Vincent Phantomhive headcanons

cielizzydefencesquad:

@midnight-in-town Happy Birthday, Daddy Watchdog!

– Vincent has no illusions about who he is, what he does, and what he’s intended to do. He is able to compartmentalize things/events with disturbing ease and his viciousness knows no bounds. Beneath that gentlemanly facade, Vincent has a dark—almost cruel—sense of humor and without his family, he may have succumbed (completely) to the Phantomhive malice. He is able to disguise most of his darker urges but it’s a false facade, hidden beneath a veneer of perfect charm and intellect.

– As a youth (and, tbh, as an adult) Vincent excelled in every field he put his mind to and quickly learned that station and status can have a greater impact on one’s future than raw talent alone.

– He is an excellent marksman with a steady hand, cool head, and sniper-level precision.

– Despite his apathetic view of the world and moral ambiguity, Vincent adores his baby sister Francis because she is able to fend for herself and, underneath her stern exterior, possesses a genuinely good heart. He terrorized any suitor he thought of as unworthy and initially wanted Francis to marry Queen Victoria’s third son, Prince Arthur. Having carefully cultivated the match, Vincent was quite irritated when Francis fell in love with Alexis Leon Midford but, in a rare show of true benevolence, agreed to the engagement when he realized Alexis was much easier to manipulate than a royal prince.

– Once on a mission to Budapest, Vincent was severely injured in an unexpected explosion. Diedrich rushed inside the burning building, dragged “that insufferable Phantomhive” out of there, and then carried his former rival turned reluctant best friend turned partner on his back to the nearest medical facility, nearly twelve miles away.

– After, when Diedrich was framed by the Austro-Hungarian Empire for causing that explosion, Vincent gamely abandoned his planned business trip to New York and accompanied his faithful German hound to Budapest to clear his name. During that time Vincent pestered Diedrich with horribly timed knock knock jokes, bad puns, and a relentless flow of conversation that just never seemed to end. It was the only thing Vincent could think of to keep Diedrich from falling into despair. While many don’t see past Diedrich’s gruff exterior and draconian discipline, Vincent knows that one of the things his old friend cherishes above all else is his sense of honor and duty.

– It was Vincent and Francis who arranged the engagement between Ciel and Elizabeth. Vincent desperately wanted his child to have knowledge of integrity, valor, and goodness—three things he thought the Midford family personified. He later felt some guilt in having roped his sister’s only daughter into a life of crime and immorality but in Francis’s words: “If you think a Midford would ever succumb to such transgressions then you, Vincent Phantomhive, are still as dense as ever.”

– His favorite scent is lavender and moonflower essence. He gifted the perfume to Rachel when the two began courting and since then, it’s been her signature fragrance.

– Ciel inherited Vincent’s cunning and ambition but also his mother’s compassion and fierce loyalty. Vincent hoped Ciel would be spared from the Phantomhive “evil” that is inherent in each descendent but the cult saw otherwise. Thus, he never really wanted Ciel to become the watchdog but accepted it as a real possibility.

– Vincent prefers French cuisine (particularly the recipes of Antoine Carême), baroque architecture, and only drinks wine imported from the vineyards of Aquitaine.

– In spite of his good looks and well practiced charm, Vincent thought marriage a secondary task in comparison to Funtom and his duties to the queen. He met Mr. Dalles esq. by accident and became intrigued by the description of his two daughters. During that time, Vincent was actually more interested in Angelina. He was impressed by her strong will, fierce intellect, and medical ability but her shyness, insecurity, and hesitation made him choose Rachel instead. He kept in touch with Angelina and she eventually joined the Evil Noblemen as their professional medical advisor and physician.

– If he had a daughter he would have named her Cordelia Claudia Phantomhive, after the compassionate daughter of King Lear.

– Vincent has bank accounts all over the world—from Switzerland to Munich to New York to Luxembourg. (‘I’d like to think myself a humble man but, as Diedrich so often points out, my sense of humility is often blinded by my one of a kind diamond collection.”)

– Vincent has a bachelor’s degree in moral philosophy from the University of Cambridge. (He inherited his rather curious sense of humor from his father…nudge, nudge, wink, wink.)

– He can speak nine different languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Latin, Greek, Russian, Polish, and Chinese. (Hi Lau.)

– Vincent respected and admired his mother but found it difficult to openly express affection towards her.

– It’s actually Francis who has the sweet tooth in the Phantomhive family. Vincent dislikes pastries and candy in general, preferring fine brandies, Beluga Sturgeon caviar, and rare lamb.

– The Phantomhives have a gorgeous seaside villa in Martinique that Vincent built for Rachel as an early wedding present. (They, er, spent a lot of time there.)

– Undertaker was one of the few people Vincent genuinely trusted outside his family.

– It was Rachel who came up with Ciel’s name. Vincent had wanted to name his son Joachim, after the great French military general Joachim-Napoleon Murat. (But Rachel’s response was more or less, “Why on earth would I ever saddle my son with a name that conjures up the image of a 50 year old vagabond with no teeth and a head full of lice?”) She was even less pleased when Vincent suggested the name Hannibal:

“Are you out of your mind?”

“What’s so preposterous about this one? He’s considered one of the finest military generals in history.”

“And what does his name rhyme with?”

“Oh love, you don’t believe anyone would ever be so childish as to insinuate that our son is a cannib—“

“Tell me you wouldn’t be tempted to call our child the Watchdog’s cannibal.”

“…”

“Exactly.”

Happy birthday to our daddy vin!!! Hi tdc. Since its his day, may I ask what are your hc/s about Vincent and marques Milford relationship as siblings.. just thinking about it makes me giggle lol. Thank you and have a nice day

thedarkestcrow:

Hi. 🙂 Since you say siblings I assume you mean Marchioness Midford, aka Frances (not Alexis, right?) XD  All right, let’s see…

  • Before Frances was born little Vincent didn’t like the idea of having a sibling and at first he was angry when Claudia told him that he would have a sibling. But as soon as he saw his little baby sister he changed his opinion and became very protective of her. Every time she started to cry little Vincent would blame someone from the manor and wouldn’t talk to them for the rest of the day.
  • They were very close while they grew up. Vincent liked to play tricks on the servants or on guests and Frances always gave him an alibi. Since she was very convincing and acted like a proper lady from a young age on everyone believed her, so Vincent almost never got caught. That’s how rumors of a ghost inside the Phantomhive manor arose and this ghost was blamed for the tricks that Vincent pulled. Only Tanaka and Claudia knew the truth.
  • Vincent was often present when Frances trained her sword fighting but he always pretended to be unimpressed so that Frances would try even harder. But secretly Vincent admired her for her skills. In the beginning Frances fell for it and wanting to impress her big brother she trained hard and became better and better. Later, she knew that Vincent only wanted her to become stronger in order to defend herself but she never told him that she knew. ^^
  • When Vincent started to go to Weston they would write each other letters in a secret code they had invented.
  • When Claudia died Vincent wanted to be the one to tell Frances. He wanted to be able to console her but in the end it was Frances who consoled him. Their bond grew even stronger afterwards and Frances even helped him from time to time with his job as the Queen’s Watchdog.
  • Vincent immediately liked Alexis when Frances introduced him and thought he was the perfect match for his sister. But as her big brother he thought it was expected of him to be wary of Alexis. So he pretended to disapprove of their relationship. Frances who saw through her brother was annoyed by him being difficult and made up her own plan. She told Vincent that he was right and that she would break her engagement to Alexis. Vincent was so shocked by that that he immediately admitted the truth and begged Frances not to abandon Alexis. Ever since, Vincent always praised Alexis whenever Frances was around. XD
  • Frances’ children Edward and Lizzy reminded Vincent of him and his sister. So after they were born Vincent didn’t allow Frances anymore to help with his job as the Watchdog since he was always reminded of what happened to their mother Claudia.
  • When Vincent was killed it was harder for Frances than when Claudia died. She still misses him and every time she goes to the Phantomhive manor she visits Vincent’s grave and brings his favorite flowers.

