It seems to me that there are a lot of characters with promise that Ishida just decides to sit on, and the Uta, Yomo and Itori trio has always been a prime example for this. They really are what you might call “Heroes of another story” each of them characters with potential for a lot of depth that you can tell the author put a lot of effort into developing, but also the author not willing to show us this. A lot of Yomo’s character development (or at least the revealing of his character, Yomo’s one of those characters where most of his development happened before the beginning of the story and thus we meet him when he’s completed his arc) was only revealed to us at the end of og tg, and then just now in the Cochlea arc.
I guess I can understand Ishida’s reasoning for this. Character balance is a delicate thing, and he probably doesn’t want Uta, Yomo and Itori to overshadow the main characters especially since they’re only tangentially related through them.
Itori had a lot of importance in the og tg though, she was the one who first gave us a detailed explanation of one eyed ghouls, introduced us to the gourmet club, and then later it was in her bar that Kaneki learned who the one eyed king might be.
There’s almost no mentioned reason for why exactly Itori would disappear between then and Re: Perhaps because Goat has made enemies of the clowns now, a Kaneki with his memories recovered doesn’t have a real reason to seek her out. There’s also another information agent that was introduced in Re, that is specifically on the side of Goat and much more trustworthy than Itori would be. Perhaps the reason why she hasn’t reappeared is because she hasn’t been needed in her previously established role yet.
Itori is definitely an important character still though, even if she might not be tangentially related to the main Kaneki plot at the moment it still would make sense for her to be among the clowns main attack force like Nico, Uta, and Donato all were.
My only guess as to why she’s not is she might be yet another sun arc surprise that’s brewing. As to what she could reveal, being an information broker she might be the one to finally break what the clown’s connection to the Washuu is, and being somebody whose known Uta since their teens she might be the insight as to what his deal is. There’s a lot of exposition yet to be filled out, so you can see where an information broker would come in handy.
That’s all just speculation though, to me it’s kind of a waste that Ishida lets characters disappear like this offscreen. One throwaway line is really all we need to know what Itori is up to. Hakatori and Shikorae are also characters that could be super relevant right now, especially with Hakatori’s connection to Amon and Shikorae’s to scarecrow (possibly) and the clowns but who knows when they’ll show up again.
Hello! I’ve seen other Anons (unless it was you? ;)) asking around the same thing to other bloggers but no source means not true + she’s Ishida’s character so no one besides Ishida has the right to decide where she appears.
Maybe Ishida forgot about her altogether (tho’ I don’t think so), but I don’t think her character got “cancelled”, haha.
Touka going to Itori for business tips in exchange for free coffee. And when customers have been giving Touka an especially hard day, she goes to Helter Skelter to get drunk off one sip of blood wine and word vomit out her worries to Nee-san (who takes note of all the interesting stuff for later use). Touka somehow accidentally becomes the Clowns main info source 😂
Remember it’s not actually a real face, but some kind of lookalike mask that Uta probably puts together thanks to his kagune, which means that it might degrade more quickly than normal body parts would, if stabbed a hundred times with a quinque. All that to say, it could be Uta playing Mutsuki indeed but it could also simply be the “mask” degrading since it’s on Uta’s face.
As for Mutsuki, please consider their mental state at the moment of ch114, they’re obviously not acting or thinking rationally, which is why “Haise”’s face in the panel above could also be what Mutsuki themselves saw at that moment (since they say “he’s all done”; that’s called the unreliable narrator trope).
Finally, don’t worry, I also don’t think Uta is dead 😉
I hope it helps a little! Have a nice weekend Anon!
I don’t think so Anon, as I’ve stated many times before, though it’s just my opinion.
Please make sure to check my Itori tag before asking another question about her. 🙂
Have a nice weekend!
Hey Anon!
