So with the comparisons of Haise to snakes recently, i realized something looking back that you may or may not have heard of? In chapter 136, page 12, where Kaneki’s losing it, Rize is depicted with a snake tongue and makes a « slither » sound effect? What do you think this means? Perhaps it’s drawing parallels between the hallucination of Rize and Chibineki? Or that Haise’s controlling his insanity? Or he’s « troubling » Kaneki? Or he’s the « weed » in the caterpillar fungus analogy? mah hart ;-;

kakujaeto:

Wow, I didn’t remember that and I just looked up the page and:

The snake comparison with Rize and the centipede crawling out of Yamori’s eye is a really interesting thing to point out, especially since we know Centipede!Kaneki regularly appears to Haise with the snake skin pattern.

This is really interesting to me, because in that moment in the sewers, Kaneki was panicking because he felt like he was being consumed. He was losing control of his body. Rize and Yamori were personifications of his fears. They were his ghoul side represented in a physical form.

And Sasaki is afraid of losing control to Kaneki. He’s afraid of losing himself and giving up his body and being consumed by Kaneki, and he sees Kaneki as a representation of his monstrous ghoul side.

They are afraid of the exact same thing.

And this has been a consistent thing with Kaneki (and now Sasaki). Kaneki had trouble controlling his ghoul side long, long before he encountered Yamori. After his fight with Amon, he has a break down that reminds me a lot of him as Centipede:

Representing those fears with a snake and a centipede during Kaneki’s worst moments, and then portraying Sasaki’s visualizations of Kaneki with the snake skin pattern just highlights the similarities.

And when we got the snake comparison with Haise recently, he looked to me like a blending of Kaneki and Sasaki, especially because of that streak of white hair and the messy formation of his kagune (and that little branching piece that reminds me of Centipede’s kakuja in the worst way).

My first reaction is to be worried. But after thinking about it a bit more, I’m also a little hopeful. Maybe this is too optimistic and unrealistic of me, but what if, because of the clear blending of Sasaki and Kaneki in that panel before the snake, this is a suggestion that Sasaki is beginning to control that fear? That he’s able to use his ghoul strength without letting it consume him?

But maybe that’s just because I want Sasaki to be able to reconcile both parts of himself, and recognize that Kaneki isn’t the monster Haise thinks he was. And to then be able to truly blend both ghoul and human sides of himself. Because that’s the only way he can do anything to change the world.

Kuromysteries

thedarkestcrow:

into–the–abyss and I decided to create a post series of the different theories, mysteries and unanswered questions in Kuroshitsuji. This is a list of what we’ve collected so far. It will serve as a table of contents and since this is a work in progress it will be updated from time to time. We’ll work out some of the theories and questions and add a link to this list.

You can find all the posts related to this under the tag “kuromysteries”.

Musings about Queen Victoria

wondrouswatchdog:

Specifically Kuroshitsuji’s Queen Victoria, because I don’t think the actual one wanted to enlist zombies in war…though that would be cool for the history textbooks.

This is kind of a mish mash of thoughts and it jumps around, but I just want to put it out there because apparently I have no life.

We recently learned that Kuroshitsuji most definitely seems to be heading in the direction of World War, and from fictional Queen Victoria’s own desire. The irony in this, however, is that during the reign of actual Queen Victoria, the time period was considered to be Pax Britannica (Latin for “British Peace”, because Latin makes things official). Of course, war still existed-various incidents due to rising imperialism (take the Opium Wars for instance, I bet Lau could enlighten us all on that), the Crimean War, and Boer Wars…but compared to other time periods it’s supposedly rather peaceful. After all, Victoria was considered the “Grandmother of Europe” being that her children had married monarchs from various European countries.

Particularly in Yana’s world, tensions between Germany and the UK are incredibly high. Fun facts about real Victoria, her mom was German. Okay, they didn’t have the greatest relationship out there, true. But her governess, Louise Lehzen, whom she was very close to, was also German. Prince Albert, her beloved husband was of German origin as well (and he hated Lehzen for being too close to Victoria-from what I can tell, he seemed somewhat possessive-but she adored him still).

Also, maybe Victoria was the grandma of the continent, but she hated kids. The entire act of childbirth seemed animal-like to her. She wasa mother of nine who hated pregnancy and childbirth, detested babies, and was uncomfortable in the presence of children.” No wonder she treats Ciel like such an adult, sending him on all these dangerous missions when he’s just a child: she could be suspicious of Sebastian, sure, but frankly she wasn’t the type to baby someone. So Ciel’s old enough to talk and walk on his own? Great, send him out to find Jack the Ripper. Cool, Vicky, cool.

However, just because she wasn’t a doting-motherly type, this doesn’t mean she wasn’t vigilant. In fact, “her need to control her children was almost pathological. She set up a network of spies and informers who reported back to her on her children’s doings. Just as she was spying on them, she could even be spying on Ciel and the past Watchdogs. Maybe that’s why Claudia and Vincent kicked the bucket so young-she knew that they had done something not-so-desirable in her eyes because this Victoria was always watching.

Here’s another fun fact, and I don’t know how it could connect but it’s interesting: he was the first British monarch to visit France since literally the 1400′s. Apparently she liked it a lot too. Why does this matter? Again, there’s another reason for her not to go into war, but we’ve already seen France mentioned too…Undertaker’s apparently there right now. France may get its chance to shine in this story.

So why would Kuro’s Victoria want to wage war with the entire world- not just obviously economically beneficial countries such as China and India, as Britain did in real life?

Well, we made it really psychological, maybe taking back Germany would be like taking back Albert. Maybe by wanting these bizarre dolls, it sounds like the ultimate way to bring her deceased husband back? After he died, actual Victora stayed in mourning for the rest of her days, and if she was really such a controlling mother on her own kids, maybe in Kuro’s case, she’d become such a control freak that she’d literally want to watch the world burn so she could take it over and control everything?

I don’t know, but Kuro’s Victoria is just very fishy…
