Psycho-Pass Asylum 2: About Girl

nami-di-wave:

Really short summary
because I promised but don’t have enough time.

This novel took place at
the end of 2113 year, between first and second seasons of the anime. First division
investigated children’s murder. Yayoi went undercover and a lot of stuff happened.
Main villain turned out to be Takizaki Rina. And eventually Yayoi killed her.

LISTEN though, Mado Kasuka and Kureo’s story. She was an Academy professor obviously older than him, whom he wooed successfully at all of 20 years old, and who gave absolutely no fucks, apparently, about the fact that their relationship was the talk of the Academy.

I remember laughing at her (as quoted by Akira), “I mean I like you, but changing my surname would be a pain in the ass.”

also i just went to look at ms translation of that scene and they completely butchered it which is why i’m writing this i am offended

I might be wrong but kasuka’s father was a Academy professor not kasuka herself.

this is the butchering i was referring to. I know you didn’t ask, but I thought I’d explain for anyone else who might be interested. It’s a mistranslation of the word 「婿養子」 Literally, this word means “a man who became a son of the family by law” (usually by legal adoption). It’s often translated as “son-in-law” which is not entirely correct. The MS translator probably translated the whole sentence as “He became a son-in-law of his Academy professor”. The literal/proper translation would be “He was [lawfully] accepted into his Academy professor’s family”. From the context in that scene it’s clear Matsuri was talking about Kasuka, not her parents.

That word means Mado was likely adopted and legally became a child of his wife’s parents. Yep, I know this is weird.

By the way, this is also how same-sex couples can “officially” get married – one of their parents would adopt the other, making them legally a family.

I’m so glad to see you post this because I was considering this exact same thing last night! If you don’t mind, I’m going to toss a little more circumstantial evidence in your ring.

As our resident K overanalyst, there’s a curious bit of foreshadowing that I’ve always wondered about. I know, I know, but bear with me for a minute.

In Luna’s route, a 5 BP Phi is stuck in a difficult position. She’s paired with a 6 BP Dio and facing off against a 6 BP K. If she betrays and K allies, Dio gets 6 BP and books it. But if she allies and K betrays, he’ll obviously bail, too. She could betray, but she’d need to ensure K also betrayed – otherwise, Dio would screw them both over.

Instead of that, she elects to put her faith in K. She locks Dio out of her AB room and – to my considerable surprise – K actually allies with her. Sigma and Phi were as confused as I was, and decided to ask about it. His answer was… interesting.

Incidentally, this was never elaborated on.

Could these two somehow be family?
