When Edward initally describes the gatherings at the music hall, he tells Ciel that the events were ordinary and fun.
What’s unusual about this is that Edward had never been in a concert hall before, and he seem to find peculiar. There was free food and people of all classes gathering in one place.
So why describe the meetings as ‘ordinary?’ He didn’t seem to find it ordinary at all. He didn’t find it harmful as he did take Lizzy back, but he did seem to find it unusal.
Could it be that Edward has fallen under Bravat’s ‘spell’ after all? His eye did look peculiar in that close up right after seeing the P4’s performance.
If we cannot trust Edward’s story to Ciel concerning the music hall, this leaves the rest of his story suspect. One thing that’s always bothered me is Francis. She seems rather unconcerned about Lizzy in Edward’s story.
This isn’t the Francis I know. She’s proven that she would do anything to protect Lizzy, so I have trouble thinking that she would just sit there at the house while Lizzy moves into a music hall. I would think that Francis would march down and drag Lizzy out if she had to.
Perhaps Edward’s story is just that – a story.
I’m revisiting this old post simply because I’m wondering, yet again, if we can trust Edward. Edward is the last person to see Lizzy laying in the bed.
The next time we see this bed, Lizzy is gone and we assume she’s climbed out the window since we see the curtain tied to the head of the bed. Of course, there’s nothing to say that she didn’t have any help or that this couldn’t have all been staged.
If you think about it, Edward isn’t necessarily acting like himself. He leaves an injured Lizzy to demand to know why Sebastian didn’t destroy the music hall, which would have led to the deaths and injuries of others. Even Sebastian seemed surprised by Edward’s actions.
Lizzy was lying in bed, so it’s odd that Edward would leave her side. He claims to be able to see nothing but her, but he presumably left his unconscious sister lying all alone in a room.
Sebastian then has his speech how not even someone with the power of a god can shackle a heart. Initially, I thought this was in reference to Elizabeth and Ciel, but Edward loves Lizzy too. Just like Lizzy would do anything for Ciel, he would do anything for her.
Sebastian also dropped his act slightly in front of Edward as he hinted he had been alive a very long time and had seen religious rebellions.
What if Sebastian was simply giving Edward a subtle clue that he (Sebastian) is not one to mess with because he’s more than he appears?
I like Edward, but I think we might want to keep an eye on him.
