so do I understand it right that the washuu/CCG fed human flesh and stole dead human bodies from public cemeteries?? THATS A HUGE FUCKED UP OMG…(That throws me more back than eto being back)

coromoor:

not just public cemeteries, but eating the fallen CCG Investigators too!

This really highlights Urie’s feelings over Shirazu’s death

ALL of the CCG have been mourning empty graves.

this whole time, Akira and Amon have most likely been talking to Mado’s empty grave.

Honestly, I feel like THIS over everything is what is gonna turn the CCG towards changing the way of the world rather than an empty promise of an alliance with ghouls. Not being able to mourn their loved ones properly is something they can sympathise with ghouls over.

IM SO EXCITED AT THIS MENTION

If they’ve been gorging Yoshimura on blood in a Lab deep within the CCG to make Owl Quinques, you know who else had some sort of medium mentioned?

someone who was also name dropped this chapter

LETS GO

the “gorging on blood” also reminds me of the Sphinx Liquid we’ve yet to get around to explaining!

perhaps this is what they’re being fed?

echo-from-the-void:

I think Furuta managed to craft a pretty interesting trick with the kagune monsters. For years the tactic that was used by the CCG was the slaughter of ghouls. They were killed and then turned to weapons, but it seems that a ghoul populace of some sort should always remain, since the Washuu needed an a reason to validate their position, need and reason in society.

However, what Furuta has done is that he seems to have turned this basic tactic upside down. The more you kill and use violent means (at least by normal people who are affected by the poison), the more ghouls are produced into the world.

image

It`s the amount of humans that will actually decline. It`s like this makes the earlier method of dealing with the ghouls seems like a complete laughing stock. Maybe this is a problem that is not solved by killing? Of course if Kaneki is not affected by the poison as it seems, and since these creatures pose a threat, then maybe this matter needs to be dealt with old fashioned ways. Still, I feel like Furuta is mocking the old militant approaches the CCG and Washuu took against ghouls.

Also, while I think Furuta was just kidding and playing around, I find it interesting that he seems to treat these monsters like people on some level. The people in the hospital treating people who are turning into ghouls, seemed to avert their eyes when the person turned into a ghoul. I might be overthinking this, but I just find it amusing and interesting that Furuta is interviewing a monster like it was the average joe from the street, while some folks seem to stop treating people as persons and normal, as soon as they are turned into ghouls.

image
image

A bit like how Urie was ready to kill that person in the last chapter because she was a ghoul, but stopped when it was realized that her origin was human.

image

Of course it`s possible that my interpretation of that scene is totally incorrect, and the nurse is not averting her eyes, and in reality that angle is really just from behind her. Someone is reaching for her, from her behind, and that is probably the biting incident that Kimi described.

About the message of the last anon, the one speaking that does not like Amon and Akira because they put themselves in the moral top of the story and think that all the others are wrong(don’t worry anon, this is not supposed to be an hate answer to you, it’s a question to Hamliet). Does not Kaneki do the same thing? Sorry, but all his time as King to me was him saying that all humans and ghouls are wrong and he was right with what he wanted to do and that he know the way to fix everything.

hamliet:

Yes, he does! I addressed that in my answer. It’s another parallel between Kaneki and Amon and Akira–they all think of themselves as better than. I’m going to quote this meta I wrote on Kaneki and apply it to Amon and Akira with some adaptations:

Kaneki absolutely loathes himself. He sets up seemingly hypocritical
boundaries like “killing ghouls fine, killing humans no, but I’m the
ghoul king” because it’s literally the only way he can live with
himself. It’s a maladaptive coping mechanism. He does not believe he’s
worth love if he isn’t good enough, if he isn’t kind enough…

Amon sets up this “I’m a ghoul investigator and so are you Takizawa!” boundary in order to save Takizawa, even though they are both ghouls and they are both murderers at this point so there is no logic in that argument. But it’s how he lives with himself. Being a ghoul investigator was probably his way of paying back what happened with Donato as a child, of him atoning for it really–but he can’t.

Amon cannot forgive himself. And furthermore he cannot face himself. He’s fighting with the other humans and didn’t tell them he was a ghoul even though that might have actually helped convince the CCG to work with ghouls. He doesn’t want to accept his ghoul nature for the same reason Kaneki has a hard time accepting it: because to admit that he has been turned into the creature responsible for his trauma as a child, known only for killing (though that’s inaccurate) is terrifying for him. He does not want to be Donato 2.0, and by running from becoming Donato 2.0 by becoming a ghoul investigator, he teamed up with Mado (aka Donato 2.0) and became Donato 3.0. It’s tragically ironic.

