Hi! I know this question is very sudden, but after the new Killing Stalking chapter, I have a feeling that things are starting to become REALLY serious between all three of the « main » characters (since before it was mostly Bum and Sangwoo, and sometimes Seungbae and Sangwoo, when Bum was almost discovered). Do you think the series might turn into a cat and mouse game between Seungbae and Sangwoo, and that it will eventually end when we get to see the outcome?

Hello 🙂 And it sure seems that way, doesn’t it? However, Koogi did say during the hiatus after s1 that she intended on having KS go for 3 or 4 seasons so…

image

If I’m honest and unless Koogi changed her mind, considering that Seungbae’s investigation seems to go quite well in s2 (even though he has only luck and zero proof), I’d rather see a premature end for him instead of for KS.

Seungbae is clearly not on Sangwoo’s level anyway, and I hope I’m not offensing any fans of his by writing this, because you could call this a slight inexperience on Koogi’s part since his involvement really borders on plot convenience. I mean, not only does Seungbae not have any proof that might incriminate Sangwoo for any murder, but also most of his “discoveries” are due to pure luck

only:

  • he had literally zero way to link the CEO girl to Sangwoo in the first place
  • and to be convinced that Bum was a victim and not Sangwoo’s accomplice when Bum was alone the first time they met (back in ch1) is also pretty simplying things

So personally, despite not having any proof against Sangwoo and because Seungbae is now aware of certain things, I think that his luck will run out before Sangwoo’s or KS ends, in case KS is indeed supposed to have one or two more seasons. As with everything I could be wrong, though. 🙂

What I really like about the new development though is that the timing for Seungbae to make his move on Bum is perfect to trigger some doubts in the readers’ mind (#drama).
I mean, considering what happened between Bum and Sangwoo just before and how tired and uneasy they both seemed to be in the new chapter…

image

It would be easy to imagine that Bum might see in Seungbae a potential savior and it doesn’t help that he didn’t tell Sangwoo about him back in the restroom. So kudos to Koogi on this one, because it was all written that way and with this peculiar timing to have the readers consider a potential “betrayal” by Bum.

Personally I’m not buying it though xD because Bum literally has zero reason to betray Sangwoo, even if things went a little… complicated between them lately, if just because Bum killed Jieun, so Sangwoo was right: he and Bum now share the same fate, because Bum was an accomplice to the murder of the other guy and Sangwoo is Bum’s accomplice to Jieun’s murder.

Bum selling Sangwoo to Seungbae would be a strong equivalent to him being convicted for at least two murders and besides…

image

…I think the latest chapters kind of prove that there is really nowhere else for Bum to go and nothing else for him to even consider if Sangwoo doesn’t keep him by his side. Jieun’s murder definitely played a part into him thinking that, but his horrible past with his uncle also definitely factors in this idea. That’s why Bum telling the cops about Sangwoo wouldn’t make a lot of sense in my opinion.

So, is it really going to be a cat & mouse game when Seungbae doesn’t have any proof and Sangwoo’s only alive victim very probably won’t speak against him? I’m not sure. xD

Anyway, sorry for rambling, I hope it answers your question somehow. Have a nice day Anon 🙂

Well, I have just read chapter 17 and 18 of Killing Stalking and I have to agree with you about Jieun. I read some crazy comments about her which depicted her as this atrocious person while she is simply a little superficial and self-centered at most. I mean she wasn’t even the most rude with Bum among Sangwoo’s friends. Most of all I think she was the fruit of the environment she lived in. I think the story depics in a pretty realistic manner a kind of society which doesn’t hesitate in cont.

Hey Anon!

Ah, I definitely agree with you 🙂 the hate was strong and completely disproportionate. In the first place, she wasn’t even that rude indeed, she was more teasing than anything, except okay at the end when she was angry that Sangwoo would leave because of Bum, but really, aside from that… the two other dudes were a bit more direct in my opinion.

She really was just a girl longing after the guy she was in love with for probably a long time, and it just so happened that:

  • he is a psychopath and serial killer
  • some parts of the KS fandom literally have a problem being overprotective with their ships

I reblogged this post once and, to be honest, I didn’t like that post because it told everyone that “shipping Bum and Sangwoo romantically was meh” but rather because…

Overall, the problem lies within fujoshi/yaoi culture, and the fanbase that is willing to fetishize any gay relationship- no matter the circumstances

And isn’t what happened with Jieun literally a consequence of that?

