Considering the new Garden info (be still, my poor heart), Rize is obliviously not just a figment of Kaneki’s imagination anymore so can I say that I am glad she was still self-aware and able to remember that meeting with Kaneki? Perhaps there is hope she can return to normal?
Also, Arata.
Friendly reminder that Lau probably is 100% aware that supernatural beings exist and that Seb is one of them.
I actually wouldn’t be surprised if he even knows about Seb being an actual demon, although it doesn’t have to go this far. Besides, tbh this raises an even bigger question mark about who/what Ran-Mao is, since she’s fishy too. [x] [x]
Here’s the thing like Mikasa still clearly cares about Eren and cares enough about his situation to be there. She doesn’t like what he’s doing but she stays loyal to him anyway. That being said, she has the right to express her feelings on the matter. She’s very upset that Eren has pushed himself this far and it makes her sad. Just because she said that what Eren did was “irredeemable” doesn’t mean that she suddenly thinks he’s a huge sack of shit who’s beyond all hope or anything. She’s concerned about the consequences of his actions. He killed innocent people, including children, who didn’t do anything wrong. It’s a horrifying thing to do and she knows this and wants to make sure that Eren understands this as well (and he does!). I feel like this is just her way of saying, “look you can’t come back from this and there are a lot of people who will never forgive you for this.” It’s not to say she thinks he’s a horrible person, just that he’s done something horrible. She’s clearly upset about the effect that this going to have and has already had. She loves him, she’s always going to, but it pains her to see him come to this point. She has the right to express that.
BTW I love how Casca appears to be completely insane and yetshe is hyper-aware of everything around her on a completely meta level, more so than any characters, since everything is truthfully depicted in her dreams.
This makes me love her even more because I don’t know how many Berserk readers called her useless or not plot-relevant anymore over the years, but Sensei proved them all wrong with just how freaking accurate her dreams turned out to be.
We’re heading towards Berserk’s ending when Casca comes back guys, she’s definitely going to lead that magic army right up to Falconia and demand her son back. Griffith will regret having taught her to use a sword to get what she wants.
Okay, I know I wrote this post about who Casca possibly was speaking about in this scene already, but gosh I feel so
very sad for Guts, because Sensei is very probably not going to let him be happy soon.
Or if their reunion is a happy one (plz sensei ;_;) then it won’t last, because, considering the amount of times we were warned, I don’t think Guts’ wish will end up being Casca’s wish, at least not until they sort all their problems out, starting by addressing the events of vol23.
However, I’m kinda scared because Guts became so dependent on the idea that Casca would be by side again (to the point that it literally obliterated his thoughts of revenge against Griffth) that…
who knows if that might not be enough to release the beast of darkness within him?
…Actually, maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part, but I’d love for Guts to also be given a chance to look back on the fact that, just like Casca, he didn’t cope at all with what happened during the Eclipse while they’re on Skellig. Casca ended up becoming insane after the Eclipse while Guts became consummed by revenge and that’s not something he has yet to solve either.
That’s why he clung so hard onto the only hope he was given in vol28, which was Casca’s recovery and the idea that things between them would go back to the way they were before the Eclipse, a time where he truly was happy. Except they won’t, at least not right away.
That’s kinda why I’m hoping he talks to someone or gets a chance to look back on things, just like Casca was given, if just because narratively speaking he’s been stagnating for a while. Wait, no, that’s not particularly true because he admitted to relying on his friends more easily now, but still, he’s in need of help (especially if Sensei ever intends on breaking up that nasty parallel to Gambino).
So I was thinking, maybe it’s gonna be (a part of) Gedfryn’s role?
For obvious reasons, I’m expecting something from that guy in the current plot, but maybe I’m wrong and that look was just because he knew Guts had things to say about Femto.
Meeeeeeephyyyyyyyy, what are you planning, what’s that damn key about? The key to go search Yukio, to knowing the truth?
For real though, I was rereading back a few chapters and, even if he’s a huge asshole, I just love the way Mephy plans stuff ahead, there is really no equivalent to how great a chessmaster he is, I mean…
you’re literally the king of time bby, of course you said that to piss him off and make him go to the Illuminati.
Because Yukio going to the Illuminati would obviously force Rin to ask about the truth in order to bring his brother back (since Yukio is obsessed with understanding why Shiro didn’t kill them), having to destroy the Illuminati who will want to keep Yukio in the process…
Because the Illuminati and Lucifer want Satan to also be able to materialize in Assiah, something that will easily happen or so Satan seems to think, probably because Mephy made some kind of pact with him about stopping his destruction of Assiah during the Blue Night in exchange for being given Rin as a vessel once he’d be ready:
Except that Mephy is obviously lying to his “father”, because he’s not on Satan’s side since he doesn’t want to see Assiah or humankind completely annihilated by Satan:
Mephy loves his human toys
However, Mephy bullshitting Satan is probably going to explode back to his face at some point, not that he’s not already expecting it. I guess that’s why he said…
because he too will surely have to fight at one moment or another (as Rin’s backup against Lucifer & the other Baals on his side maybe?) and maybe that’s why Sensei once implied we’d see Mephy’s demon heart in the story.
