last post on the subject i swear but basically i always liked “Ciel” because in French the meaning is both “sky” and “heaven” and, well, the poor boy’s soul is damned to end in a demon’s stomach so i found that to be pretty ironic and poetic at the same time

it just hardly works with Astre, sorry not sorry, but it’s the truth. Astre is this word hardly anyone uses in French, because, generally we call the sun “sun” and stars “stars”. It is used when it comes to deviners saying they’ll read your fortune, or even probably in very specific/specialized circles, buuuuut i mean, again, where is the poetry in this?

Even Lizzie being called “Soleil” (Sun) because she’s got such a bright smile and is like a ray of sunshine would at least be more meaningful at this point.

it’s like the main character from Berserk: a lot of people who don’t know the story find his name ridiculous but it’s actually plot relevant and an extremely mean joke by his violent and very abusive adoptive father because of the circumstances in which he found him as a baby.

So i’m all for a meaningful name for main characters, even if they’re unusual names. it’s just… there are other ways to give our!Ciel a name fitting the sky theme, besides Astre, if that’s what Sensei is after. So that’s why personally i’m very meh on the idea.

I wonder if the name reveal could happen by seeing OC’s name on a grave at the end of the flashback 🤔 It would be very dramatic.

akumadeenglish:

I agree! That would be indeed very dramatic particularly since this whole flashback started with RC’s question to OC “Why did you lie to everyone and pretend to be me?”.

Anyways, I can see four possibilities for the timing of OC’s name reveal:

  • the scene where RC gets taken to the altar (this seems like a reasonable timing for RC to finally call his little brother by his name)
image
  • OC reading his own name on his own tomb in either one of these scenes at the end of the current flashback (I love your idea!!)
image
  • a shinigami reads OC’s real name aloud when OC dies in the very final chapter of Kuro
image
  • we never get to know OC’s name

Do think OC’s real name starts with ‘C’ too? A French name that starts with C.

Hello Anon! Well, I like two names in particular for our!Ciel, which means basically that I’m pretty much neutral towards every other ideas and I dislike every name that is actually a noun, especially when it’s in French. xD

Like, Astre? Worst idea ever and I hope that’s really not his name. Mer, Terre, Sol, Enfer, I saw all these going around (not as jokes sometimes, unfortunately) and they’re definitely awful, still in my opinion. At least Ciel, even if it is a noun, has the rather usual “-iel” ending that can be found in other real names.

Anyway, even though I don’t think Yana will reveal his real name anytime soon because “Ciel Phantomhive” will become his identity again before long…

as I was saying I like two names for his real identity:

And that’s about it for me for meaningful ideas, at least for now. :3 As I said though, I just don’t think we’re going to learn his name soon, because “Ciel Phantomhive” is too iconic for the general public, so I doubt Yana will give us his real name until the very end of Kuro.

I hope it answers your question! Have a nice day Anon 🙂

What do you think of Orion for OC’s name? It would fit the sky theme and the twin being called Sirius?

Hello 🙂 Well, anything fitting the sky theme will always be better than Astre or a random French word trying to pass as a name in my opinion, so Orion >>>> Astre. xD

Besides, as you said it does fit with the twin being referred to as “Lord Sirius” and I also like it since Orion was a hunter in Greek mythology and so, as the Queen’s watchdog, it does suit our!Ciel to some extent!

TL;DR

  1. Cedric
  2. Orion
  3. John
  4. Covfefe (thanks to @dorkshadows)
  5. Merde, Astre, Ciel II, Etoile…… you get the drift xD

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and have a nice weekend Anon!
