Can we talk about Lucifer’s wish for a durable vessel? This is from ch102:

I find it’s quite interesting that Lucifer is presented as having a lot of faith about “being rewarded for his suffering” and that one day some sort cosmic justice will give him what he deserves (which is a new functional vessel) when, back then, he was thought to be the highest and most powerful demon to the two worlds of Assiah and Gehenna.
Then Satan finally possessed a vessel and developed an ego but no one (Mephy aside because he exists everywhen) knew who he was at first, yet look at how Mephisto and Amaimon explain Gehenna’s hierarchy now, 20 years later:
So you know, it’s as if… before Satan even technically gained an ego and started to really exist as who he is, Lucifer already believed that there was a greater being (a God) above all of them and he kinda gained the proof of that (the reward to his faith) through Satan’s possession of Goro, 20 years ago.
That eventually led to the creation of the Illuminati, once Section 13 was destroyed (most likely during the Blue Night), and the pursuit of the goals he already was mentioning to Shemihaza which are…
…starting with making sure both he and Satan get a vessel because “it’s fair and there shouldn’t be an Assiah/Gehenna limit”.
So Lucifer, as Gehenna #2 (just like most of the Baals actually), is very faithful to that God that he already believed in before Satan was even conscious of existing & being significant to others + he believes he understands others and that bringing peace to everyone in the form of equality is The Answer.
Facing him in comparison tho’, you’ve got Mephisto, who’s probably jaded about Satan being his Father/God/blahblah, because he’s seen this shit in idk how many timelines and his only priority is for Assiah not to disappear, because humans are interesting and he doesn’t see the point of not being able to enjoy what Assiah and humans can bring to him.
In other words, he’s an absolutely selfish jerk who can casually say that “yes you all are my pawns but you are only worms to me so it’s only fitting I treat you as such”, as well as pretend wanting to give Rin to Satan while also claiming to want to use Rin in order to take down Lucifer. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
And Mephy + other powerful demons created (and are still leading) the True Cross Order, an organization that’s supposed to be about Protecting Humans While Fighting Against Demons but that’s also actually about giving strong vessels to more powerful demons.

because the contrast between Lucifer & Samael, Illuminati &True Cross Order is huge on every aspect, so honestly I love what Sensei is doing with it, because it’s a total mindfuck (I get why Shima has so much fun spying for both sides, with both sides fully aware + why Yukio said “fuck all of them” xDDD).

Right from the start, we’ve been told that Rin was raised as a weapon against Satan. Now, when we think “weapon” we think “violence”. Epic battle imminent, right? The forces of evil versus the forces of good. Classic. But today I was thinking about how the second season anime has been revealing certain plot elements of the manga. And maybe Rin isn’t intended to be the general/ ace-up-the-sleeve secret massive railgun of a giant war at all. This is gonna be long, but please ear me out.
So: second season of the anime. Kinda weird, kinda rushed, as so often when the people who produce the anime have to come up with an original ending for the show, because they caught up to the manga and are now out-running it. But, we can be certain Kato told them at least some things of what she planned to do. For instance: -A giant evil organisation working against the True Cross Order, -Yukio going darkside, -Mephisto’s abandoned laboratory for creating artificial life, -both the twin’s powers fully awakening. Things didn’t happen exactly like they do in the manga, but the core is definitely there. Now, consider: Anime!Yuri.
Anime!Yuri is a massive hippie who loves demons, and upon meeting Satan, feels sorry for him and lets him use her body as a vessel willingly. But what is particularly interesting, is that Yuri isn’t overshadowed by him. Rather, they remain two separate personalities, and can talk. Doesn’t that sound familiar?
As a result of his time with Anime!Yuri, Satan becomes less destructive. He still wields massive power and is easily agitated, but Yuri encourages him to use his powers to create a better world for humans & demons alike. In fact, she doesn’t sound entirely unlike some other character:

