Today on That’s A Shitty Theory, Nikki:
What if there’s tons of people living, not knowing that they have some ghoul in their lineage? Maybe RC cell over-secretion disease happens when a half-ghoul is able to manifest a kagune, but the person has no idea how to use it, so it builds up and bursts out all over the body instead of the concentrated area of their kakuhou?
I was thinking maybe Shirazu’s mother was a ghoul and abandoned her family before they could find out the truth about her, and then his father killed himself out of shame, fearing that he’d have to explain himself after Haru’s disease started to show.
This is actually an incredibly interesting idea. I know after we learned about the Half-Humans, I had wondered whether the “0.01% of humans with super strength” such as Amon and the Kuroiwa family are in fact people with ghoul heritage.
I mean, now we know that ghouls and humans having kids isn’t as rare as the original series led us to believe. There’s a good chance that ROS and enhanced physical abilities are both results of mixed bloodlines, which have not been closely monitored like the Garden kids.
Who knows how common interbreeding actually is, or how fertility works in hybrids. From the whole Half-human vs One-Eyed ghoul thing, it seems like the more prominent ghoul traits are recessive. So there’s a good chance people have been passing these traits along for a while now, often without a single clue of their own heritage. And then, randomly, you see those traits emerge in someone either through enhanced abilities or an RC-related condition.
