Looking Into the Present

From the moment that Bravat was introduced on the big questions have been whether or not he has any abilities, he has insider information, or is really good at reading people. The idea of just reading people seems a bit farfetched considering how he knew Sebastian wasn’t human, but he still could use reading people along with the other two. As I considered the issue, however, I realized something odd.

Bravat doesn’t really tell anyone’s fortune.

He tells them what star they are protected by, what issues they are currently facing, and a possibilty about the future. Take the first woman for example. He remarks she as issue with choosing a man from all the men around her. He plays this off even by making a joke how he could tell this by her bust. When he talks of her future, he just says that she might want to look elsewhere. He remarks she’ll find her radiance there – probably. That’s not a ringing endorsement for his abilities.

Next, there’s Lizzy. She’s told about her protective star is Canopus, but the ‘shocking’ information about her is all about what’s going on presently with Ciel. While it’s odd he would know this, it’s not the future. The only thing he says about her future is there’s a bright future beyond her anguish. That’s terribly vague, and the idea that you’ll be happier after you go through some sadness isn’t exactly revolutionary.

The odd thing is that he’d already ‘hooked’ Lizzy by talking about her current problem, which isn’t well known. Bravat could have told Lizzy practically anything that moment about her future, and she would have believed him. If Bravat could tell the future, this would be a great time to demonstrate this. Even if he just wanted to pretend that he only had this ability, here would be the time to show it.

The same is true for Ciel. Again, he’s told all about his present issues – the darkness stalking his light. If Bravat can tell a person’s future, he’s keeping his mouth shut.

I think it’s more likely that Bravat can’t see the future. I’m not saying he doesn’t have any supernatural abilities, but I’m no so sure if seeing the future is among his powers.

Besides, if Bravat could really see the future, he’d know better than teasing Lizzy about her chest with Edward standing nearby.
