It’s time once again to over analyze the omake. Jokes? What are those.
All of the omake cited in this meta are translated by @kenkamishiro and can be found on this tag [x].
Mutsuki’s Power Level
The first omake to have anything potentially of substance is the confrontation between Shinsanpei and Urie. A confrontation which also results in a return of Urie 400%, but we’ll get to that in a moment. The new details are the tidbits that are shown in Shinsanpei and Urie’s brief exchange of words.
I had a hard time trying to decide how to write the vocab and sentence sections, whether I should just transliterate the terms in 24th ward Japanese or a localized English version. In the end I decided to transliterate the vocab words, and for the sentence section include both the transliterated version and the localized version.
I also revised the scene with Ayato talking with the 24th ward kids based on what we learned in this omake. You can read the two pages here.
In addition, I made some Minor Text Fixes™ to the other omakes, and got them re-typeset (I love you Cimi), which I highly recommend reading through. You can read the updated version here.
Part 6 of the TG:re volume 12 omake (thank you Cimi for typesetting this properly). That’s some morbid thoughts there, Yoriko…
There’s 2 more pages left which are about Ayato’s commentary on his trek into the 24th ward. I might also end up re-translating the 24th kids’ page from the earlier chapter now that there’s a translation guide for them.
Part 4 of the TG:re volume 12 omake. Half of the lines Saiko wrote was in English via katakana, and all these new terms were a pain in the ass to translate (I dunno what wax emperor Jumanji is either…
i really love the concept of kaneki asking about ghoul traditions & learning more about them, it really is kind of like he’s marrying into another culture ///////
that omake with him & amon is especially funny/good to me too bc A) kaneki immediately takes ghoul bitemark tradition very seriously, and B) verifies that amon is “really” a ghoul, and thus think that the tradition like “holds” between them in a way it wouldn’t if he were human 😂 (i mean i guess that’s also another point added to kaneki accepting he’s a ghoul?)
it’s also kind of an interesting time in the story to talk more about the ways that ghouls & humans differ, esp. as “The Underground Level” opens up and might expose more like….ghoul culture that might differ AGAIN from what city ghouls know.
with nishiki knowing about like facial markings and shuu knowing about traditional weddings and touka knowing about bitemarks, it makes you wonder what other traditions ghouls understand implicitly or carry around that we’ve never had reason to know about. the idea that cultural knowledge like that might be dispersed amongst individuals via violent histories, resonates with me a lot as someone from a cultural background marked by colonization & diaspora 😭✨
Part 2 of the TG:re volume 12 omakes. I’d post more images at a time, but I have to go to work soon, so might as well post what I’ve managed to finish so far.