Hmm… I don’t know? It’s really hard to say when many characters deserve to be on a cover as well and when she hasn’t really been a recurring character, even back in TG. She could have a true importance to the plot as many theorized of course, but since for now we still don’t know where she is, I wouldn’t bet on her getting a volume cover. 🙂 At least not for now.
And yeah, I was a bit caught off guard that it seemed Haise actually went more than twice to :Re while in fact it’s not that surprising (considering that he thought about her in ch31.5 during Christmas, way after the last time we saw him going to :Re).
Anyway, I also agree that the difference between Haise’s behavior and Kaneki’s current awkwardness is a bit funny, but all in all that’s not so surprising either 🙂
Kaneki really went through a lot during the last arc: between Arima’s death, Eto’s proposal of becoming the OEK… And as I said once, he probably hasn’t showed an actual smile ever since Arima died, so since he’s focusing on “having to fight” (like after the Aogiri arc in TG), a lot of things are put on hold for the time being.
That being said…
…Touka’s punch didn’t really help the fact that things between them are awkward and that they need to talk. But I’m hopeful…
‘Cause Touka asked for a talk and Kaneki’s comrades are aware that he’s having a few difficulties processing what the role of the OEK means.
So don’t worry Anon, I’m sure they will be able to start communicating properly once they get to talk!
Have a nice weekend and thanks again for reading! 🙂
Well, Anon, from the moment this…
happens just before they started the investigation for the auction arc, I think that means that Sasako making this compliment to Mutsuki didn’t make them uncomfortable. On they contrary they were rather flustered and happy (because they already had this obsessive crush on Haise back then).
Basically just consider that at the moment of :Re ch1, Mutsuki already was starting to be “in love” with Haise, okay? This will make things easier xD
I hope it helps, have a nice weekend!
Hey Anon! Well, between her obvious crush on Saiko in ch112 and this omake, yeah probably. 🙂
The point is, she’s interested in Saiko: she could be a lesbian, bi or pan, it’s all that matters ‘cause her crush is super cute.
Pass it on.
Haha, have a nice weekend Anon!
Hey Anon!
Well, in my opinion, it should probably be either…
or…
or…
Not so different from the fandom as a whole, hahah xDD Have a nice weekend Anon!
About Itori’s mask, I already spoke a lot of time about it so please see here for your answer and please check her tag before asking any other questions about her in the future! 🙂
No, she didn’t get any bio for the moment (the TG wikia could have confirmed you that much ;)).
Ah, I talked about this before as well [x] but no, we weren’t given any proof that she lied about anything she told Kaneki before:
she’s the one who told him that the accident with Rize wasn’t an accident and she was right + the few things we know about V and Rize also tell us that she didn’t lie about what she quickly told Kaneki about them
she was evasive about Kanou but as far as we know she didn’t lie
she introduced Kaneki to the existence of another OEG (Eto) and she didn’t lie
she even gave him advice twice:
once seemingly about V (and Rize)…
and the second time was when Nico told Kaneki that Eto was the OEK (and in both cases, she was right).
So nope, I don’t think that Itori lied, even less when most of her info exchanges with Kaneki were trades in the first place, so she wouldn’t have needed to lie to him when he was basically buying her info with his. 🙂
I hope it answers your questions, have a nice day Anon!
If I have to be honest, I didn’t recognize Itori anywhere on this tree, but at the same time, I think the only really recognizable character are Furuta, Rize and Arima and it’s kinda on purpose, so it’s not of much help when it comes to Itori 🙂
Itori is probably around Arima’s age, like Uta and Yomo, which would make her in her late 20s/early 30s, but that aside, there is not much else we can deduce about her… Ah, well, besides the good possibility that she’s a Ukaku.
Anyway, I still agree on the possibility for Itori to be linked to the Garden, but I’d say more as a womb/breeder like Rize than as a “real” Washuu like Matsuri, unless we’re talking about the possibility that she could be Washuu Iyo of course xD
Sorry if that doesn’t help much Anon, but that’s all I have so far! Please have a nice day 🙂
