About uta and the qs i just want to point out how he basically foreshadowed the qs four monkeys in ch 38. When they sit in his store to take measuremants he grabs uries mouth (speak no evil), he touched mutsuki on the eye area and measured around his head(see no evil) and also around saikos ears(hear no evil). Basically he pointed out their flaws lol ishida is really something.

hamliet:

….

wtf Ishida.

It should also be noted (though this could be a stretch) that Uta’s conveniently asking Shirazu about any girls, and Shizaru the “do no evil” monkey is often seen crossing his arms or covering his genitals.

Evolution and the Stars

The “evolution” of the title is probably a reference to Yomo’s line:

For the whole battle there has been a discrepancy in prospectives: Uta and Itori are trying to recreate the old days they spent with their friend, while Yomo refuses to go back to that dynamic. Uta wants to fight Yomo and tries to force him to take their confrontation seriously, while Itori is their witness and comments their dynamic with jokes and treating them like naughty children. The end of the chapter is Yomo basically telling them to stop with their pranks. As many people have noticed the last scene with Uta falling brings to mind the Tower which has come out multiple times in the narrative.

The Tower represents a sudden loss, the sudden and dramatic change of a situation and has meant on a meta level the abrupt end of many character arcs which couldn’t reach their natural conclusion. So what has been lost in this chapter? What has been destroyed?

The answer lies probably once again in Yomo’s choice to grow up. With this choice Yomo is telling Uta and Itori that they can’t stay trapped in their old days forever and that they all need to evolve. This is probably where the second part of the title comes up: The Star.

The Star is the card which comes after the Tower in the Fool journey and symbolizes a new inspiration people need to work on after their world has been put into disorder by the Tower. @hamliet and one of her anons had a conversation about it and how the chapter being the number 170 seems to support this idea.

https://hamliet.tumblr.com/post/173264161229/hi-hi-so-what-do-you-think-the-chapter-title

The star is a new dream and has the power to inspire people, but at the same time it must be seen as nothing more and the following step consists in trying to adapt the ideal of the Star to the reality of the world. This is what I am expecting from Yomo, Uta and Itori. After all Uta (and probably Itori as well) has seen his ideal, his attempt of connection negated and deemed as impractical. At the same time Yomo is fighting for something new which is probably faceless and difficult to grasp like the friend he is fighting. It’s not by chance we are having these two battles happening at the same time. They are linked to the two complementery themes of understanding others and understanding one-self:

1) Yomo’s challenge consists in being able to see the face of the faceless, so in understanding what seems ununderstandable.

2) Amon’s challenge consists in realizing he is a sinner like the person he hates.

Obviously these two challenges are nothing more than two faces of the same coin: if Yomo gets to finally understand Uta he will understand himself better and if Amon accepts himself he will also accept who Donato is.

All of this to say that I doubt Uta is gonna die. If anything this chapter made even clearer that Yomo and Uta have a problem of communication. After all Yomo is almost devoured by a giant mouth and Uta has become the giant mouth. And who else almost always gets devoured because he can’t communicate?

Yomo, like Urie, has always been terrible at expressing his feelings and is famous for being a quiet person. Uta on the other hand has always been the most talkative of the two. He was the one who started talking to Renji in the 4th ward, he was the one who told Kaneki Yomo’s backstory, he is shown to like chatting with his clients. Despite this, he can’t express himself better than Yomo and this is because he often makes things about others. He talks with others and figures them out and even makes new faces for them. However, he doesn’t explain himself and so reamains faceless because nobody bothers to give him a face he may like.

This is also interesting given @sentrakk‘s theory that we might get more Urie and Mutsuki development quite soon… we shall see.

hey whazzat Cloudia/Tanaka new ship? Where does it come from? I want to know if I want in

dorkshadows:

It’s a crackship that’s quickly growing between me, @midnight-in-town, and @your-lovers-and-drifters (AKA Mod Nina).

It’s based on the idea that they met in a politically unstable Japan when they were in their youth. Maybe Tanaka was an anti-English samurai who was Claudia’s enemy, and one way or another, she managed to win him to her side and bring him home as a member of her staff.