Mephisto.
Along with Azazel and the Emperors, Mephisto is on “team humans”. We still don’t know why exactly Mephisto thinks humans “show merit” or why he enjoys Assiah so much (though I’ve previously theorized that because his “kin” possesses man-made objects, he wouldn’t have much to rule over without them). All we know is that “team humans” has been giving human the means to fight demons.
It is suggested that humans might have been the ones who created demons in the first place: After all, they are concepts. *Hilarious theories of how demons created religion how’s that for a paradox -dudes imagine the look on Angel’s face if that were true* …But nothing suggests that they need humans once their ego has sprouted. However, it is very clear that human belief still influences demons. With enough conviction, they can be bound as familiars:

In the AnE verse, it is made very clear that the power of belief is everything. And nobody seems more aware of this than Mephisto. And it is quite possible that this is simply because he has been staying in Assiah longer than any other demon and observed first-hand how human choices shape the future. It has been very strongly hinted in chapter 99 that he has been
rewinding & rewriting timelines in order to get the one he wants.
For some reason, thus far every one involving telling Yukio about the whole how
& why of the twins birth and continued existence has apparently
backfired, so now he’s betting it all on Rin:
And what’s more, he has been staying in the same body for longer than any other demon. He seems very attached to it. According to chapter 86, the only one of the demon kings who can stay in
the same body for an extended period because of his powers of Time. He
can most likely put his body in some sort of stasis to keep it from
deteriorating. BUT, he is not invincible. It is suggested in chapter 94
that he will, at some point, lose or let go of his body.
Yet,
as pointed out by Lewin in chapter 84, he has a research facility with immortality elixir & cloned replicas in his basement. So why not simply replace/ enhance the one he’s using now? Because the
clones aren’t as good as the original? Unlikely, since they managed to artificially
create a body so strong it could hold Satan himself, however briefly.
Maybe all good ones were destroyed on Blue Night, and now that the
facility is in ruin and only has one mad scientist left, new one clones or elixir can’t
be made that simply? Is THAT why he’s after Lucifer, because of his
resources?
Frankly, I can’t
imagine a genius like Mephisto not having some sort of back-up plan.
especially if he can do things like copy-paste entire facilities into a
different dimension and start things over in a different timeline it seems strange he hasn’t stored away some extra bodies. Rather, it seems like he has given up the whole
artificial life & elixir research entirely (and there’s the
anime-canon again!). For whatever reason, it wasn’t feasible. Just like telling Yukio what he wanted to know didn’t work out.
To summarize: By now there probably isn’t a single entity who knows more about both human spirit and the relation between a demon and his host body than Mephisto.
Now think back to Anime!Yuri and Manga!Rin & Yukio. And consider this quote, the super-vague wtf-is-he-talking-about one.
I think Rin might actually not have to fight with his body at all. As we know, the control Rin has over his flames has everything to do with the control he has over his own mind and emotions. Perhaps the reason Mephisto abandoned the idea of creating artificial hosts, is because he found the perfect ones already: He INTENDS to give the twins to both Lucifer & Satan respectively- once they are ready and he can be sure that neither will budge to the force that tries to overtake them. Spirits not in control of, but imprisoned in a human body.
After all- he already came pretty close to creating something like that before…
And like everyone else, focused on the heart wrenching, “It doesn’t matter. I have no ties to this place.” But the important panel is the first one.
“You don’t get it! I’ll have Mephisto tell you the truth!”
This is significant for two reasons:
1) Rin believes that Yukio didn’t shot Mephisto. We know he didn’t because the angles were all wrong. Yukio couldn’t have shot Mephisto from where he was standing on stage, but Rin doesn’t know that. He just saw Yukio getting tackled on TV. He doesn’t know anything else. Why else would he take him to Mephisto unless he honestly believes he didn’t shoot him.
2) Mephisto is setting Yukio up! He wanted Yukio to join the Illuminati! It’s part of some kind of Batman Gambit to fuck with Lucifer (and/or Satan, who may or may not be on the same side as Lucifer. Look it’s complicated, but we need to focus!)