She was an annoying and “problematic” character because “she stood in the way” of Bum/Sangwoo or so these fans thought. For example, the after of ch18 was really rough (since it depicted Jieun and Sangwoo having sex so haters were even more creative than usual) and so many fans rejoiced happily when Sangwoo treated her badly but, honestly, why?

Anyone taking the time to think back about the story ever since ch14 would have realized that she really coudn’t be an obstacle to anything anyway, since Sangwoo was obviously enthralled by Bum ever since he didn’t try to escape again so… I would have understood the frustration if she really had been threatening because Sangwoo actually was interested in her but… that would never happen and you didn’t need to be Koogi to be sure of that.

To be honest, the whole thing with Jieun made me question my beliefs about people because:

  • did people really actually legit think that Jieun could “get in the way” of Sangwoo and Bum’s relationship? Really? After everything up until ch15 or so? Really?
  • Besides Sangwoo mentioned an anniversary and preparing things when they arrived at the festival and we know he was all about testing Bum, so everyone could realize that Jieun’s fate was not bright ever since we realized she had a crush on Sangwoo.
  • In fact the few great meta KS blogs that I visit had all understood that, so it’s not like no one ever brought up the idea that Jieun wouldn’t last long in the story?

But anyway, shit happened and she got hated on in a disproportionate way simply because she was interested in a dude that, in the fans’ mind, was already “reserved” for another dude. Way not to trust your ships people and way to misread Sangwoo’s character.

As I said, I really didn’t read a lot people’s thoughts after ch19 when I stumbled upon so many fans “not being surprised that Bum would become a murder since he always had it in him because of BPD” (which is honestly the dumbest and wrongest thing to say which also damaged my belief in this fandom) but sometimes I wonder how the fandom reacted to Bum being canonly bi…

Also about Bum, you’re also on point, society is discriminating towards people who don’t “fit in”, it’s true everywhere unfortunately and so I personally like the fact that Koogi made her story realistic up to that point.

Anyway, Anon, Sangwoo has issues, Bum has issues, a good part of the fandom has issues, honestly what else is new? lol xD

And yep, as I said before, I definitely agree that Bum’s reaction after he killed Jieun probably wasn’t what Sangwoo had expected which… could be a good or bad thing, but we will need the second part of the story to decide :))

Thanks for passing by Anon, have a nice day! ^_^

Whaaaaat, Anon? xD

Nah, I definitely don’t, but at the same time it’s not like anyone would really need to since… they’re already in a canon relationship in the story by now?

image
image

So, I don’t know, but do you really call that shipping in the first place when the two characters are actually getting involved with each other sexually, if not maybe even romantically (in a very fucked up and twisted way in KS’ case)?

I love thinking about their dynamic in and out of the narrative (because Koogi is incredibly good when it comes to writing their characters realistically) but I’m a passive reader when it comes to their relationship (as a couple I mean): I don’t think it’s very healthy, if just because they both have different issues that the other can’t really solve (and besides Sangwoo currently thinks he’s superior to Bum and, like…no?), but I’m just here to follow Koogi’s story.

At this point, should they kill a thousand more people together or if they end up killing each other, my feelings will stay the same, I’m just here to enjoy actual fucked up characters with issues being extremely well written (in my opinion). 🙂

So if that’s about what I said above about this post, I completely agree with it in its integrality, it’s just that I have a lot of things to say in particular about the part that I quoted above.

I hope it makes sense! Have a nice day Anon 🙂

Hi! Do you have some thoughts about the latest chapter of Killing Stalking if you have read it already?

midnight-in-town:

Hey Anon 🙂 and no problem! I just really didn’t want to spoil you considering what happened in ch19. xD

Soooo, some thoughts, hm…(credit for the scanlation of ch19 goes to @jaynia)

  • About Jieun

I personally liked her even if she was a bit shallow and she’s one of the reasons I don’t plan on ever being a part of the KS fandom, considering that she never was a threat to Sangwoo and Bum’s relationship (I mean, come on, anyone could tell she wouldn’t be) and yet she really was treated like garbage by a large part of the fandom.

Anyway, I liked her 🙂 And I was a bit taken aback by how fast she was taken care of, since it all happened in one chapter when it took basically two chapters for the other dude, however it makes sense when you consider that it wasn’t really her that Bum was killing.

