Intentions?

shinigami-mistress:

There’s one part of this chapter and actually the last chapter that’s been bothering me. We know that our!Ciel was the one who called Sebastian, because Sebastian talks about a loud cry that called him.

Our!Ciel was also the one who had turned his back on God. After all, there’s actually one woman in the cult who’s actually praying for forgiveness.

So, it was definitely our!Ciel, yet Sebastian says something odd the first time he appears.

He asks who summoned him in the pursuit of pleasure, wealth, calamity, and tragedy. This doesn’t sound like our!Ciel in the least. He cried out in anguish. In fact, that sounds more like some of the others in the cult.

(Excuse the sloppy editing.)

So, why did Sebastian talk about pursuing pleasure, wealth, calamity, and tragedy?

I think they are two possibilities. One is that is what people usually call upon demons for, so this is what Sebastian expected. He only knew that he had been called on by a loud cry and by someone who had turned their back on God. He simply assumed that whoever summoned him would want such things – and it does fit with much of the cult. This could be even a bit of what Sebastian typically said upon being summoned – like a practiced speech.

But there is still a second possibility. Many of us have discussed at length Sebastian’s manipulation of our!Ciel in the way he convinced the kid that he was the one who sacrificed his brother. If not an out and out lie, it seems a tenuous connection at best. Even if our!Ciel did call him, he had no intention of offering his brother’s soul. He hadn’t been willing to pay that price.

What if Sebastian was including our!Ciel as being part of the cult?

He was combining their actions and their wants along with our!Ciel’s turning his back on God and his loud, anguished cry. It’s odd because our!Ciel was only the cult’s victim, but it appears that Sebastian may have lumped them all together – perhaps for his own convenience.

After all, Sebastian has been shown to be curious about people. While he’s good a manipulating, he’s ignorant at times to the way humans really think and feel. He has said they often surprise him. In truth, he may not understand our!Ciel’s motives in the least. He might have thought our!Ciel was like the members of the cult even if he was a prisoner and not a member. Honestly, it’s hard to say.

Either way, either Sebastian simply assumed that anyone who summons a demon wants pleasure, wealth, and tragedy or he was lumping our!Ciel’s cry with the intentions of the cult.

Thoughts?

I just learned that Queen Victoria’s son actually had a blood disease, which is ironic considering the important of blood in the current arc right now.

thedarkestcrow:

Yes, apparently haemophilia was even called “the royal disease” because many of Queen Victoria’s descendants (who married into other royal houses throughout Europe) suffered from this disease (source).

It would indeed be interesting if the Blue Sect has anything to do with that…

While I was rereading the compania arc I noticed that Rian mentioned something about a company called « Osiris » buying his technology. It has been a while since I’ve read any further than that but I don’t think that Yana has elaborated on it any further. Basically I wanted to ask you if you think this could show up again soon because Yana doesn’t drop useless hints. Also Osiris reminds me of Sirius 😅

hitsugikuro:

her-majestys-watchdog:

Oh that sounds interesting! I vaguely remember that, let me have a look.

“[Osiris] must be a dummy used soley for carrying out transactions like this.”

Ciel spoke of following up the company but if he has I can’t find anything on it, so maybe he hasn’t done so on screen. Either way, he probably hit the nail on the head by assuming it was a fake company and that would certainly support your theory.

Osiris is (obviously) almost an anagram of Sirius so you would think it has some relation to the sect, there’s also the fact that the Campania’s owner was the “Blue Star Line” which is of course a reference to the Titanic, but is it really a coincidence that the “Blue Star” is also the focus of Blavat’s arc? It would be really thoughtless if that was an unintentional similarity.

image

This is a little ironic since the current arc is often accused of being half-assed, but since it’s the “2CT arc” it’s probably something Yana has had in mind for a while; how could she not. Therefore, my point is the similarities between “Blue Star (Sirius)” and “Blue Star Line” are unlikely to be an accident since Yana has been planning the 2CT-reveal for, presumably, the entire manga.

If the “Blue Star” was in another arc I’d be less inclined to believe it was an intentional similarity, but since it’s the 2CT she must have known they’d be the same and would avoid the unintentional parallel if it wasn’t needed?

So that would be an additional similarity! Not only does the Campania arc almost have Sirius in it with “Orisis” but it has a “Blue Star” too, we can probably be safe in assuming the same company was involved – especially since UT has made his presence known at RC’s side. There are a lot of parallels…

Just adding on a little information on to this about Osiris.  The name is also an Egyptian god of the dead who was killed by his brother, Set.  Set cut his body into many pieces and distributed them throughout Egypt, but Isis (Osiris’ wife) found the pieces, put him back together and resurrected him.  Therefore, he became the god who judges the dead and also grants life after death in the ancient belief system.

Coincidentally, Osiris is also seen as a god of cycles and rebirth and became associated with the moon (which is commonly referenced and pictured in kuroshitsuji) as well as the stars Orion and Sirius, since they rise into the northern horizon at the beginning of the new year.