As for Akira, love has always been caught up in her father since her mother died when she was so young. And Mado always viewed himself as justified killing ghouls because of what happened to Akira’s mother. So therefore love for Akira has always been tied up in having a purpose to live, and that purpose has always been tied to killing ghouls. Without that hatred, as she herself says, she’s empty. Additionally, Akira is struggling with the same black and white worldview Kaneki sets up: if ghouls are the same as humans, then she and her father are murderers, and if they are murderers and their purpose for living was wrong, do they deserve to live at all? If her father was a sadistic child murderer, how can he also be a kind father to her? (Which he was, btw.) The answer is because it’s gray, it’s all gray, but Akira is struggling to accept this.

Amon and Akira are hurting children internally as well, just like Kaneki. But that doesn’t excuse what they are doing by pretending to be better, because pretending is never a path to self-actualization. Enter Donato. And Takizawa.

I mean, the whole thing is that Takizawa also has many issues of his own that he needs to solve, because he doesn’t see himself as deserving of much for example, despite being the only one of their little trio who actually moved on from the past and accepted his new condition (even if that meant making it his punishment at the same time by letting go of Akira and Amon).

It’s as you said @hamliet: Amon and Akira are struggling to let go of the past because they’re scared of what consequences and changes their awareness about the world’s situation will bring to them.

So I really think Takizawa is supposed to be the one (the hero) making them realize that moving on and acceptance are okay (and that it doesn’t make Amon anything remotely close to Donato or Akira the worst person ever), while they’ll reassure him that he still has a place to belong.

Do you think :re is ending with volume 15? :/

Hi Anon! Okay so, vol15 is ending with ch164 at most, so considering how Sensei is taking his time with bringing Kaneki

back, if ch164 is somehow the final chapter of :Re then we’re in for a third part for sure. 🙂

See, taking V down is very probably going to take some time, a time Sensei still has if he decides to take :Re until ch204 in my opinion, but not if he stops at ch164. In fact, most of TG’s villains so far have been about taking V down (and breaking “the equilibrium”) from the very beginning…

  • Kanou and Furuta teamed up a while ago in order to do that,
  • Kanou experimented with Rize and then joined Aogiri while Furuta joined the Clowns
  • Eto assisted Kanou in making more artificial OEGs (Amon, Seidou), to see who could inherit Arima’s position of the OEK when the time would be right
  • meanwhile Arima was keeping a close eye over Kaneki, with the same idea in mind as Eto
  • Furuta helped V destroy the Washuus so that he could also become the head of the CCG in order to turn Kaneki into Dragon…
  • …which then forced ghouls and humans to ally for the very first time in order to stop him.

So now that it’s probably going to be up to Kaneki and the rest of the cast to take V down next…

image

…you can be sure it will take a few more volumes after ch164, especially since we don’t know yet the real extent and influence that this organization possesses, since it encompassed the whole Washuu family.

So if Sensei ends :Re before Kaneki and the rest of the cast completely take V down, then I think a third part will be needed in order to finish everything (even if it doesn’t have to be as long as TG or :Re of course), but that’s just my opinion.

Actually, third part or not, in the end it’s about giving us all the answers and development before ending the story. 🙂 Sensei choosing to do this in :Re or in yet another sequel is not particularly important as long as he finishes what he started!

TL;DR maybe :Re ends with ch164, I have no way to be sure of that right now, but Sensei is definitely not ending Tokyo Ghoul with :Re ch164.

I hope it makes sense! Please have a nice day Anon. :))

I have to wonder whether this was the first time Mutsuki has EVER spoken about the abuse. Because it seemed like Mutsuki immediately repressed everything after being taken into custody, mourning the loss and crying over the family that is now described as horrible. And when mortally wounded during the Auction, Mutsuki thought of wanting to be with/see them again.

So it seems like Mutsuki has been bottling this secret up from the beginning. A lifetime of lying to people about what was happening, pretending everything was okay, and never admitting out loud that anything was wrong.

Now, finally, Mutsuki screams and rages about having been born into a horrible environment. Finally says THESE PEOPLE WERE HORRIBLE. Finally admits to being broken, and hurt, and so angry, and lost.

Anyone that has gone through dealing with trauma knows that is an important first step. Just…..giving voice to those things. Admitting that it exists. Telling other people about it.

Mutsuki finally stopped lying, and showed all the ugliness and pain to them. But instead of the death that Mutsuki seemed to want so much, Saiko and Urie offered acceptance and forgiveness. That’s an enormous thing.