I have no idea if some of my followers even read/follow Ao no Exorcist but… I’m just completely angsting about the new chapter since I’m not sure of what’s going on (which is a good thing in a way) so I need to write down my thoughts.
I don’t really get what we’re supposed to understand since the Blue night started at the Asylum with Yuri; so, was the twins’ mom a part of the research or of the experiments for the elixir or something like that?
Also when Lightning said last month…
Does this mean…
…That Shiro and Arthur were supposedly clones of the demon kings? I know this is just in relation to Section 13 and not the whole asylum, but still, considering this panel…
I find the kid on the far left to look a lot like Arthur (especially since there was an Arthur-like name in the files Lightning was looking at…), and I think either the kid on the right or the one down in the middle could be Shiemi’s mom (or dad since the names on the files are all masculine)?
I mean, Shiemi’s mom looked like she had something important to tell Shiemi in the last chapter so I wouldn’t be surprised if this had a link with what Bon and Lightning just discovered.
Personally I thought she’d tell Shiemi something like “your dad died during the Blue night” since she doesn’t particularly want Shiemi to become an exorcist, but maybe it’s possible that either Shiemi or one of her parents come from Section 13? The common point between Shiemi, her mom and Arthur being that they all have close apperances to Lucifer, so maybe they’re all supposed to be clones of him?
Also this (from page 12)…
“Demons with strong regeneration abilities” + “biologically-speaking the donor’s siblings will show [???]” => Rin and Yukio anyone? Who were one of the causes/consequences of the Blue night that literally happened where Lightning found those files?
So okay, I guess the True Cross order couldn’t remain a shining and morally upright organization for the rest of the plot for obvious reasons, but still, the biggest problem I have with all this is that, even if I would be a fool to trust anything Mephisto says, the fact he seemed so against Lucifer + that he’s literally “toying with [everyone] as if they’re worms because they need to take down the Illuminati” is a bit at odds with the fact that the Illuminati and Section 13 are basically up to more or less the same thing?
So what the hell Mephy? Are you going against your own brother because he had the same idea as you??? Though maybe the difference between them is that Lucifer wants to reunite Assiah and Gehenna when Mephisto wishes to avoid that at all costs? Or maybe Mephisto wishes to perfect the elixir for his own self while Lucifer wants to perfect it for their father?
In any case, if what’s written on page 12 is accurate I guess that explains why Mephisto helped Shiro keep the twins alive. Hell, maybe even the fact Yuri was the one who got pregnant of Satan when Shiro loved her (according to Shura) was all Mephisto’s plan to make sure Shiro wouldn’t kill the twins?
I just am not sure of anything anymore right now. In any case, maybe Arthur coming from the Asylum/Section 13 explains why he’s so harsh with Demons and why he hates Mephisto so much…

If Arthur really is a clone of Lucifer (which I believe too), I don’t think he’s aware of that.
Ah good point! In fact you’re right, it’s more logical to think that, since Section 13 was apparently a part of the True Cross order until 16 years ago, Arthur wouldn’t be so dedicated to the Order if he really knew where he came from.
At the same time, looking at the panel of the file with the children, the one on the left looks to be at least 12 and he has a special collar around his neck, like the others, so if those children were experimented on or often receiving checkups, then if Arthur is a clone too, it’s possible he might remember these moments? Also, there this post, and you’re who asked ^^

PS: when it comes to Yuri, the twins’ mother, I just remembered that “Egin” which is her last name is the same as “Egyn”, the name of the King of Water, so it’s possible Yuri was a clone of Egyn…
Also about Shiemi, I rechecked and she’s younger than the twins : she’s born in March according to the Wikia and in Japan, the school system is as such that for the same school year, the oldest kids are born in April/May while the youngest of the school year are born in March, which is why we can be sure that Shiemi was born 3 months after the twins.
So maybe her mom never could give birth to her within Section 13 because the Asylum (in this timeline) was shut down after the Blue Night in December, 16 years ago.
