Ch 137 pg 5 – a cult member shouts, “We’ve finally done it!!”
I’m probably the only one who thinks this way, but this line was kind of a big deal for me. This line confirms that this group has never summoned a demon before.
It’s a big deal for me because for a long time I’ve wondered, “What did the cult think was going to happen?”
I see two possibilities:
1 – They could have thought they were really going to summon a demon. It seems a little ridiculous, because we know from Sebastian’s explanations to our Ciel that the cult’s summoning method was wrong, but they weren’t that far off.
There really is a demon. He really does require a sacrifice to be summoned. They had that much right.
For all we as readers knew, this cult could have summoned demons before. I actually would have found that a bit comforting…
2 – Because the other option is that they didn’t have any real reason to think it would work, which makes their expectations all the creepier.
If this group has never summoned a demon before, but this isn’t their first time trying … what was going to happen after they tried?!
If they tried before and they keep trying, maybe some of them were earnestly hoping it would work this time, but probably most of them didn’t seriously think it was going to happen. Probably most of them were in it for other reasons.
Probably most of them just wanted to see these children horrifically murdered.
In :re 122 Kaneki and Touka both admitted to each other that they were scared of the other dying when they were apart and helpless to do anything about it – someplace they wouldn’t know about.
And they both faced this fear head on with Kaneki being taunted with the cornering and imminent death of his wife.
Along with Touka herself finding her husband’s unconscious body and dealing with the uncertainty of when he would wake up ( I’m sure she kept believing in him and had faith that he would return to her as soon as he could – which he did)
So it’s super precious how we get this panel of Touka embracing him and the reassuring steady thrum of their heartbeats melding together… a sign of proof that they’re both alive and with each other once again.
I still really want to know what Hide said to Goat to convince them to reveal themselves to the CCG.
Because even though Goat had a cult like following of Kaneki (despite the fact he admitted to Amon he didn’t really care about people who weren’t close to him, and the fact he’d failed at his promises, and probably accidentally killed and smooshed some of their loved ones). Every single one of them seemed to decide to give away their identities to their worst enemies.
What did he do to inspire them. Show them he cared enough about Kaneki to let him maul his face? Talk about the shit he went through as a kid… Did he lie or give a half true speech since he’s a little like Kaneki putting Kaneki’s life in front of probably any of theirs?
Maybe I’m wrong but actually…
I think Hide probably just convinced Touka, Nishiki, Tsukiyama, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, I know that the temporary common front was Hide’s idea, obviously, and that he could have easily convinced Touka, Nishiki and Tsukiyama to follow him, but they are probably the ones who ended up motivating the rest of Goat to go meet the CCG, if just by simply being resolute to go save Kaneki no matter what.
Amon probably just summed up the whole thing that way, understandably so, since it was Hide’s idea in the first place, but Hide is a rather casual kind of guy and heartfelt speeches to masses aren’t really his style.
That’s why in my opinion it’s more logical to assume that what happened with Goat is similar to what we saw happen with the CCG…
because Hide didn’t convince most of the CCG, Juuzou did.
Of course, as I said I could be wrong and I’m def not denying it was Hide’s idea, but rather than “One Speech To Bring Them All Together”, I think it was more a chain of reactions (Touka, Tsukiyama and co decided to go, so other ghouls followed, etc).
Hello and nope Anon, I think you’re mixing different things. :3
At the end of ch161, the editor’s line on the last page was indeed “Furuta and Rize” as some sort of preview, which led to all of us thinking ch162 would be about them
but then Sensei trolled his editor and ch162 was about everyone but them and the editor’s line on the last page was “what’s reflected in [Kaneki’s] eyes” as preview for ch163
aaaand the editor’s line at the end of ch163 mentions a new colored page for next week
And that’s it! Sooo nope, even though we saw Furuta on the last page and we will probably see him next week too, this week’s chapter was not hinted to be about Furuta and Rize.
Hi Anon. 🙂 Honestly, I think “having to prove that you’re right” is more a general way of thinking than just about having a fav ship or fav characters.
Some people want to prove their ship is better, their fav character is better, their opinion is better, their meta is better, their writing is better… it goes on 5ever. Fandoms are known to have people who don’t respect any idea or opinion that’s different from their own anyway, it’s just that sometimes it goes too far for me, like yesterday.
You’re absolutely right: characters are developed and evolve in a story with specific settings, same for their dynamics with other characters, that’s why you can even appreciate a villain as a character, despite them doing morally reprehensible things that you don’t support. It’s fiction, it’s about universes with their own rules and that’s why bias is often a problem because it results in negative behaviors between fellow fans.
Positive bias does exist though and that’s how I’d qualify why I have this pattern of appreciating strong female characters. It doesn’t mean I’m going to find excuses if/when they do something they shouldn’t, but just that I look up to how they’re respected in the story by other characters, thanks to being strong and confident.
Anyway, I don’t wanna ramble. :3 Thanks for passing by Anon, please have a lovely day too! ^3^
…is the source of everything instead? And the people who received one of these special nuclei that Furuta also “gave” to Kaneki led to creating those monsters in each ward…
omg but if that’s the case then it means…
…that this scene isn’t about her being reborn but about her being pushed beyond the point of exhaustion because she had to fuel all the (23?) nuclei so that…
karnkjzbkjbazjkb can Rize get a break or be saved sometimes soon?