I hope you like them, Anon. :3 Have a nice day, as well!

Vincent headcanons

wattsyslaments:

@midnight-in-town had the great idea to celebrate the hottest (not just because of the fire) dad of the manga on his birthday so I made a few Vincent headcanons, because we see so little of him :/

He had a bad relationship with his father; the older Phantomhive was afraid of his own son’s ambition and hunger for knowledge and power. Because of this, Vincent wanted to have an especially close relationship with his own children

His name means “conquering” Those who loved him, knew how fitting it was. He conquered fears, people, prejudices, sometimes even himself.

He was on his way home from Germany when he saw a man preparing to shoot his dog, because it was disobedient. He bought the animal and gave it to Ciel as a birthday present. They tamed it together and named it Sebastian.

He couldn’t wait to have grandchildren to tell wild, unreal stories about how he was a fearless warrior in his youth, who wrestled with giants

Rachel called him ‘old’ when she wanted to annoy him

His first thought when he saw Rachel for the very first time was “God, I need those eyes in my family”

He was very cynical by nature, uncapable of falling in love at first sight. He fell for Rachel two months after their introduction, when the young woman beat him in chess.

When Rachel told him that she’s pregnant he hurried to Tanaka first to tell him. The old servant knew it already. Vincent wasn’t surprised

He always asked for Frances’ opinion before big decisions. He didn’t think that relying on his sister was a weakness; he knew that together they were unstoppable

He honestly believed that Ciel is a better version of himself.

Cielizzy headcanons

cielizzydefencesquad:

1) Ciel has a tendency to spoil Lizzy with lavish gifts, such as exquisite jewelry, the latest Parisian fashions, and sweets from Belgium and Switzerland. He does this out of guilt since he and Lizzy rarely spend any time together. As a result, Sebastian now has a secondary job as a purveyor of women’s fashion. Packages show up at the Midford estate so often that half of them are still unopened.

2) Lizzy and Ciel sometimes spend their afternoons reading together. In the beginning, they sat next to each other on the library sofa until one day Lizzy decided to read The Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire. This sparked a spirited debate between them on the abstract concepts of excess, decadence, and lust that eventually resulted in their first kiss—one that left Ciel stunned and Lizzy very, very embarrassed.

3) Once, after returning from a mission for the queen, Ciel fell ill with pneumonia. Lizzy declared herself immune and sat by his bedside, putting cool washcloths on his forehead, making sure he drank enough water, and reading Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s epic poem Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie out loud to him. One of Ciel’s favorite lines from the poem is this: “Silently, one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven,/ Blossomed the lovely stars, the forget-me-nots of the angels.” To him, it represents a fleeting moment of tranquility, hope, and possibility.

4) Ciel tolerates Lizzy’s hugs because he likes her strawberry-daisy fragrance.

5) Lizzy remembers the birthdays of all the Phantomhive servants and always gives them a little present to commemorate the day. If she can’t stop by the manor, she sends them a postcard wishing them the very best followed by a cute little gift she hand wrapped herself. —> Since Sebastian doesn’t have a birthday, Lizzy celebrates his “birthday” on January 20th—the feast of Saint Sebastian, a martyr who was killed for his Christian beliefs by the emperor Diocletian.

6) Ciel and Lizzy like to play croquet together during the summer months. It’s one of the few physical activities that Ciel can play (and win) without Sebastian’s help.

7) While playing cards, Ciel’s respect for Lizzy increased exponentially after her slight of hand beat him in Schnapsen (a German point-trick game more commonly known as 66). Now, every Tuesday night, Lizzy comes over to Phantomhive Manor and they play cards until 11 (an indecently late hour, my goodness! So Ciel makes sure Sebastian escorts her back home safely). Sometimes they’ll invite Soma, Sieglinde, Joanne, and Cheslock but mainly, it’s just the two of them.