I mean, he did kill her of course, but as ch19 explained, Jieun’s attitude reminded him of that one girl in high school and…

image

…I personally suppose that’s why it went down quite fast with Jieun at the end, even though Koogi took her time telling the whole evening with the school festival. Even at the very end, we can’t even distinguish her face…

image

…so she was kinda robbed of her identity because it wasn’t really her that Bum saw during the whole chapter. I think Sangwoo chose her because she must have reminded him of her mom but she even reminded Bum of a horrible time for him so…

It’s a really sad ending :/

Anyway, RIP Jieun, I think you were a true fighter until the end. :3

  • About Bum

I found that it was really interesting to delve a little into Bum’s past and it was something I had been wishing for a long time, even if I was surprised when it happened the moment it did, haha. Poor Bum though, but I really stopped visiting the tags after this chapter because the amount of stupidity that I found there was pretty astonishing. :/

First of all about Bum being bi, I personally wasn’t surprised, especially since that girl from high school appeared very quickly in an old chapter and it had been made clear back then that she had been a stalking target so… no surprise there for me.

Then about Bum killing Jieun/that girl and saying…

image

…I think it’s important to realize that Bum has one big problem and it isn’t the fact he has BPD (as I could see some people say

wtf people don’t speak about what you don’t know -_-) but rather the fact that…

image

…he has a long history of being severely abused by his uncle and that is hella disturbing and destructive. That’s probably why he was so drawn to that girl in the first place, because “she was the same”…

image

And it probably was reassuring to find someone “like him” initially, which is why it hurt so badly when she simply discarded him away after giving him so much hope that he could be accepted by someone and not be alone anymore.

So Jieun reminded him of something that hurt him a lot…

image

And between that, his distraught state of mind because of what his uncle put him through for a long time + the fact that living with Sangwoo gotta be stressful (even if “they will be together forever” and Sangwoo is way more affectionate than before), I think… Bum snapped and it was initially made easier for him because Sangwoo didn’t really give him a choice for an alternative in the first place:

image

…Which is how we ended up with Jieun being stabbed 12 times.

So Bum has issues -> yes obviously, he wouldn’t have become a stalker and he wouldn’t have killed Jieun

otherwise, but the ending of ch19 has nothing to do with him having BPD. If anything, blame the asshole that is his uncle. No one should have to live through all this. :/

  • Finally, about Sangwoo

Well… he won once more. He got the ending he wanted…

image

…and now he and Bum can be together forever because they’re both linked through murder, but I’m not sure he expected for Bum not to care since Bum looked really terrified about having to kill her in the first place…

image

I think it’s supposed to be a “good” suprise for Sangwoo there though… Or is it?

Sangwoo definitely feels superior to Bum and even this whole evening was his gift to Bum so Bum could become “like him” for real (and so they could be together forever), but that means Sangwoo probably feels like he’s supposed to be Bum’s mentor in all this, so… was Bum really supposed not to care after killing Jieun in Sangwoo’s mind?
Maybe not, maybe Sangwoo thought he’d have to reassure him because Bum would feel horrible, which is why he…

image

…said all this in the first place.

But in the end, Bum says he doesn’t care and Sangwoo is surprised so I think it might comfort Sangwoo in his idea that Bum and he can definitely be together “forever” but… it might also accentuate on an impression of equality

instead of superiority

between Bum and Sangwoo aaaand I’m not sure how Sangwoo would deal with Bum feeling like his equal to be honest… :/

That’s why I’m really wondering where season 2 will pick up! Will there be a time lapse or will we continue with that same evening? I really can’t say but I can’t wait to find out 🙂

I hope that made sense, sorry it was so long! Thanks for passing by Anon and have a nice day! ^_^

image

Hello again 🙂 and you’re welcome! I think Jieun kinda reminded Sangwoo of his mom because of the long hair and of the mole…

image

To be honest though, that’s probably not the only reason Sangwoo chose her, since his point was mostly made in ch18 when he said…

image
image
image
image

So maybe it was more the fact that Jieun was seen as pretty by a lot of people that made Sangwoo choose her in particular. Or maybe it was both, I can’t say. xD

In any case, poor Jieun was unlucky from the moment Sangwoo manipulated her all this time to get her home and she was even less lucky when she ended up reminding Bum of something that hurt him terribly. :/

I hope it answers your question Anon! Have a nice day! ^_^