I’m still not sure how this is all going to correlate but I did think those points were interesting enough to add. ^^;

Cor-san, what do you think that’ll happen in next chapter?

coromoor:

Oh man who knows, anything could happen. If I had to guess, in the next few chapters we’ll see the Oggai attack the 24th ward, Touka will be taken into custody, she’ll join Yoriko for the grand public execution for the CCG to make a spectacle of a ghoul and the human who ‘helped them’ (I can imagine Furuta would love the idea of taking out the Queen piece on the chess board right in front of a crowd), but then some kind hearted terrorists will come and save the day. Meanwhile Ayato will come back from the 24th Ward and we’ll get this scene with Ayato and Kaneki

I dunno I dunno. I also like the idea that there’s some involvement with Kanou so we get reintroduced to Kimi again and learn more about ghoul biology and pregnancies. Then Touka can also findArata down in the CCG labs. There’s really so many ways it could go that its really pointless playing guessing games :’)

Death Mirrored; Kill or Be Killed

Okay, so…

It doesn’t sound great when the person left in charge of 0 Squad is threatening to kill a child. In any other circumstance it would be a pretty big red flag. But after thinking about it for a bit, it’s probably going to be an important necessity in the upcoming chapters.

We’ve heard over the last three chapters now that Shuu is frustrated with Kaneki’s pacifist approach. That’s some rough foreshadowing when paired with Touka begging her unborn child not to die. I’m getting the sense that Kaneki will lose someone close to him if he keeps trying to “save” everyone, so the fact that Hirako and Tsukiyama are are both ready to get ugly at the drop of a pin could actually be a saving grace.

image

Unfortunately, threatening Hazuki was absolutely necessary in Goat’s case. The reality of the situation is that he could easily have swung around and killed someone in 0 Squad, or took off and killed one of the Aogiri orphans. It would be lovely to be able to sit down and talk it through, but the Oggai aren’t a joke, children or not.

The concept of children being exploited and victimized by organizations has been looming in the background since Arima was introduced as an investigator at 15. But now we’re finally, finally being challenged to address everything that comes with that: would you call him a murderer as a child? was it really his fault that he was in that position? was Hikari wrong if she tried to kill him when he was sent after her family? what about 0 Squad?.. the Oggai?

Where do we draw the line?

Furuta stressed the “cute little children” aspect of the Oggai. He’s purposefully rubbing the horrible truth of the CCG’s disgusting history unabashed in everyone’s faces, and finding that the general populous is fine with turning a blind eye to it. But let’s see how they feel when a ghoul kills one of them…

Anyway, I think I’m just very excited to see things from Take’s perspective. He’s proven that he does value people’s lives and well-being, and that he deeply considers the moral high-road in situations, so I don’t think he’s necessarily looking at the kids as adults or tools like we might think.

Threatening Hazuki feels much more like another example of Hirako being trained to act without thinking– to kill or be killed.

image
image
image

It only just feels wrong now because it’s literally a child in his line of fire– which for some reason feels much more serious coming from Take’s mouth than Tsukiyama’s…

image

It’s an enormous moral problem, as Furuta maniacally intended it to be. I’m extremely interested in watching all the current characters finally having to look at the Oggai in the face– literally death in a mirror– and seriously weigh the horror of children being exploited, and where to draw the line when it comes to protecting their own from them.

Timeline of the Revolution(s)

hysyartmaskstudio:

In taking another look at the story Nishiki tells about the original OEK’s revolution, I noticed some discrepancies in the story we have been given up until now, so I figured I’d try to reconstruct the timeline here.

According to the CCG, and so one assumes, the official record, the CCG was founded by Daikichi Washuu around 1890.

image

This matches up with what Eto says, about the original OEK being the reason the CCG was founded over 100 years ago.

Nishiki’s telling seems at first to match Eto’s:

but there are a few strange details that don’t quite add up.

Nishiki seems to place this about two generations back and mentions humans being ravaged by war at the time, seeming to imply a post-WWII timeline.

But assuming the history of the Tokyo Ghoul universe is the same as ours (plus ghouls), and assuming Nishiki was just being overly simplistic with his two generation time marker, the original 1890 founding date gives us the Bakumatsu period and the internal Japanese wars that went along with the beginning of the Meiji restoration. The creation of a central anti-ghoul corporation by the Washuu at this time would have been right in line with The Meiji restoration’s modernization, formalization and centralization of industry and state, regardless of any revolutionary ghoul running around, so it’s an easy thing for the official CCG narrative to omit.

But Nishiki’s telling actually seems to imply a second revolution after the CCG was already founded, taking advantage of the post WWII chaos. A second OEG and a second rebellion, this time leading to the formation of V, as separate from the founding of the CCG. Such an event would lend some credence to Eto’s claim that One Eyed Ghouls have historically been a sign of change, if this had happened twice before, not just the once.

A post WWII timeline makes more sense for the construction of the 24th ward, as well – considering the total chaos and massive rebuilding efforts, as well as more advanced technology at the time.

It also implies some 55 years of a Washuu led CCG without the existence of V, or at the very least, a shift in the functionality of the behind the scenes group.