8) Lizzy and Ciel chose to learn Russian together because it’s a language neither of them knew; it was also an opportunity for the two of them to spend more time with each other. Ciel corrects Lizzy’s grammar and phrasing while Lizzy helps Ciel with his pronunciation. Both of them read books to help practice their Russian—Ciel began by reading Fyodor Dostoyevsky (he took a particularly liking to Crime and Punishment) while Lizzy indulged in Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace. —> After they got married, Lizzy and Ciel frequently spoke to each other in Russian, sometimes adding in a dash of French or Latin. As a result, Phantomhive Manor became quite the multicultural arena (and a place of great confusion for all the servants—except Sebastian).

9) Even though Ciel never became fond of dancing, he made an effort to escort Lizzy to more balls and parties after he learned that other noblemen had been flirting with her. Several of those hapless gentleman would wind up with serious injuries when leaving said party—such as one of them tripping over a misplaced bullet and tumbling down the stairs, breaking his arm, bruising his ribs, and suffering a concussion. Odd.

10) Sebastian wound up coordinating their wedding and was nicknamed “bridezilla” by everyone involved. Exhibit A:

“You call this Chantilly lace? This looks like a scrap of fabric with holes in it!”

“I knew humans were incapable of a great deal but never once have I ever encountered someone so constantly inept. I wanted gardenias with a hint of pink. A hint. Something that conjures up the image of a lady’s first blush. But this, this bouquet would be a disgrace even in hell!”

*Looks at violinists* “I’ve never been faced with a dilemma so difficult. You have all been hailed as the best violinists in Western Europe and yet here I stand, being forced to choose the least terrible amongst you inadequate, tone-deaf monarchs of the mediocre. In fact, leave. Just leave. I’ll play the bridal march myself.”

“Where is the wedding cake? Where is the—of all damnation, THAT’S the wedding cake? It looks like a sofa Baldroy set on fire.”

*Inspecting the flower girl* “No, no—her walk is pitiful and her gap-toothed smile ruins the atmosphere.”

“A church? You expect my young master to get married in a church? Well this is just preposterous—how am I, the wedding coordinator, supposed to supervise the event if he’s getting married in a church? Why wasn’t I informed of his radical venue choice? Was it my intern? Did my intern forget to inform me? A church?

Alexis Leon Midford headcanons

cielizzydefencesquad:

Requested by Anonymous 🙂

After graduating from Weston in 1870, Alexis’s father—Lord Alexander Midford—sent his son to Landau, Germany to serve under Crown Prince Frederick of Prussia in the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71)**. For nine months, Alexis disregarded finery and instead ate, trained, and fought alongside his fellow soldiers despite his elevated status as a quasi-English “ambassador.”

In September 1870, Alexis participated in the Battle of Sedan. There, Alexis not only showed unfailing courage and resolve but also prudence, control, and a sort of level-headed cool that inspired praise from the crown prince himself. While under heavy artillery fire, Alexis deftly outmaneuvered the Army of Châlons’ cavalry to drag two of his comrades—and a wounded French solider—to safety. (“In war there are casualties, yes, but there is also human decency, mutual respect, and the constant reminder that civilization must not crumble in the face of gunfire. I have never found it necessary to kick a man while he’s down and, in any case, how did that old saying go? You can learn more from your enemy while he’s alive than when he’s six feet under.”)

Even though Francis defeated Alexis at the national fencing championship, she fell in love with his valor, bravery, and staunch, infallible sense of honor and human decency. He was so unlike her own family who, while loving, were Machiavellian consorts of the cruelest kind.