And he’s been so loyal since that he’s stayed until now, mellowing into the perfect, chill steward we know today. He was there for her children and grandchildren, and always quietly loving her from the sidelines. Truly a model gentleman and much worthier of being Claudia’s love interest than Underdicker the zombie-raising heckler.

Plus, Tanaka was probably a swashbuckling bad boy samurai in his youth. He and Claudia would make an amazing power couple!

Do you think Sebastian is an average demon? Or is he special or more powerful?

her-majestys-watchdog:

Considering that he’s the only demon in Kuroshitsuji it’s pretty hard to reach a solid conclusion! However, personally I don’t get the feeling that he’s a spectacular demon as he is now? He’s powerful because he’s a supernatural creature sure, he’s very clever and can easily out-match any human – but he’s also relatively uninformed about a lot has almost lost ever battles (if they’re not against a mortal).

Additionally, I have to presume that the contract limits him in some way because otherwise why isn’t he whipping this out in every fight:

image

Being uninformed about humanity

Sebastian’s an egotist so he likes to think he knows everything about humans, but he’s famously bad at disguising himself as one.

image

Yes Sebastian that’s how normal people sleep.

Since Sebastian isn’t exactly a kidder we’d have to assume he is genuine in his attempts to blend in… or he just doesn’t care. Either way, the fact he hasn’t spent a lot of time with humans definitely makes him a lot less menacing and adds to the suggestion that he isn’t some age-old, super demon who’s been prowling on earth for centuries.

I always saw him as a relatively young demon who’s first “real contract” (one that lasted more than one year) was with OC, because he obviously didn’t know what he was getting into.

image

Sebastian’s (CH62) words before starting the contract versus UT’s which seem wiser (CH61) despite UT presumably being younger than Sebastian; the demon has a lack of experience with humans then?

Additionally, the fact he frequently gets annoyed make him seem almost less threatening than some characters, such as RC and Vincent. He honestly shows MORE emotion than those two have done. Obviously he’s far more powerful, but presentation-wise I find him less scary.

Losing

Undertaker would have killed Sebastian in the Campania arc if he hadn’t decided not to, he then beat Sebastian again when they met in the School Arc with what seemed like little effort. It’s hard to see Sebastian as this high-and-mighty ultra powered demon when a shinigami, who was originally a human, is able to defeat him. Grell might always lose but it’s also worth noting that Sebastian never escapes unscathed from their fights.

HOWEVER as I said earlier, I’m fairly sure that the contract limits him in some way (maybe because Ciel told him to act like a human) so this is probably a big reason why. Though he did seem very earnest when he tried his best to save OC in the Campania arc.

Overall I don’t think Sebastian is even close to invincible but I’m glad this is the case! If he was, it’d make the story pretty boring and there is the genuine sense of not knowing whether Sebastian will survive Kuroshitsuji’s conclusion.

e-l-forever:

Just watched newest hot take/character analysis on Touka from a prominent fandom figure and I’m so-

Why can’t fandom properly grasp Touka’s character?? Its not even hard. She’s not mysterious like most other characters, you don’t have to theorize about placing of her hand or the angle that her head is bent to understand her or take guesses about her origins, you don’t have to write ¾ of her character yourself with headcanons because Ishida didn’t give you anything. No, everything is right there, written clearly in the manga, Ishida has always been candid about his heroine, so why is it so hard to make good analysis of her?

Does her falling in love and being loved in return automatically put up a barrier and make everyone go ‘I can’t read suddenly, I don’t know.gif’ about her other qualities? Because if so then it’s damn sad. Being edgy, unpredictable and no1 fighter are not the necessary qualities of a good character. Just as maturing and prioritizing your family does not make a character useless or ‘domesticated’ (whatever the term was). Love for one’s significant other and child are a natural part of a character, it does not strip away every other quality and storyline, and I wish fandoms wouldn’t punish characters (especially females) for experiencing it.