It also seems to imply a significant increase in CCG extermination efforts around that time, an echo of Nishiki’s observation that the current CCG under Furuta is making the previous efforts of the CCG look like a joke, something which Furuta also mentions on his side of things. The Washuu were staying their hand.

History does tend to repeat itself.

I expect we are due for a more explicit history lesson on the Washuu and V soon, but a second revolution only some 70-odd years in the past certainly strengthens the possibility that the leader of that rebellion is still alive down deep in the 24th, somehow.

Another thing to my angst version of 2ct, real!Ciel has to look absolutely hideous. I mean, he somehow lived through getting stab and a fire, and somehow got resurrected by Ut, he has to be covered in scars and injuries. Even his hands look super veiny, the rest of his body must look just as bad. I want his face to be like the Phantom, super messed up and covered with a mask (sorry, that’s all I know about him >_<;). 1/4

cielizzydefencesquad:

dorkshadows:

Enough of these beautiful twin fan deceptions, make him just a downright fugly brat. And his personality is just as bad. He already killed agni and attempted to murder Soma. Make him Ciel’s foil, instead of hiding his feelings and showing a cold exterior, make him extremely emotional and unstable, constantly throwing fits about how pitiful he is, mourning his parents death and hating his sibling down to the last hair. 2/4

He should be super envious over how well off Ciel is and how he stole everything from him, his rights, his wife, even his own identity. I see him super possessive over Lizzy too, her being the only family that knows he exists. And he’d to far gone and too hateful to care about another person, but he can’t stand the thought of the one “thing” he got back chose our!Ciel over him. ¾

And the most important part of all this is that he’s completely understandable. If someone went through all the things he did they would probably end up the same (though it’s definitely not justifable). So yeah, something similar to Alois I guess, lol just realized that know, but that’s basically the only version of 2ct I’ll accept. 4/4

YO! I approve- go and replace Editor K right now. I am 100% down with this. Darken everything- his personality is shit and his body is shit. If real!Ciel came back hideously disfigured, as in full-on horrible to look at, then the 2ct might be acceptable. Down with beautiful twin depictions, please. I wanna see how many twin-lurving fans are left after he’s revealed to be ugly af.

Emotional, unstable, and Ciel taken to the extreme would be amazing. And him drowning in self pity is a great idea. Let’s have him whine over how bad his life is at every point and how Ciel stole it all from him. I can see him as possessive over Lizzie too, in a creepy #NOPE way. And from what we know of him on her flashbacks, he always thought of her as a submissive wife. She’ll be an object to him and he won’t be able to accept that this she chose our!Ciel.

I like the idea of him as a tragic villain, in a pitiful monstrous way. Like, nothing he does is right, but it’s easy to see why he’d do it. He’ll make Alois seem like a total angel. I can accept your version of the 2ct too!

This is the most satisfying/darkly mesmerizing version of 2CT I’ve ever read and I just really, really wanna thank you for posting it – I feel so enthralled just by reading this! XD @infinite-vague-replays @dorkshadows

I want to see a twin whose exterior is just as damaged as his mental state. I want to see a Phantom of the Opera style real!Ciel whose delusions are only hampered by the pure, unrelenting anger and injustice he feels towards his (supposedly) undeserving younger brother, the one who was supposed to inherit nothing but somehow, wound up with everything. (Materially at least.)

I would love to delve into the twisted psyche of a boy who was killed, revived, and, quite literally, stitched back together using deranged scientific measures of another plane. Deprived of his inheritance, home, family, and now, his beauty. A monstrous, frightful creature, repugnant to behold with his repulsive, rotting flesh and decaying, disfigured visage. A twisted, lopsided mouth begging for validation and remembrance all the while spewing fire and fury. (“Lizzy, Lizzy’s here – and she will remain here. Forever, if I wish it. What right has he – what right has HE – to deprive me of all that was once MINE? To think of a time when I once called him brother only to stand here now, before the veil of life and death, barely living while he calls himself Phantomhive. That is the first injustice I will seek to remedy.” AKA, what I imagine real!Ciel’s manifesto to sound like.)

Real!Ciel would be such a tragic, pathetic, harrowing anti-villain. A boy who is, by all means, both sympathetic and reviled; whose rage and bloodlust inspire hatred in us, the readers, but whose memories of that month (where his forced sacrifice enabled his twin to secure freedom and demonic power) make him one of the most comprehensive quasi-villains in all of Kuro.

(And the image of him trying to collect all the pieces of his former life – the estates, Funtom, Lizzy – is both wretched and wretchedly deplorable. A poor, lamentable figure of limestone vengeance who inspires both pity and outrage.)

So I was watching through some TG, and….

eyepatch-usagi:

I came across this

That’s right folks.

Hide is performing the legendary Nimu-dash.

This little fucker even knew the technique as a smol child.

Just look at that flawless execution!

There’s the proof: Hide is most definitely a Washuu.

More than likely Furuta/Souta’s little brother.

Who else would he learn it from?

This is the Washuu’s equivalent to the Uchiha’s Sharingan.

A skill inherited through blood.
