“Someone once asked me if I had learned anything from it all. So let me tell you what I learned. I learned… everyone dies alone.
But if you meant something to someone… if you helped someone… or loved someone… If even a single person remembers you… then maybe you never really die.
And maybe this isn’t the end at all.”

Thoughts and trivia on Diederich
Note: This was part of an A/N that was supposed to go with a fic for @meguri-aite that I still haven’t finished yet, mengo mengo my friend, but given how @deecembermonth is hosting a Diederich Appreciation month, I thought I might share this bit already to encourage this noble undertaking. Maybe it’s of some use for fic writers, or just interesting in terms of fun facts about Germany in the 19th century ☆ヽ(・∀・ )ノ
Usually I try to avoid going beyond canon grounds if possible, but given how little information on this series’ older generation we have, I had to leave my comfort zone for once. But it was a fun opportunity to ramble on a bit about Dee and German history in general.
Warning: I am by no means a certified history scholar, so take all of my findings with a grain of salt. But then again, this is Kuroshitsuji and in the manga we’re currently cheerfully steering toward World War I (with zombies!) in the 1890s at rapid pace, so I suppose some artistic liberty is allowed.
Chances are someone more qualified than me has already come up with a much more solid headcanon for the backtground of Vincent’s oldest friend, and if so, I apologise! In case you still want to know what I have to say on him and this story in particular, here be bullet points on the matter:
