Hi. I’m not sure whether or not you’ve watched, read Death Note, if you did, which do you think is more tragic ending/death assuming Ciel will be devour by Sebastian at the end of the story? Being devoured by a demon or wandering in nothingness for eternity? Though I bet Ciel as well ended up wandering in nothingness. Justa random thoughts. Thank you in advance!!

Hi Anon! I half read and then half watched Death Note a long while ago. xD Actually I had started to rewatch it last summer but then I got stuff to do, so, yep.

I don’t really see the link with Kuro though, but to answer your question, as far as I’m concerned there are 3 possible endings for Ciel:

  • Ciel lives on because the contract gets broken => Seb loses.
  • Ciel dies after getting his revenge but his soul is collected by Shinigamis because the contract somehow got broken => Seb is defeated.
  • Ciel dies after getting his revenge and his soul is eaten by Seb => Seb gets food!

I was actually discussing this a while ago with @dorkshadows because we have this convo about the RCMT (real!Ciel mastermind theory = real!Ciel is partially involved with what happened 4 years ago) and, while I really don’t think Yana will want to make Ciel live on, I’d rather have his soul be collected by Shinigamis than eaten by Seb.

Not that I dislike Seb, I don’t and I think it’s important he gets to eat sometimes, but

nonetheless

I really hope he will be defeated this time and go home hungry.

The other thing is, if the RCMT is true and, more specifically, if real!Ciel knew their parents would be targeted 4 years ago but was okay with it because our!Ciel was the only person that mattered to him

image

…then, since Seb most likely ate the twin’s soul (confirmation or not of that next week), I don’t want our!Ciel’s soul to be stuck with his brother’s forever in Seb’s stomach, because that would be fulfilling real!Ciel’s wish when the twin would have triggered every horror that happened to them, so hell no.

Ciel finally resting in peace, so having his soul collected by a Shinigami (even if it’s to be sent to Hell afterwards), remains the best alternative in my opinion, since

for now

I really doubt that he has any way to live a long future.

Does it answer your question? Sorry if not. ^^” Have a nice day Anon!

Hello Ducky! Not sure if this has been asked before, but… Has there been any discussion by Yana or the Japanese fandom on why O!Ciel needed to take on the identity of R!Ciel? I mean, if the whole family is massacred and O!Ciel lives, then he is naturally next in the succession line, right? Then why did he have to go through the trouble of acting as R!Ciel, not revealing to anyone that he is actually O!Ciel?

akumadeenglish:

Well, the whole flashback we’ve been reading since last August revolves around that very question – it all started with RC’s question to OC ‘Why did you deceive everyone and pretend to be me?” in ch130,

image

so the reason will certainly be revealed within the flashback, most probably in this month’s chapter!

That said, one thing I can say for sure is that it wasn’t for practical reasons (as you pointed out, OC is the rightful “spare” of RC, so with both Vincent and RC being dead, he would have legitimately succeeded the title), but for emotional reasons!

I made this post a few months ago where I compared OC’s situation and motives for taking on his deceased twin’s identity with other famous manga series (Tsubasa Chronicle, Fushigi Yuugi and BASARA) and my conclusion was that in OC’s case it was probably a combination of

Furthermore, I remember there was an interesting theory in the JP fandom that the scene in ch95, where OC was confronted with his past in his nightmare, might actually be pretty much the answer to the question of “Why did OC take on his brother’s identity?”:

image
  • Did you want me to forgive you?
  • Did you want to break free from your weak self?
  • Did you want to make everything yours?
image

OC denied all these accusations, but considering he is depicted as one big liar throughout the series and never really admits his true motives (e.g. JTR arc + Circus arc), I think there is a chance that all these statements were actually true to some extent!

  • Did you want me to forgive you?

→OC suffers from strong guilt feelings because he survived at the expense of RC’s death and believes it should have been RC who survived instead of him (ch91).

image

Thus, he wanted to be forgiven by RC by taking on his name and carrying out the revenge on his behalf.

  • Did you want to break free from your weak self?

→I think this is also a big part of the reason why OC decided to take on his brother’s name. He was a powerless, weak child who could do nothing but watch his brother being taken to the altar and killed before his very eyes. By taking on his brother’s name, maybe he wanted to erase his weak self from this world.

  • Did you want to make everything yours?

→Lastly, this. While OC really loved RC and admired him, we also know that at the same time he’s always had an inferiority complex as well as some feelings of jealousy towards his healthy and sociable brother (ch131).

image

As the second child in the family he literally had nothing, no inheritance, no watchdog title, no fiancee. So while this was certainly not the main motive, maybe a tiny tiny part of him thought that

if he took on his brother’s name, he’d be able to get what he had secretly desired. This would also tie in with what Sebastian said to OC in ch63:

image

So yeah, it’s all just a theory but I personally thought it’s interesting particularly since we all know that Yana loves foreshadowing! xD

Anyway, let’s wait a few more days and hope that the next chapter will give us a somewhat clear answer to your question! 😀

sorry to bother you but did sebastian confirm that god exist? ciel felt there was no god then sebastian accuse ciel of turning his back on god? :o

her-majestys-watchdog:

you aren’t bothering me! i’m terrible at answering asks but i love them all ❤

hmmm… depends on how you see it! it could mean he confirmed god’s existence but i interpreted it in a less literal sense, with sebastian emphasizing the severity behind ciel’s change in faith rather than the actual truth behind it. ha– that’s hard to explain. whether or not god is real, sebastian can still see the weight that turning your back against any god has for humanity. … or something like that.

since yana touches on multiple religions across kuro, i can’t say i’d ever expect her to confirm one as more right above another. seems like she’s going for her own vision of things, which i like! it’s interesting

shinigami-mistress:

We haven’t heard from Aleister Chamber lately, but all this talk of cults and kidnapped children caused me to think of him once more. Here’s a big question that has only barely been discussed so far.

