Hi Anon! Hmm, well, first of all, in general, I like how the Phantom Five are way less cliché than the Starlight Four.
I mean no offense to any fan of them, but the Starlight Four are a literal example of “One Character = One Trope” aaaand I don’t really like that:
they have the color of their dormitory in their name: Redmond, Bluer, Greenhill, Violet
they’re stereotypical examples of how the different Weston dormitories are categorized
and they’re extremely naive and simple-minded, something the current arc emphasizes even more than the Weston arc.
To be fair, I think Yana wrote them like that on purpose: initially it was to show just how simple-minded they were (i.e not as in stupid, but rather as showing very little judgement), since they were so taken by the rules and traditions at Weston that they went as far as to kill to preserve their little world.
The second point is that Yana probably wrote them like that also in order to create a huge contrast with their fags. In comparison, the P5 are not any of these things (well, Clayton still is a little stereotypical tho’) and were meant to have more impact narratively speaking, if just with the presence of Soma and Ed who are two important characters.
An example will probably explain better, so look at their respective stage performances:
the S4 are literally themselves on stage. Meanwhile the P5…
are playing a role, Ches aside, but Ches is so very singular in the first place that it’s not even out of place. For me, that’s a metaphor that speaks volumes about their depth as characters and the S4 just can’t compare.
Anyway, in general that’s why P5 >>>>> S4 for me. More specifically though:
Ed & Soma: I don’t think you want me to ramble about them xD As I said they’re two important characters so they’re completely endearing on many aspects outside of their choice to help Ciel with the P5 in this arc.
Cheslock: I love his choice to constantly prove his singularity even if it makes him stand out from the pack (to the point even Seb commented on how unusual and brave it was), as well as the fact that he’s a very gifted musician. 🙂
Harcourt: well, to be honest, the reason I like him is because I really liked his character during the Weston arc. I love how he’s so grateful to Seb too. xD
Clayton: I’m not his biggest fan but it’s funny how he was the one who had the hardest time keeping to his role amongst the P5. However he’s also the one who had more selfless reasons for joining (he wanted to help the S4) and it’s why I still like him more than any of the S4.
Sorry for rambling, I hope it answers your question! Have a nice day. ^_^
Hi! Yeah I totally do, I more or less explained why here. :))
I think most of all, I like how the contrast between them isn’t reductive. I mean, on the one hand you’ve got Ed, who’s extremely righteous because of how he was raised but who’s also multitalented. And on the other you’ve got Ches, whom we know is very gifted for music and very determined to live by his own rules and to prove his singularity, even if that makes him stand out from the rest.
So initially, it wouldn’t seem like those boys could get along. And yet…
we see them interacting more with each other than with the other prefects or any students of their respective dormitory. 🙂 That’s the reason I ship them in the first place: I don’t think they give off particularly romantic vibes in canon, but the chemistry they developed has the potential to go even further and that’s great in my opinion.
Hmm, I don’t know if I have many headcanons to share though, except maybe that Ches started to see Ed slightly differently from the moment he managed to pull a convincing bad boy act. I think he’s not the only one though, since Ed’s change of attitude is the most extreme transformation out of the whole P5 (Clayton had a change of looks, not particularly of attitude) and anyway, it just can’t be helped, Ed’s game using his Phantomhive genes was too strong to be resisted. xDD
Their chemistry is also a reason I liked the part with the Phantom Five a lot during the current arc, which is what I was talking about with Anon above.
I hope it answers your question :)) Have a nice day Anon!
Hey Anon! Ah, just so you know, I saw you already asked @thedarkestcrow yesterday [x] so, out of respect for both the time she spends on answering Anons and mine, next time please make sure to at least word your question a bit differently, so we don’t get the feeling we’re being… used as generators for suitable answers. Thanks in advance for understanding!
Now, when it comes to this kind of headcanons, I’m a bit… peculiar, so I’m not sure you’re going to like my answer, especially since I’m also taking the context in consideration and during the Victorian era being openly homosexual wasn’t exactly common or seen as proper.
Anyway, for the S4:
Redmond, he’s Druitt’s nephew -> bi (since Druitt canonly comments on boys and girls alike). Please don’t think that I believe sexual orientation is linked to genetics, it’s just that Druitt said he taught Redmond a lot of things about ladies, so I don’t see why the same wouldn’t go for cute boys and Redmond is rather flirty with everyone.
