I want to start reading Black Butler. Where do I start from? I’ve only watched (all) anime.

Hey Anon! Aww I’m glad you are wishing to give the manga a chance, it’s way better than the anime :))))

I don’t know if you meant Book of Circus and Book of Murder when you meant “all anime” though, so I’m just going to explain where the arcs start and what’s the link with the animes so you can see where you want to start 🙂

-> If you’ve only watched s1 (and s2, not that s2 is important):

  • either you start reading the manga from ch6 to onward (and it takes up after episode 4 of S1 onto the Jack the Ripper arc)
  • or you start reading from ch14 (and it takes up after episode 6 of S1 after the Jack the Ripper arc and onto the Curry arc)

Now, even if you’ve watched Book of Circus (and Book of Murder?), I’d still advise to read the manga version of these arcs, because of the amazing art and because a few minor scenes were not included in the animated adaptations.

Basically here is how the manga works:

  • From ch6 to ch14: the Jack the Ripper arc (same as in s1, except for ch14 that wasn’t adaptated)
  • From ch15 to ch23: the Curry Arc (not faithfully adaptated in s1, because Angela’s character doesn’t exist + the end is… different)
  • From ch24 to ch36-37: the Circus arc (aka the anime Book of Circus, ch37 wasn’t adaptated)
  • From ch38 to ch50: the Murders at Manor arc (aka the 2 OVAs Book of Murder)

The animated adaptations currently stop with Book of Murder, even if Book of the Atlantic (a movie) will come out in January 2017, covering the Campania arc (though we have yet to see whether this will be faithful to the manga’s content or not).
So depending on what you watched, you can start where you want 🙂 The arcs that have yet to be animated being:

  • From ch51 to ch66: the Campania arc (soon covered by Book of the Atlantic)
  • From ch67 to ch85: the Weston arc
  • From ch86 to ch107: the Green Witch arc
  • From ch108 to currently on going: the Blue Sect arc

I’d personally advise you to start either on ch6 or ch14, depending on what you remember of the Jack the Ripper arc, but really take your pick :))

I hope it helps Anon! Have a nice day/evening :))

Hi I’m new to tumblr and I don’t know, is it possible to ‘scroll’ to the very first posts on this blog?

midnight-in-town:

Hey Anon 🙂 Welcome to tumblr then and thank you for passing by this blog!

On my blog, there are only ten posts by pages but I have a total of 8,316 posts, which basically makes 831 pages to read for you, so I wouldn’t advise you to go back that far, especially since I didn’t always blog about what I am blogging right now.

I think you should use the series’ respective tags: depending on which series you’re looking for on my blog, it will be easier for you to search through the tag of each series. For example:

In case you’re looking for something more precise in these series, I have other tags you can look for. Let’s say you’re interested by theories, since I didn’t always blog about those, here are the tags you should use:

  • For Kuroshitsuji, the tag is Kuroshitsuji theory (currently 48 pages)
  • For Tokyo ghoul, the tag is Tg theory (currently 37 pages)
  • For Shingeki no kyojin, the tag is Snk theory (currently 6 pages)

If you’re interested by stuff I wrote, you should check:

-> Any post of the meta page, analysis or anon tags are also tagged by the series’ tag as well as its respective theory tag.

I have tried to make the blog easy to navigate through by the “menu” on the left:

image

So feel free to click on those items as they redirect to the rules and meta pages, the askbox, the theories for Kuroshitsuji and TG, as well as the analysis and anon tags.

After that, you also have the characters’ tags you can check if you’re interested by a character in particular, the only thing to keep in mind is that characters with Japanese names are tagged in the order Family name + First name (Kaneki-Ken…) and characters with occidental names are tagged in the usual order First name + Family name (for example Eren-Jaeger, Ciel-Phantomhive….).

But you know Anon, I wrote all that, but if you’re looking for something in particular, you can ask me the tag for it and I can redirect you to the very first page 😉 If you want to do it by yourself though, here’s how it works:

http://midnight-in-town.tumblr.com/tagged/OOO/page/XXX

OOO” is where you add your tag, space between words being represented by (for example shingekinokyojin).
“XXX” is the page number, write a random number and if you went too far ahead, click on “newer” until you see some posts 🙂

Sorry, I hope this huge thing is helpful, I have no idea what you know or don’t about this website, so I ended up writing everything I could think of.

Enjoy your tumblr experience Anon 🙂 And have a nice day!

Aaaah…! You’re welcome, I’m glad if it was useful then ^_^ Sorry, I just never know when to stop whenever I explain things haha.

Have a nice day Anon! ^_^

The Three Laws of Fandom

kamidiox:

heidi8:

darthstitch:

notreadytosettle:

ozhawkauthor:

If you wish to take part in any fandom, you need to accept and respect these three laws.

If you aren’t able to do that, then you need to realise that your actions are making fandom unsafe for creators. That you are stifling creativity.

Like vaccination, fandom only works if everyone respects these rules. Creators need to be free to make their fanart, fanfics and all other content without fear of being harassed or concern-trolled for their creative choices, no matter whether you happen to like that content or not.