How likely is it that he was involved in the cult that sacrificed real!Ciel?

Of course, he wouldn’t have been there the day that Sebastian was summoned as he is still alive, but there’s still reason to believe that he could be involved. To begin with, our first introduction to Aleister was when he was suspected of being Jack the Ripper (one of the few things he was actually innocent of).  One of the reasons he was suspected was that he had recently gotten into black magic/occult.

We also know he has no qualms about kidnapping and selling individuals. In fact, it wouldn’t be too much a stretch to think he might have sold some children to the cult.

Secondly, he has connections to other cults. He was a very active member of the Aurora Society. While it’s unclear whether or not he was a member of the Blue Sect, his nephew was an important member. At the very least, he had an indirect connection to that cult. It’s not too much of a stretch to imagine he might have been a part of this cult as well.

Thoughts?

Hey guys, remember how Tanaka said that it was hard to differentiate the twins (and our!Ciel even said that Rachel and Vincent were mistaken at times too)? Well, in that case maybe Tanaka realized which twin had come back home 4 years ago…

when our!Ciel built the Funtom corporation, since it was his idea for a future career when he was 8/9?

(don’t mind me I’m just trying to make sense of things we still didn’t get an answer for :))

image

@tai-butler possible of course 🙂 but more especially in the case of the RCMT for me. I mean, if you consider the following scene…

image

Tanaka obviously knows something about the attack of December 14th, or at least he guessed who could have come after Vincent’s household. However if, more precisely, he realized that real!Ciel did something…

image

then maybe our!Ciel asking him about if he’s seen the culprit would have helped Tanaka with guessing which twin came back.

In general, I guess Tanaka had more than one way in 4 years to realize which twin our!Ciel was, especially when we know that our!Ciel is different from the rest of his family according to ch132 and UT in ch84.
However, without the RCMT, for now I don’t see how Tanaka could have realized just with seeing him at the hospital which twin our!Ciel was in ch62.

That’s why I think maybe our!Ciel building the Funtom corporation was a big hint for Tanaka, since it always was our!Ciel’s childhood dream in the first place. :))

rationalkuroshitsuji:

rationalkuroshitsuji:

Let’s unpack this scene, where Sebastian explains how Agni acquires superhuman strength (ch 18 pg 23).

I checked the Japanese to see whether Sebastian really said, “Something we could never obtain…” because sometimes fan translations are imprecise, and this “we” is critical to the interpretation.

The original is “私達には持い得ない.” I totally agree with the fan translation on this one. Not only is “私達” (watashitachi) definitely “we,” but it’s bolded in the original. We are most entitled to play with “we.”

So who is this “we”?! Is Sebastian referring to the people in the room? To all demons? To himself and Ciel?

There is no right answer; that ambiguity is part of the joke, which is why get this panel of sly Sebastian looking all slyly at Ciel. Soma and Lau are in the room at this point, but only Ciel and the reader know about Sebastian’s true condition.

Soma and Lau must think Sebastian means that Agni is incomparably pious, and therefore

incomparably

powerful.

Sebastian holds his hand over his chest suggesting his “we” refers to all demons. Surely demons cannot achieve a power granted by love and faith in god. Demons oughtn’t love a god who cast them out of heaven. They needn’t have faith in one either.

But what about Ciel? You’d think that since Ciel has proof positive of the existence of religious figures, he’d have an easy time believing in a god.

But what would be the point? Ciel’s fate is sealed. He has turned his back on the light and charged into the abyss. Even if he could find love and belief in a god, forgiveness and redemption is beyond Ciel’s reach.

“The price to cross the river has already been paid.” Ciel will be crossing the river.

No wonder Ciel’s expression says, “Rub it in, why don’t you…”

So, this got a little more interesting, now that chapter 136 has come out.

(Chapter 136 pg 27)

I retract what I said about Ciel having an easy time believing in God, for one thing.

We know now that part of (our) Ciel’s initial contact with Sebastian hinges on the fact that Ciel “spits upon God” (ch 136 pg 34).

It’s so fucking brutal of Sebastian to explain how the pious can gain great power, knowing that Ciel renounced God in the course of gaining great power. It’s like he’s saying, “Yes, there is a God, and you could have drawn power from Him, but you’re stuck with me instead.”

I personally think that Sebastian has many “true” forms. That all those monstrosities he’s been depicted as are all “real.” Eyes, bloody goop, flames, that giant fukkn hand, those weird tongue/horn things, and last but not least, those glorious high heeled boots of his. (And the humanoid form, with long, sharp nails and teeth in addition to the boots.) His human form, however, is truly a disguise. I think. I guess his human form could be “true” but everyone always call it a disguise. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hi Anon! And yes, I totally agree, it’s also something that @abybweisse and @hitsugikuro discussed here. :))

I do think that his human form however is just a disguise and not at all something that relates to his true form, because of events like this…

That could also be the reason why Shinigamis can apparently know on the spot what he is and who knows if some humans as well cannot see through his disguise as well.

In any case, truly glorious moment, I sure loved it and I’m glad that we will see the beginning of the contract from Ciel’s point of view next month. :))

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and have a nice day Anon!

Hi and I’ll take your word for it Anon, because I haven’t watched nor read either series 😉 but from the way you describe it, it does seem accurate!

I agree on the cool part though, definitely, but then again, it’s not particularly new that Seb had a few cool sides, despite being a horrifying demon eating souls. xD

Thanks for passing by and have a nice day Anon. :))
