This is not a theory. This is more of a what if scenario.
I had a strange thought the other day. There seems to be some evidence that there might have been someone on the inside of the manor who could have helped the attacker(s). If Sebastian the dog was truly muzzled in order to aid any intruders, it seems logical that someone the dog was familiar might have been the one to do so. While there are different theories floating around out there, allow me to propose this scenario.
Real!Ciel might have been manipulated/used by the attackers.
His intentions could have been entirely innocent and even good. He was told it’s his duty to watch over his little brother, and he took the job seriously. He wanted to be a good brother. If someone had approached him and claimed they had something or could do something that would protect his twin or was good for him in some way, real!Ciel might have thought it was a smart thing to do. He might have given information and muzzled Sebastian. In fact, he could have even quietly slipped out of the room while our!Ciel was asleep to open a door or permit entrance. If that happened, he would have returned to the room before he knew that anything was wrong.
Of course, if that happened, he was betrayed. He wouldn’t have meant for anyone to be hurt/killed. Plus he was kidnapped as well. He would quickly realize he had been used. All he could do at that point was to protect his brother as much as he could while they were both being held captive.
That’s the scenario in a nutshell. Real!Ciel did help the attacker(s), but he was being used. His intentions had been good, but his desire to protect his brother was turned against him.
Hmmm… okay, I’ll start with the thing I’m most certain about!
After all, I think only him could put that muzzle on Sebastian…
Yes, yes and yes!! I, too, think it was RC who muzzled Sebastian and a lot of Japanese fans see it the same way. It’s very unlikely that the attackers did it because simply – why go out of their way to muzzle the dog and lock him up in a room when they kill him anyway? Also, Sebastian is supposed to be a watchdog, so he certainly wouldn’t let strangers put a muzzle on him so easily. Also, as I mentioned in this post, a lot of people in the JP fandom doubted that RC was sleeping in ch133, so at least timeline-wise it wouldn’t be impossible for RC to muzzle Sebastian while OC was taking a nap – i.e. before the whole massacre started.
As to why RC would do it, I still suspect that he was somehow involved in the attack or at least knew something would occur. In this chapter as well as in the last chapter, OC was constantly shown with “sweat drops”, indicating that he was scared and nervous, whereas RC didn’t seem as nervous as OC.
He looks concerned, but I rather got the impression that his concerns were more like “This isn’t how we had planned it. Did something go wrong?” rather than “What the hell is happening????”. What I mean is that he doesn’t look completely clueless like OC does.
Especially the panel above makes me believe that he did have a clue what was happening outside the room.
Just for the record, I don’t think he killed his parents, his dog and all the servants (like I mentioned in another ask, I think the culprits were supernatural beings), but I do low-key believe he had something to do with the attack and thus was the one who 1) muzzled Sebastian and 2) took off the ring from Vincent’s finger.
And now to the other question which I’m honestly not sure about…
Do you think the way Yana drew Tanaka being stabbed in chapter 134 and Agni being stabbed in chapter 127 could be a hint that the same person killed both?
Mmmm, yes/no! xD I think it’s possible and actually very likely that the ‘knife guy’ (probably Lord Polaris) who killed Agni was one of the culprits who murdered the people in the Phantomhive manor on that day. The way he killed the servants so brutally and mercilessly, with all the bloodstains everywhere, reminds me of the way Agni was killed. Also, if they were indeed the same person, that would perfectly connect Blavat’s Blue Sect with the main plot, so I think it’d make sense in terms of ‘plot advancement’, too.
However, I’m not really sure if he was also the one who stabbed Tanaka 😦 If they were the same person, why did the ‘knife guy’ not manage to kill off Tanaka? Why didn’t he stab him multiple times in the back just like he did to Agni? Why did he let Tanaka survive?
And another reason why I have doubts is Tanaka’s behaviour.
He was clearly facing the attacker, yet he said to OC in ch62 that he didn’t see anyone. Why would he need to lie? Why can’t he just tell OC what the ‘knife guy’ looked like?
Also, considering Tanaka’s words in this month’s chapter
“Do not come here! Lord Ciel (is)… this is too awful *for you*!”
I still suspect that the attacker Tanaka was facing was someone he and OC knew well and that Tanaka didn’t want OC to know the truth (i.e. the identity of the attacker) since it’d be too cruel for OC in particular. I’m not necessarily saying it was RC who stabbed Tanaka (I have doubts), but I think it’s at least someone whom we readers already know and that’s why I rather doubt it was the ‘knife guy’ (uness the ‘knife guy’ is someone we know – but then, if it was John Brown, for example, I wonder why 1. Brown didn’t manage to kill him off? and 2. why Tanaka said “this is too awful for you”? D:).
Mmm, that scene was so weird! Actually, the first few pages of ch133 where RC was crying and throwing tantrum because he didn’t want to be separated from OC made me almost believe that he might be a normal child (just a little bit clingy), but then there was this scene
which reinforced my suspicion that there is something wrong with RC Yana even used a completely different font for this line to emphasise the sudden change in his tone. I honestly have no clue what’s going on with him and what exactly he meant by that, but at this point I’d even believe that he might have had some kind of split personality lol (it would be funny if after all the 2C discussions in the past 5 years it turned out that RC was the one who suffered from DID and not OC xD)
maybe he planned to kill their parents so that way Smile becomes emotionally atteched to the “last piece of family”, or in debt
That would be one hell of a super-yandere plot twist! RC definitely seems to have some sort of obsession with OC, but tbh I still can’t figure out whether it’s just brotherly love (just like Edward’s brotherly love for Lizzy) or something more dangerous But yeah, we’ll see in the next chapter, i.e. in 1 week, whether he had a hand in the attack or not!! 😀
And do you know what the JP fandom said about this chap?
Mmm, afaik two things were pointed out by several people:
– RC’s line “It seems I have no choice but to become Earl Phantomhive…” Was he really convinced by what Rachel told him? Can we really trust his “Fine!” and his bright smile? Could it be that he was just pretending to be convinced but was actually not happy at all about becoming Earl Phantomhive and being separated from OC?
– RC’s behaviour in the last 3 pages Was RC really sleeping until 6? Could it be he was awake while OC was sleeping? If so, where was he and what did he do? What’s with RC’s look on the last page? Does he know what is happening?
