rough translation:

From Victorian era through to modern times, the British police doesn’t carry guns (though afaik Northern Ireland does) because apparently they think that “no gun should be pointed at citizens”. This is awesome. Hence, in Kuroshitsuji, too, Abberline as well as the other officers don’t carry guns. On the other hand, the Watchdog who is supposed to do things that the police can’t, shoots without hesitation. –Toboso

Lately, I regret that I didn’t elaborate more on the struggles of Abberline and the police, as well as the outrageous behaviour of the Queen’s watchdog [when it comes to investigation]. The reason why Commissioner Randall despises the Phantomhives so much is that he can’t stand their arrogance, acting as though they are above the law (though it’s for the sake of the early solution of the crime). –Toboso

As was the case with JTR arc and Blue Sect arc, it must be really frustrating to the police how – while they are investigating legally and peacefully – the Phantomhives catch the criminal by using immoral methods and firing the gun like mad… –Toboso

Basically, Ciel is only called upon either when the case has already claimed a lot of victims or when there are still too many uncertainties that the police can’t start investigating. That’s why the Phantomhives aren’t welcomed [by the police]. If I was called “incompetent” by some cheater who comes late and doesn’t even follow the rules at all, I’d punch him. But unlike me, Randall and Abberline act like proper adults [when they meet OC at a crime scene]…  –Toboso

Bonus: if anyone’s interested, here’s a bbc article on this issue

(1/2) I highly recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion, it truly is the greatest anime of all time, and I’m not saying this lightly. Don’t be mistaken and think it is just some regular shounen about giant robots, ’cause it’s not, that’s only the surface. Evangelion at its core is a human drama with deep psychological and philosophical themes and realistic characters. It’s often dismissed as pretentious, but you’d be easily capable of understanding its brilliance.

image

Hey Anon and thank you very much! ^3^ I was recommended Evangelion before so it is already on the list!

It’s definitely a series I intend to watch one day, I know a little about it already actually, so no worries and you’ll know I am getting into it because I tend to reblog about any new series I start. 😀

Thanks for passing by and sharing :3 I wish you a lovely week!

how did you find about the story Berserk? did another blogger tell you about it?

Hi Anon! And nope, it was one of my best friends irl (see, I always love getting rec from people), two years or so before I ended up starting it.

He was really into it and was sure I’d love it too, but casually looking up for a summary or just opening up google image back then didn’t convince me.
I found it way too violent on first glance and thought that I wanted something with more plot material than blood and monsters everywhere.

How wrong was I, eh? xD

Then time passed by, at some point I read this interview of Isayama-sensei (the author of Shingeki no Kyojin) that said that he got inspired by Berserk’s heroine (Casca) for Mikasa, so I though ‘huh interesting’ because I love Mikasa and looked for a summary again.

And then, a few months later, circumstances made it that I ended up living through a pretty horrible week so I needed a very strong distraction and, thinking back about the summary I had read for Berserk, I thought this could be it. Voilà.

The part with the Eclipse made me put the story on hold for a few hours tbh, but then again, I was such an emotional wreck because of the horrible week I was living through that I still kept reading because I needed to focus on something else.

The longest stop I did while reading the series was after meeting the trolls (vol 23/24). Couldn’t handle that part of the story on the first try (and the funniest thing is that my best friend’s girlfriend had the exact same problem when she too read the series). xD Then I did another stop after the arc in Vritannis (vol30~), mostly because I was busy, so overall it took me like 4 months to read through the whole series the first time.

Here’s my little history with the series Berserk, I hope it answers your question! Have a nice day Anon. :))

I really like the idea that Francis knows about OC and not tell anyone. I don’t know if you visit the fan tags but a lot of people think Francis could scare RC and it’s other reason she’s not here. I hope we know soon.

Hi Anon! Haha yes, I saw some funny posts about real!Ciel basically not really looking forward to seeing his aunt again and, even if it’s just supposed to be humor, personally I think this may not be so far-fetched. 🙂

We already know real!Ciel finds her scary after all…

image

and she did say to our!Ciel…

image

even if it turned out that Seb is the one who took that bear down. xD So she’s definitely not strong enough to beat a demon, but still, when it comes to more thoughtful games, I think her nephews possibly have got nothing on her.