The First Law of Fandom

Don’t Like; Don’t Read (DL;DR)

It is up to you what you see online. It is not anyone else’s place to tell you what you should or should not consume in terms of content; it is not up to anyone else to police the internet so that you do not see things you do not like. At the same time, it is not up to YOU to police fandom to protect yourself or anyone else, real or hypothetical.

There are tools out there to help protect you if you have triggers or squicks. Learn to use them, and to take care of your own mental health. If you are consuming fan-made content and you find that you are disliking it – STOP.

The Second Law of Fandom

Your Kink Is Not My Kink (YKINMK)

Simply put, this means that everyone likes different things. It’s not up to you to determine what creators are allowed to create. It’s not up to you to police fandom

If you don’t like something, you can post meta about it or create contrarian content yourself, seek to convert other fans to your way of thinking.

But you have no right to say to any creator “I do not like this, therefore you should not create it. Nobody should like this. It should not exist.”

It’s not up to you to decide what other people are allowed to like or not like, to create or not to create. That’s censorship. Don’t do it.

The Third Law of Fandom

Ship And Let Ship (SALS)

Much (though not all) fandom is about shipping. There are as many possible ships as there are fans, maybe more. You may have an OTP (One True Pairing), you may have a NOTP, that pairing that makes you want to barf at the very thought of its existence.

It’s not up to you to police ships or to determine what other people are allowed to ship. Just because you find that one particular ship problematic or disgusting, does not mean that other people are not allowed to explore its possibilities in their fanworks.

You are free to create contrarian content, to write meta about why a particular ship is repulsive, to discuss it endlessly on your private blog with like-minded persons.

It is not appropriate to harass creators about their ships, it is not appropriate to demand they do not create any more fanworks about those ships, or that they create fanwork only in a manner that you deem appropriate.

These three laws add up to the following:

You are not paying for fanworks content, and you have no rights to it other than to choose to consume it, or not consume it. If you do choose to consume it, do not then attack the creator if it wasn’t to your taste. That’s the height of bad manners.

Be courteous in fandom. It makes the whole experience better for all of us.

Yup.

Slaps onto blog.

Basically this.

I may add: “Thou shalt no question why others ship whatever they ship”

Hi *-* I have a question about BB: It’s about when the german shinigami get spotted by Ciel, they take a look on his family tree. There can Claudia P. and Vincent be seen, but there is no branch leading from Vincent’s parents to Vincent’s sister Francis Midford. Drawing Error? :// ( sry for my bad English xd)

Hey Anon 😀 Looks like I got it this time ^_^ And don’t worry about your English, it’s really good!

As for your question, haha, you’re definitely not the only one who thought that way initially, but there is no need to worry, I doubt Yana would make such a mistake. ^^

I’ve answered this question countless time to be honest, so I hope you don’t mind if I quote myself from the post I initially made on this subject (here, point 2):

image

The tree panel is in reference to Ciel’s lineage, discussed by Ludgar/Rudgar and Sascha because our MC just spotted them. So the tree shown is aboutCiel, not the Phantomhive family.
Of course, Frances is Ciel’s aunt, his father’s sister so they share a blood connection, but that tree only shows direct relatives and that doesn’t include aunts, uncles or cousins.
Direct relatives are siblings, father, mother, grandparents and sometimes great-grandparents, the people who directly transmitted blood to Ciel, and that’s indeed what’s showing on Ciel’s tree. Claudia made Vincent and Frances, and as siblings they have the exact same blood (assuming Frances’ father is Cedric too). Then Vincent married Rachel and they had Ciel, so Frances and Ciel’s connection stops at Vincent. She’s neither his sister nor his mother so she’s not a direct relative and doesn’t appear on that tree.

This tree is of the simplest kind, basically because it only shows direct relatives (don’t worry, that means Madam Red isn’t on Rachel’s side of the tree either, Rachel’s parents supposedly are there though).

Let’s imagine that Yana had drawn Elizabeth’s tree: Frances’ name would show up, so would Alexis’, Edward’s, Alexis’ parents’ and Frances’ parents’ but not Vincent or Ciel’s name. As for Vincent’s tree: Frances would be there, their parents as well and the grandparents on the two sides.

That’s the probable explanation for me. Just for your curiosity’s sake though, here are a few different explanations others have proposed in case this one doesn’t satisfy you 🙂

  • The family tree is a part of the Shinigamis’ files, so it only shows the dead people in Ciel’s family -> could totally be a reason indeed and I like it a lot too (because in that case bye bye “2CT hint” of ch103). In that case Frances wouldn’t be on the tree because she’s still alive 🙂
  • Frances married in the Midford family so now she only belongs in the Midford family tree -> and why not?
  • Frances and Vincent are actually half-siblings (different fathers) -> and in that case she wouldn’t be on that tree because Yana didn’t want to reveal that particular point back at the time of ch103 (for plot-related reasons).

Honestly, I simply think that if Yana had included Frances it probably wouldn’t have fit in the panel which is why she settled on not including Frances (and her children). 🙂 Also since the Shinigamis mention a special lineage, I’m thinking the only hint in regards to that in this panel is “Cedric K. Ros” anyway.

