping his mouth shut.

I think it’s more likely that Bravat can’t see the future. I’m not saying he doesn’t have any supernatural abilities, but I’m no so sure if seeing the future is among his powers.

Besides, if Bravat could really see the future, he’d know better than teasing Lizzy about her chest with Edward standing nearby.

harostar:

Oh god, I hate Fanon Kaneki so much.

  • Kuroneki the whiny uke.
  • Shironeki the sadistic badass.
  • Sasaki the weakling.
  • Akaneki the cold badass that doesn’t care.

NONE OF THESE ARE TRUE.

Kaneki was, during the first half of the series, someone very conflicted about things. He was struggling to adjust to being thrown into a violent world, and what we have recently learned about his childhood abuse makes it clear why he would have a problem with being violent. But he still decided that he was willing to fight for the people that matter. He trained hard, defeated Amon, almost beat the S-rated Bin Brothers, and fought tooth and nail against stronger opponents like Tsukiyama and Yamori. He wasn’t just some wimp that cried and whined, he worked hard to change things.

His post-Aogiri self was a trainwreck. He was deeply traumatized and acting out in distinctly self-destructive ways. He pushed away so many of the people he loved, was engaging in serial cannibalism and murderous vigilantism, playing Judge, Jury, and Executioner while still holding human lives as above those of Ghouls, and pretty much in a very dark place. His friends were terrified for him but uncertain of how he help, and he was spiraling further and further into madness. He himself has now admitted that he was suicidal, that he WANTED TO DIE at V14. Kaneki was in a horrible place.

While the pressures of his lost memories and uncertainty weighed heavily on him, Sasaki was in a relatively good place. He had become a stable member of society, with a career and a home, with a surrogate family and many friends. He was no longer withdrawn, becoming social and easily participating in the life that Kaneki usually avoided. But for all the good things he did have, he was still running away from his problems. He had great strength, but feared it and held back.

This current Kaneki is impossible to gauge now, since he’s not in a normal situation. He’s in a traumatic life-or-death situation, rightful angry at the monster that has ruined so many lives, and dealing with so many things emotionally and mentally. He hasn’t had the chance to stop and process things, much like during the Aogiri Arc he was basically running on adrenaline right up until the others showed up. He’s very likely due for a crash, once the high comes to an end.

But there’s no indication that he is some kind of selfish, cold-hearted monster. He’s a troubled young man with a lot of rightful anger, with a ton of shit he’s dealing with. He hasn’t had a chance to process it all.

Give him time before you label him “Uncaring”.
