Hey you know how Marude had this intuition about the Washus? Maybe it came from Akira’s dad and if that’s true, do you think it’s possible maybe Ukina and Akira’s dad were related? They’re both blond and I saw that Mado wasn’t even his last name? Maybe Eto’s mom had an intuition too?

Oooh! Nice little crack theory there Anon 🙂 (especially considering that Eto is supposed to be the one who killed Akira’s mom)

But you know, it all depends on whether Marude was inspired by Mado Kureo to follow his own intuition or if he followed a lead that Mado was investigating before dying. Or maybe it was even a combination of both, hard to say at this point (still, considering how Marude had been knowing Yoshitoki for years, being partners and all, it could be that he started noticing things on his own simply because he’s an outstanding investigator or

because of Hide too).

I have to admit though, I’ve been wondering a lot ever since ch61…

because you’re right and Kureo did take his wife’s last name (explanation here and here). And maybe call me paranoid, but I just don’t understand why Ishida revealed such a trivial (on first glance) detail about two characters who have been dead for a long time out of the blue.

I mean I love trivia about characters (everything is welcome) but I can’t help but think that if Ishida felt the need to point out that Mado’s name was actually not his name from birth (when he and Kasuka have been dead for a long time), that could be because his original name… has a meaning for the plot? Maybe?

So I never imagined that he could be related to Ukina (whose last name is also not known) but frankly yeah why not?
I really don’t mind envisioning different theories on the subject right now 🙂 Especially since Mado Kureo introduced the concept of intuition and it’s still quite the big deal in the story through Akira’s character and even for badass moments with other characters, like Marude in one of the last chapters.

However, I think for Ukina it had to be more than just intuition for her to try investigating and bringing down such a dark and dreadful organization (covering both the human and ghoul sides of the world as the CCG and V respectively), to the point that she even tried to get closer to a ghoul like Kuzen.

Personally I was thinking that Mado Kureo’s original family name would maybe have to do with old ghoul-hunting clans (if that’s a plot point), seeing as the intuition could definitely be a genetic skill (considering how Akira literally knows things she shouldn’t be able to have a clue about), just like the huuuuge strength for the Kuroiwa family.

There is definitely more to say on Ukina’s character though, so maybe we will have our answers later because I’m pretty sure Ishida will explain just why as a human she tried to do something so dangerous.

In the meantime, I’m open to theories so thanks a lot for sharing! :)) I sure wouldn’t mind knowing more about Kasuka and Ukina anyway, so it’s whenever Ishida-sensei is ready ^^

Have a nice day Anon and thanks for passing by!

Tokyo Ghoul is a very cool manga and such, I have a question about Eto: She has a height of 151 cm (she’s an adult and her parents have regular heights) and her hair color is green, though her parents’ hairs are blonde and black. I think this is a result of Ukina, I mean she’s a human was impregnated (don’t know how to spell haha XD)by a ghoul and cannibalized, so some serious shit was goping on in Ukinas’s womb. Maybe that explains where Eto got those from,or logic doesn’t count in manga lol ^^

Hey Anon 🙂 Yeah I love TG too! ^^

And about Eto’s hair: lol well, it’s not like hair color in particular is really logical in TG, because have you seen Kaneki? The guy dyes his hair in white or undyes it back to black every arc or so xD

You’re right though, it looks like Ukina was blond and Kuzen black-haired…

…So her green hair could be because she’s a natural hybrid and something went weird genetically on this point (though how did it become green of all things), or Ishida-sensei simply wanted a hair color which would make her stand out as a character (since the whole cast is basically up to 200+ characters or so right now). 🙂

I personally believe in the latter possibility because she has such a big importance in the plot after all, both as Eto the One-Eyed Owl and Takatsuki the best-selling author 🙂

And besides I totally dig her looks with her green hair 😀

I hope it answers your question, thanks for passing by Anon :)))

Given how most mothers in TG is either manipulative or abusive, I wonder how will Ishida reveal Ukina true motive.

Was it a coincidence that she met Yoshimura years ago?

Was it true love that she had with Yoshimura and devotion in teaching him?

Was it a miracle of half ghoul baby that she didn’t intend?

Ishida never reveals her face so I wonder what is fishy here.

T-thanks Ishida…

Like mother like daughter, manipulative women.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR IN THIS FANDOM

*i am cries* It’s interesting to see how her understanding of her absent parents has evolved over the years though.

pssssst Eto – maybe if you didn’t keep your father unconscious in a TANK he could tell you how sorry he was and how much he loved you.

But it’s like @oneeyedkingeto said [x]- she can’t actually be loved, right? She has to be right about how terrible the world is and how horrible people really are. Because if there was a possibility of love there all along, what has her life of fighting been for?

But…I’m not sold on the idea that Eto is right about this. Remember, she’s basing her opinion on this from her unique standpoint. She’s had a lifetime to construct her version of reality which we know, from past events, is not necessarily reliable nor accurate. She didn’t know her parents, and we’ve seen the judgments that she made about her father. But we already knew that Ukina was a reporter, and we already knew that she originally grew close to Kuzen to spy on him. We also know, at least from Kuzen’s perspective, that she grew to love him deeply, and that she risked her life to be with him, and to have Eto.

Eto’s view of her mother is inevitably colored by her experiences of the world, and the bitterness that has grown in her heart. Imagine that she found Ukina’s journal from before…before she fell in love, before she became pregnant…and assumed that her attitude never shifted. In reality, the sacrifices that Ukina made for Eto and Kuzen were incredible. Perhaps they were not sacrifices made from love…but if not, what were they made for? A story?

Either Ukina loved Kuzen and Eto, or she believed in something much greater than herself. I refuse to believe that Ukina was simply a “manipulative woman,” though if Eto’s rhetoric about changing the world is a true reflection of her motives, then perhaps they are alike. Either Ukina did what she did for her husband and daughter, or she did what she did for what she believed to be the betterment of all. But reducing either of them, the totality of their motives, their loves and their heartbreaks down to a simple act of manipulation is a gross misestimation of what these two women have accomplished, and most likely, what they will accomplish.

Perhaps Ukina started the work of bringing down V. Perhaps, when she died at the hands of her husband, she had no idea that her blood would flow through the veins of the one who finished that work.