Greenhill,aka the Most Flustered Guy™
of Green House’s history (thanks Lau and his girls) -> 100% heterosexual when he’s not focusing on sports or on the blue sect.
Violet -> Asexual but possibly demi-romantic towards his 3 friends. ….Weirdly enough though, I feel that if Violet were to fall in love with anyone, it would be with someone like Ciel. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Maybe it’s because I find that all the trust he put in Ciel recently was totally astonishing (since he trusted Ciel over his friends, because he knew Ciel would be able to solve this case while he didn’t think his friends could emotionally overcome the shocking truth).
Bluer -> Awkward and clumsy with girls but this is the Victorian era so I’d say he’d be heterosexual (”by default”), even if he might probably feel attraction for a guy like Redmond (though he’d probably never admit it to himself).
As for the P5:
Soma -> Hmmm, I always saw him as liking girls 99,9%
of the time
(Mina, or Lizzie if Ciel was dead) and that didn’t change with the current arc :3
Edward -> LizzieJust kidding xD….. Nah he’s bi, though obviously in deny since it’s the Victorian Era and he #GottaBeProper (which is funny since I picture his family to be quite open-minded on the subject considering they’re not stereotypical characters, time era-wise). Also when I say bisexual, I mean Cheslock for the guys he could be attracted to (see below).
Cheslock -> You have no idea how much love and respect I have for this dude since he voluntarily and openly shows his refusal to go by the rules, which is a real
凸(`0´)凸 to the current time era (+ he’s a gifted musician, thus he’s an automatically fav character). Anyway, I headcanon him as demi-romantic, and if I had to choose a sexual orientation I’d say bisexual (bordering on demi-sexual though), if just because Cheslock/Edward is a ship my heart won’t move on from (and I just don’t headcanon him as liking guys only). Like, one day I might as well make a post with all my feelings about why their dynamic is great and I really hoped Yana would develop both their characters more, because they have a lot of potential, both on their own and through their dynamic.
Joanne -> /! Sebastian-sexual /! lmao just kidding! However, seeing his canon infatuation for Seb, I’d say he has the potential to be bisexual.
Clayton -> omg, he’s such a naive and innocent boy, I feel that romance and sexuality are things he never even thought about until becoming a part of the P5 (and seeing their fans’ reactions). I’d say heterosexual though, especially considering the time era and him not… ever considering other options (’cause that’s currently not a priority).
So Anon, as I said, I’m sorry if my answer isn’t really what you expected I tend to favor friendship more than romance in “groups that stick together” like these and Cheslock/Edward is really the only ship I have amongst all of them because I really like their dynamic. :3
Bonus, ex-alive!fag Maurice Cole
…and ex-dead!fag Derrick Arden
(I hope you get the joke, if not reread ch81 and 82 xD)
Hey Anon! Ah, it is something I talked about with @erebus-cheslock a few days ago and I definitely think it’s a possibility, but that it depends on:
who organized the attack (Bravat, Lord Sirius, the mastermind….)
and why (why now, was Soma directly targeted and, if so, why….)
For example, if we say that Sirius is indeed the twin and that he wants revenge against our!Ciel, I could see him possibly targeting other people besides Soma, like the Phantom Five indeed.
Going with this possibility, if their next target is Weston, there might be more more deaths (even if just for unnamed characters) because those students (Ed aside) aren’t fighters and even if they were… well, Agni, who was strong, lost against the guy with the knives…
so it would be a very worrying situation.
That being said, if we say that the twin wants revenge and thus is killing people in order to hurt our!Ciel, it would be stupid of him to target Edward, seeing as he’s Lizzie’s brother and that the twin’s keeping Lizzie close to him. I mean, not that I think Lizzie will forgive him and still side with him after learning about Agni’s murder, but still, Edward is also the twin’s cousin, so targeting him like the rest of the P5 just to hurt our!Ciel would really confirm the twin’s madness and sign for Ciel & Ed & Lizzie all siding against him.
So yep, Weston being the next target is a possibility, and one I actually like since that would mean we’d get to see Ed, Clayton, Cheslock and Harcourt again 🙂
I hope it answers your question! Have a nice weekend 🙂