There is this trope in manga, that Sensei even referred to in the past, which is about how children are influenced both by their blood as well as by who raised them: so the reason the twins are twisted boys is because Vincent was also like that + because, in our!Ciel’s case, Seb also took on his education.

It doesn’t mean that they don’t have any good sides (our!Ciel was mentioned to be kinder than most of his family several times), it’s just one way to explain why they can also act terribly and drastically.

As siblings, Vincent and Frances were brought up together (Tanaka, according to Sensei in that same post,

probably

being the one who looked after them after Claudia’s death), so since Vincent had a few twisted and evil parts, it’s easy to bet that Frances might have inherited/developed some too (especially since she possibly used to be her brother’s spare). xD

And marrying Alexis wouldn’t have erased that, at least I don’t think so [x][x]. In fact, Sensei might have even hinted at this before…

image

because Frances thinking she’s getting old in ch14 (chill bae tho’, you’re in your mid 30s) isn’t really about not aiming properly. Rather it’s because the thought of her daughter in danger made her way more emotional/hesitating than her younger self used to be.

My interpretation of this line might be wrong of course, but anyway being a Phantomhive is not about being physically strong like Frances is, that’s just bonus, rather this is about being cunning and ruthless.
And Vincent was, the twins are, Claudia probably was too, additionally even Tanaka and UT are, so Frances must be as well.

No way marrying into the Midford family would have erased the whole education and way of thinking she had half of her life, at least I hope not, because I am a big fan of Sensei’s characterizations and I wouldn’t want to change my mind on this. xD

Sorry for rambling Anon, it’s just to say that Frances’ absence is indeed weird and I would understand real!Ciel (or even UT) being suspicious/worried about Frances being eventually bad news, just like our!Ciel himself.

I hope this makes sense, thanks for passing by and have a nice weekend! ^3^

How do you feel about Hild? She’s my favorite « crew member, » so far. I like what she sort of represents all of Thorfinn’s past sins that he needs to atone for. Also how she relates to VS’s anti-revenge message. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that shortly after meeting Hild Thorfinn had to confront Floki, his own object of revenge.

Hi Anon! Ah yes, I love Hild too. 🙂 I won’t lie, I love all of Thorfinn’s new party (and I’m including Sigurd in it), but Hild tends to be a favorite.

After all, her story is quite unique. First as a genius engineer

image

then as a hunter, crafting her own crossbow because she’s not strong enough to use the ones built for men.

image
image

She’s got a lot of skills and as such, I’m glad that she’s both a reminder of Thorfinn’s past sins as well as his current brake, which is clearly illustrated in the newest chapter for example.

image
image

I’m glad Thorfinn himself is kinda her brake too, because by not killing him and getting revenge, she’s following the teachings of her own father.

The timing of her introduction definitely was narratively meaningful regarding the current arc and Floki. 🙂 I think that, without Hild, he might have snapped regarding Floki and would have come to regret it (both towards himself and Baldr).

So in a way, Hild’s threat about revenge over Thorfinn’s head should he break his vow of non violence is what’s keeping him in check, so that he won’t regret doing something out of anger. In a same way, Thorfinn and the others are giving Hild a broader view of the world: I really like this type of dynamic. :3

Glad you’re enjoying Vinland Saga too, Anon! Have a nice weekend!

This is me adding on to Cookie’s theory.. I know this probably isn’t the same ideas as another. But in the anime. Sebastian’s helping everyone practice for the Hamlet play, everyone including Taker and Lizzie where in the room with them.

Hi Anon! And well, if I have to be honest, the Hamlet ova is the only thing that’s still making me think that UT and Liz could have some interesting interactions because UT might in fact care about her. Not that he makes it that evident.

I discussed this with several of my friends actually, but UT is just… bad at caring in general. After all, he threw Ciel from a staircase during the Campania arc because he wanted to lure Seb in and, mostly, he bet that Seb would still catch him even after being stabbed by his death scythe.

image

And all that happened with me personally believing that UT does care about our!Ciel: it’s just that he’s extreme when it comes to his plans.