Alexis loved having tea parties with Lizzy and her various “guests” (AKA, porcelain-faced dolls that cost a small fortune). He would always greet Lizzy and all her ladies with a bow and a compliment, pulling out their chairs and going along with whatever story Lizzy felt like telling.

Beneath that stern British knight veneer, Alexis is just one big softie—he’s a huge fan of arts and crafts, particularly glassblowing. When he first began courting Francis, he left her these elaborate and extremely beautiful glass figurines—a rose colored Juliet leaning against her balcony; Eros escorting Psyche to Olympus; Paris and Helen embracing. Vincent eventually got so curious he asked Francis where she was ordering these figurines from but, when she refused to tell him (because Vincent was being a nosy big brother), he decided to investigate himself. Imagine Vincent’s surprise when he discovered it was actually Alexis who was crafting these sculptures from the east wing of Midford Castle.

Alexis personally taught Edward lessons in tactical warfare and international diplomacy. (To help him learn, Alexis would set up extremely elaborate games of capture the flag using the Midford servants and his old military buddies, including high ranking major generals and renowned diplomats. Needless to say, Edward learned from the best.)

Alexis is a very talented gardner. His office is decorated with succulent plants, apple blossoms, and white gardenias. (Francis’s favorite flower.)

He is perfectly aware of the Phantomhive family heritage and their job as the Queen’s Watchdog. —> Before Vincent gave his consent, he sent Alexis on a wild goose chase, leaving cryptic clues and messages to see if his future brother-in-law was capable of keeping up with his sister’s quick intellect. He was mildly impressed by Alexis’s success—as well as Alexis’s strangely jovial and jocose personality. (“I’ve never encountered a man so…cheerful and optimistic. Tell me, is that a Midford thing?” — Vincent, describing his brother-in-law Alexis)

Alexis observes (and is aware of) many things. He just chooses not to give voice to it.

Alexis likes to snack on sunflower seeds. He once fell asleep with an open bag of them near his desk; Lizzy climbed up, sat in her father’s lap, and began gluing them to a piece of paper. Alexis awoke to find a sunflower seed portrait of the Midford crest glued to a piece of paper that turned out to be a letter from the prime minister. But rather than being upset, Alexis kept it as a testament of his daughter’s “innate sense of creativity” and, to this day, still keeps it in the topmost drawer of his desk.

Alexis used to give Edward piggyback rides around his playroom while his son pretended to be Arthur Wellesley, the man who defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

At one point, Alexis dreamed of becoming a pirate but then realized pirates disobeyed the British crown so instead, he become a military officer.

Alexis’s favorite food is shepherd’s pie. Unlike his wife and daughter, he doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth.

Alexis’s penmanship is absolutely beautiful—so beautiful, in fact, that her majesty wanted to make him her personal secretary. (He declined as he didn’t want to spend so much time at court and away from his family. Ironically, while Victoria is wily and underhanded, she actually admires Alexis’s morals and valiant sense of honor.)

Alexis was so proud when Edward was born that “it was definitely worth Francis nearly dislocating my hand from my wrist.” When Lizzy was born, Alexis called her “my most angelic miracle.”

Alexis knows how hard Lizzy works to try and make Ciel happy and he’s always there for her, supporting his daughter and giving her words of encouragement.

How Alexis deals with insults/slander. Insult him:

“Well, that’s just how some people are, I suppose!” *smiles cheerfully and goes about his merry way*

Insult his wife:

“You see, while I have always been of the opinion that one should state their thoughts freely and without judgement, I will now rescind that belief in favor of removing your head from your shoulders.”

Insult his son:

“Dear sir, I must give you my greatest sympathies and condolences—it must be absolutely wretched to live life as an idiot.”

Insult his daughter:

Alexis: “I’m afraid that appointment of yours has now been cancelled.”

“What do you mean?”

Alexis: “Her majesty does not converse with dead and decaying corpses. En garde!”