It’s probably going to be one hell of a fight if/when it happens (anyone remember him getting angry at Rin in ch66?) and I’m totally looking forward to it. 😀
So yeah, Mephy’s planning is top-notch but what particularly gets to me is the fact that, by doing all that, he’s precisely proving us and Shura wrong when it comes to the whole “demons can’t understand humans because they have no feelings”…
…because he explained before that being a Baal and losing their vessel was the worst thing ever for them and yet, he’s been prepared to go all out and to sacrifice even his own vessel at some point (”I cannot abandon this body just yet”, as if foreshadowing that he would have to later)in order to make sure that Assiah would survive Satan.
So yeah he may be an asshole, a trickster and sees everyone as his toys, but he’s Assiah’s biggest ally alright.
…Anyway, so what is this key around Rin’s neck about, Mephy? I can’t wait to know.
Ahhhhh I haven’t read ch1 in so long I totally forgot, thanks for bringing that up!
okay so, more accurate question becomes WHAT DID YOU HIDE MEPHY?!
Frankly I’m wondering if it might not be for opening some sort of parallel dimension/timeline that Mephy created
(like where Neuhaus is), in order to let Rin find out by himself about what happened during the Blue Night.
I mean, obviously Mephy was only going to tell him about his origins once he’d have broken the sword/seal over his demon heart in Gehenna. …Oh, maybe it can also take him to where Yuri was buried by Shiro or Mephisto?
Or maybe it just has to do with Rin’s powers somehow… Anyway, thanks for reminding me! 😀 I guess we’ll see next month.

Kaneki, Hide and Uta in the sewers by @kingkishou [x][x]
honestly i love all these theories
Insane theory 2.0: what if Kaneki isn’t the one who hurt Hide’s mouth/throat to the point he could hardly talk without an equipment, because
either he only met Uta (or one of his kakuja clones, but same deal) in the sewers,
or there were two Hides, but Kaneki only ate the one who was actually Uta?
Meeting Uta in the sewers would explain the possible weird thing going on with Kaneki’s right eye during V14 (please see @kingkishou‘s theory I linked to above) + why Uta had Kaneki’s mask in :Re, despite Kaneki throwing it away in the sewers (even if, of course, Uta could have also simply done another similar mask between TG and :Re since he’s the one who crafted that mask anyway).
And in that case, instead of Kaneki, maybe the one who did something to Hide’s mouth/throat, way after V14 (which is to say between TG and :Re) is…
…Eto? After all we know Eto and Hide possibly have/had a link ever since this scene:
and we still haven’t received an explanation for these stitches Eto did on people.
but the Hide Kaneki saw and the Hide he ate (which is the part we have yet to see) were two different persons. Or he saw and ate the same Hide but it was actually Uta all along.
What I find interesting in this theory, besides more answers about some stuff Eto did, is that we know Kaneki is going to blame himself so much for what he did down in the sewers, so imagine if in fact he’s not responsible at all for this. xD Mind blowing for poor Kaneki really.
(also “Hide” not being Hide in the sewers but Uta would explain how “Hide” managed to escape after Kaneki started eating him)
I’m bringing back this crack theory of “Eto is the one who did this to Hide” (thanks @kingkishou for reminding me), because, look,
narratively speaking I wonder if it wouldn’t be a huge step forward for Kaneki to try and take responsibility for “killing his best friend” too (since he still thinks that’s what happened) only to realize that is at least one thing that he didn’t do.
The risk Kaneki is facing after this new development (now that he admitted that he’s happy because some people love him for what he is) is to start considering that everything bad that happened is his fault and that he should bear the burden of all the guilt by himself, because he decided he’d take responsibility.
However, in that case, finding out that he’s not the one who did that to Hide might end up breaking that mentality and make him realize that he’s not the worst person ever. Just some thoughts.
Again, here are the reasons I like the “Hide was maimed by Eto” theory:
how was a supposedly normal human like Hide able to stop Kaneki from completely eating him once he had started?
how did a supposedly normal human like Hide manage to escape the sewers severely injured, after Kaneki ate a part of his face/throat?“
the eye thing in V14 (see above)
Uta having Kaneki’s mask in :Re when Kaneki threw it away in the sewers
=> for all these points “Hide” actually being Uta solves it all.
what about Eto stitching people, that was never addressed?
I know it’s a crack theory but it would tie Hide to both Eto and the Clowns, which would make sense since there is definitely some truth he’s hiding! So I like it a lot and if it can help with Kaneki’s on-going development, it’s even better. ^_^