I hope it helps! Thank you for passing by! :)))

I think the « it was supposed to be a Yaoi » rumour just as stupid as the people who say it’s canon that Undertaker’s real name is Adrian Crevan, I swear to hell and heaven, I have seen so many people who claim it to be canon without evidence and then they get angry when they get told it’s just a headcanon gone out of control. (If people like it, whatever, but claiming it’s canon is just dumb.)

akumadeenglish:

Oh, that “Adrian Crevan” rumour… I remember I was like “Pardon, WHO!!!??” when I heard that name for the first time haha! (≧▽≦)

Anyway, it’s not aslways easy to distinguish false rumours from facts, especially when the rumour has already spread around the whole fandom. Maybe we should try to gather all information and sort out what is true (canon) and what is not confirmed (yet)? =D The few rumours I’ve come across in my 1 year of tumblr experience are:

  • Tanaka is Ciel’s grandfather.

No. Ciel (and Vincent) occasionally calls Tanaka “Jiiya”
(じいや) which actually means “old man”. It’s a way
    noble
kids in Japan refer to their old male servants, especially whom they are
    very close to.
I guess people got a bit confused since the online translation team translated it as
    ‘gramps/grandpa’ =D

  • Kuroshitsuji was originally supposed to be a yaoi manga but the company asked Yana to change it so it would sell better.

No. There’s no reliable source from Yana’s side. More information can be obtained here and here.

  • Undertaker’s real name is Adrian Crevan.

    No. “It
is a headcanon that spread around. It was posted to the
kuroshitsujiheadcanons blog (which is no long running) and got shared
    around a fair bit.
” (information from @spectactles, thank you!)

  • Doll is a boy.

No. She’s definitely a girl. (source: read the manga! =D)

  • Mey-Rin is Chinese.

Not confirmed in the manga yet, but very likely considering her name and her broken English.
At least in the character guide it’s explicitly mentioned that she’s Chinese (see below. Though these are the early sketches Yana drew before the serialization of the manga started, so there’s the slight chance that Yana changed it). Translation of
Yana’s scribbles: “Mey-Rin (Chinese); [*speaks] broken English. That’s
why her English is a bit weird.”

image
  • Sebastian is Lucifer/Satan/fallen angel/Vincent.

Neither confirmed nor denied. Yana never stated anything about Sebastian’s identity and probably won’t ever reveal it, though she once stated that Sebastian is a “natural-born” demon  (source: here and here)

  • Fujiwara Cocoa and Yana were best friends. → Not really, they never met each other in person.
They were the same age, but
when it comes to their career as a mangaka,

Fujiwara Cocoa was Yana’s senpai, so Yana had great respect for her. The
only mangaka Yana hangs out regularly with is Mimori-sensei. (source: Cocoa + Mimori)

  • Ciel’s soul is something special.

In the anime yes, but not necessarily in the manga! At least Will once said that there’s nothing special about Ciel’s soul =D (source: here)

Hope this helped clarifying some of the rumours! =D

Do you think CIEL love Lzzie in romantic way? Bro-sis way? Something like that.

shinigami-mistress:

Hello Anon, and thanks for the question.

This is actually a difficult question in a way, and everyone has their own opinion on it. What follows is simply my opinion on the matter.

I think Ciel certainly cares for Lizzy and probably loves her more than anyone else at the moment – especially considering his parents are dead. She’s one of the few links he has to his happy childhood. I hesitate qualifying their relationship as being romantic for a few reasons.

Ciel is young, and it would be difficult for a 13 year old boy to romantically love. Add to this the emotional trauma of seeing his parents killed and being kidnapped, which would actually stunt his emotional growth.Think back to the green witch arc after Ciel was affected by the gas. He relieved his trauma and mentally reverted for a bit to a scared, little boy. Mentally, he’s still back in that place. He may be 13 and try to act like a confident adult, but a part of him is still a terrified 10 year old.

Even if Ciel was emotionally mature enough to romantically love, he doesn’t want to allow himself to love anyone. He especially doesn’t want Lizzy to get too close since he’s afraid of hurting her or putting her in danger. He has this wall built up to keep her out, and he simply feels he doesn’t deserve love. Plus, with Sebastian’s influence, Ciel views love as a weakness and one that he cannot afford to hamper his mission.

I feel that Lizzy truly loves Ciel. She’s also young and somewhat sheltered, so she might not be capable of romantic love either just yet, but Ciel is, at the very least, the closest she has come to loving someone in that way presently. If she doesn’t love him romantically yet, she will be able to do so in the future. In fact, I think there’s a chance that Lizzy will be the one to truly try to save Ciel in the end, and she will have the best chance at success if Ciel wishes to be saved.

I think Ciel and Lizzy are adorable together. If she was to be able to save him and Ciel allows himself to love, then she would probably be the only one he could love romantically. I hesitate to say that either one of them are there yet, but who knows what the future might hold.

Thanks for the question, Anon. Have a wonderful Kuro Positivity Day!