**The royal family (during the Victorian era) was actually more German than English. Queen Victoria’s mother was a German born princess and Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, was also German. Furthermore, Victoria’s eldest daughter (also named Victoria) married Crown Prince Frederick of Prussia so this headcanon of Alexis going to study under German generals during the Franco-Prussian War fits in with the international relations of the Victorian era.

Edward Midford headcanons

cielizzydefencesquad:

– His full name is Edward Vincent Alexis Midford.

– Edward’s best subjects are geography, geometry, moral philosophy, and history. He is a capable military man (specializing in artillery and arms) and, despite his rash behavior around Lizzy, is a studious, mature student.

– He only becomes irrational and hyper-protective around his sister. Alone, Edward is polite, courteous, eloquent, and perceptive.

– Some of Edward’s heroes include Arthur Wellesley, 1st duke of Wellington; Otto von Bismarck; Prince Rupert of the Rhine; and, of course, John Churchill, 1st duke of Marlborough.

– He has a greater degree of respect for the capabilities of women than most Victorian men because of his mother and sister. Some of his favorite philosophers are female, including Hypatia, Margaret Cavendish, and Elisabeth of Palatine (who influenced the work of famed French philosopher René Descartes.)

– Edward prefers English cuisine above all others. (To keep in touch with his English knight motif.)

– His favorite scent is that of freesias and fresh morning dew—crisp, clean, and sweetly floral. It is the scent his mother wears and one that Edward has grown accustomed to. (As a result, he dislikes it when women clod on perfume and instead, prefers subtlety.)

– He suspects that Sebastian is not entirely human but does not want to make accusations without concrete proof and due cause.

– He is immensely worried about Lizzy’s engagement to Ciel because he recognizes the signs of PTSD, repression, and obsession in his cousin.

– On his fifteenth birthday his father gifted him with his own fruit farm in Kent. This later became one of Edward’s secret passions—he loves cultivating fruit and is an amateur botanist. (As a marquess, Alexis would’ve owned various estates and properties throughout England.)

– Edward is an avid and highly skilled sailor.

– He enjoys studying oceanography, environmental science, and scientific philosophy.

– Unlike Ciel, Edward is a top-notch athlete who—while not as good as Lizzy—is a skilled fencer himself.

– Both Francis and Rachel thought Ciel was going to be a girl and planned to marry her to Edward. As such, Elizabeth was intended for either a duke or foreign prince. This is part of the reason why Edward dislikes the betrothal between Ciel and Lizzy—if not for him, Lizzy could’ve escaped her Phantomhive heritage and been safe somewhere else.

– Edward isn’t a very big drinker but enjoys the occasional glass of brandy.

– Even though Edward’s personal life isn’t talked about in Kuro canon, Alexis has been refining his son’s list of potential brides since Edward was around seven years old.

– His favorite color is forest green—a deep, rich verdure with a hint of wildness that is concealed by the majesty and decadence of the dark emerald hue.

– He has met Sieglinde Sullivan once and is unaware of her slight crush on him.

– He plans to go to the University of Oxford, just like his father and paternal grandfather before him.

– Edward is very interested in the United States and will spend the summer of 1890 touring the east coast.

– Edward is a competent concert pianist but his true talent lies in composing preludes.

Alexis: You are the sunshine of my life! You alone reign in my heart, without you life is but a dreary cloud.

Francis: Is this a proposal or a weather report?

Vincent @Alexis be like

image

((Btw I totally have this headcanon that Frances started to like Alexis back without anyone besides him noticing at first, so whenever there would be other people with them, they’d be all distant and snarky at each other on purpose to make sure no one would catch on but, afterwards, Alexis would always find a way to sneak back without anyone else around to give her a light kiss on the cheek))

((and then Alexis kinda got way ahead of himself and suddenly went to ask Vincent for his sister’s hand one day, and Vincent went like “lmao bitch u thought” because he was dead certain that Frances wanted nothing to do with Alexis, until Frances proved him dead wrong by kissing Alexis right in front of anyone and agreeing to his proposal))