So the same could be said of Lizzie and this arc: the lack of interactions could be Sensei not wanting to reveal too much, as explained by @bone-shaped-cookie, and UT could just be focusing about his goal and not caring to do anything about Lizzie’s distress because it’s not a priority of his…

image

…despite holding her in the same regard as the twins.

It’s definitely a strong subject of debate (whether he cares about Lizzie, or the Midfords in general, or not) and there is no way to be sure for now.

Back to the Hamlet ova, the thing is, while it can be seen that Sensei was consulted about some narrative choices in s1 (UT being a shinigami for example, or Ciel going to prison), I’m not sure the same can be said with it.

If anything, maybe the reason UT ended up wanting to wear a dress and chattered about it with Lizzie simply was because they needed someone with long hair to play the Queen and Grell was already Ophelia. That’s why, as much as I’d love to see it as a guarantee that UT and Liz will one day have friendly/funny interactions in the manga, I can’t really count on it.

So I just… don’t know about the Hamlet ova and when it comes to the topic of how involved Sensei was with s1, @frederickabberline is more reliable than me.

Still, thanks for sharing Anon! ^_^ And please have a nice weekend! :3

Undertaker and the Midfords: why no interaction…?

bone-shaped-cookie:

Lizzie’s
return in the latest chapter was one of the rare moments when we could see
Undertaker and the Midfords in the same panel…

image

Come to think of it, it’s
pretty strange that up until then they had never been shown together in the manga (with one exception from chapter 107.5*), let
alone allowed to interact with each other, even though they had enough opportunities to
do so in the past. They could have bumped into each other on the Campania, at
Weston**, or simply in the Phantomhive manor (especially when
Vincent was still alive). And although I realize the Akuma Six chapter was a
spin-off and therefore isn’t canon, the fact that nothing happened there really
surprises me. Knowing Francis’ disgust with slovenly hairstyles and
handsome male faces, UT (who was in the same room as her the whole
time!) was extremely lucky not to get
targeted by the Marchioness…

image

I think
it’s quite significant that even in such irrelevant, non-canonical chapter Yana
kept preventing those characters from interacting with each other. She
seems to be doing it on purpose, and I believe this purpose is to protect us
from getting the information which may be revealed during such confrontation. The way UT and Francis would react to one another (familiarity
versus no recognition) could tell us a lot about the nature of UT’s
relationship with Claudia (Francis’ mother) and the whole
Phantomhive family. Revealing all this too soon would make the mystery gone and spoil the fun, hence the whole
avoiding game; at least that’s the way I see it.

I think that for
the very same reason Francis didn’t appear in the recent chapter, despite her husband and children making a comeback: Yana’s saving her return
for later, as she wants to keep us in suspense for a little longer. Judging
by their reaction, Edward and Alexis aren’t familiar with UT, so they can’t reveal his secrets to us. Lizzie – who’s been directly involved in this Blue Sect mess – must know the
man at least a bit, but I’m not sure whether she’s aware of  UT’s true identity and his connection to her
ancestors. Also, even if Lizzie really knows more, all that matters to her
right now seems to be RC’s return and OC’s lie, so I doubt we will receive this
information from her. Therefore, I’m afraid the mystery surrounding the reaper
won’t be solved until Francis joins the party.

Her prolonged
absence adds even more to the long list of questions that need to be answered:

  • Why is she gone?
  • Where is she? Has she been with Lizzie the whole time?
  • How much does she know
about the Blue Sect and UT’s plans?

What’s her role in all this?

  • Is she aware of OC’s true identity? If so, when did she find out? Did she know that from the start?

Hopefully,
when Francis eventually comes back, we will find out.

——

* – I’m talking about this panel showing both UT and Lizzie (there’s no interaction between them in the whole chapter, though):

image

** – OK,
Weston might not be the best example, as UT was hiding himself well back then and
even Sebastian couldn’t catch him; however, remember how easily Francis found
Seb in that huge crowd of people, despite his disguise and demonic abilities…?

image

This is why I
believe she should have been able to detect UT’s presence, too (if only Yana
allowed her to).