THIS

i know a hug and kiss won’t solve everything, but i don’t think every issue and character flaw will be addressed before the series is done. so if a hug and kiss does solve a lot of things, i won’t be mad. thoughts?

harostar:

hamliet:

Iiiiiiii think most have to be addressed. I don’t mind if hugs and kisses accompany like, actual talks rather than sweeping it under the rug. We saw what sweeping it under the rug and and hugs, kisses, and sex resulted in: Dragon. It didn’t solve Kaneki’s issues so I don’t think it’s gonna solve anyone else’s.

They’re not gonna be flawless by the end, but I think they at least need to like, name those flaws. Mutsuki’s actually doing pretty well by that. And importantly, he said something incredibly telling:

He’s associated the Quinx surgery with the violations Torso and his father did to his body and what he did to others. In other words, he does see the CCG as an abuser.

Others need to move in this direction.

This is a really good point, and interesting because we have never been told the circumstances or reasons for Mutsuki to have the surgery.

Shirazu needed the money.

Saiko was sold by her mother.

Urie wanted more power.

But Mutsuki’s motivations were never explored. And now we have Mutsuki comparing the surgery to other violations and wishing for death.

You know I was thinking… since Mutsuki said a ghoul killed their family but the CCG clearly didn’t believe that, maybe they gave Mutsuki an ultimatum?

Something like “you can be a CCG investigator and fight against ghouls but only if you do the Qs experiment”?? In that case it’d be no wonder Mutsuki compares it to the other bad things in their life. Poor kiddo. :///

kingkishou:

So it sounds like V’s prerogative is to keep humans and ghouls from cooperating, most likely bc such a large chunk of the worldwide economy thrives on the constant killing and imprisonment of ghouls.

If you think about it, most of the times their agents have appeared has been when the Washuu’s “taboo” was threatening to resurface, or when humans and ghouls were working together.

It makes sense that V wanted Eto– but probably more that they wanted her dead. As a one-eyed ghoul borne of a mother who knew their secrets, she was a danger to their continuation of power. I bet Furuta tipped them off that she’d escape Cochlea, hence why he gave her food and appeared moments before she crashed through the wall of the compactor facility (and hence why he didn’t finish her off).

It also clears up the discrepancy between Kaiko stating that the Washuu’s blood was “in the way” and the fact that Matsuri said that the Washuu’s secret couldn’t get out.

V couldn’t find the route of the leak, so they opted to take out the content of the leak instead. No Washuu, No Norries.

So in an assbackwards way (much like “freeing” Eto), Matsuri is off to “thank” V for bringing about this massive change to the playing field. A lot has been exposed about Matsuri’s bitterness towards his family through the reveal of his sexuality, and I still think the iconic removal of his suit has been symbolic of being freed of the hegemonic hetero-masculinity that his position as an heir to the CCG requires.

(ie: admitting he loves Urie– another man– and again when he wanted to live to see him again)

So anyway, I’m guessing that V is going to flood the CCG to rip apart the human-ghoul alliance that’s currently taken place, and forcefully interrogate those who know how to destroy and/or cover up Kaneki because

if this became public knowledge, the CCG’s design would be shrouded in scandal and V’s control would begin to crumble.

I think people are jumping to conclusions saying the conflict between ghouls and humans is now solved. Sure, that’s what it seems to be, but there are a lot of lies, half-truths and hidden feelings going on. I dare to say Saiko is the only one being 100% sincere, she always seemed concerned about fighting ghouls and wondered if the CCG was really the right side, and this is the first time she is speaking up to her beliefs. And we can’t forget the Clowns, V, Mutsuki/Aura and Kaneki himself.

midnight-in-town:

But Anon, who said that the conflict is solved? The current situation is called a temporary common front and, as @captainhunterman proposed here, there is still a possibility that the plan will not go 100% well.

The way I see it, this “alliance” is a test and no one is trusting the side opposite to theirs yet (obviously).
So the two sides certainly won’t mix, but they might respect the fact that they’re linked by a common goal (=> stopping Dragoneki) and that’s how the status quo might hold… that is to say, as long as the operation goes favorably.

there are a lot of lies, half-truths and hidden feelings going on.

I agree! I think a few characters are 100% genuine, like Hide, Akira, Amon, Saiko, as well as Touka, Nishiki, Tsukiyama and the other ghouls we know, because they’re going for Kaneki’s sake…

image

…but the rest of the CCG? They’re going because Juuzou apparently agreed to the common front:

image

And even if I love him a lot, I do have my doubts about what he really meant by “it will be easier that way”, since as you said, a 100 year old conflict can’t exactly be solved in 18 pages (not that Juuzou has any particular animosity towards ghouls, but surely a lot of investigators following him still do).

In my opinion, the human/ghoul conflict will truly be solved the day coexistence will be considered as possible, which is to say, the day ghouls at least find an alternative food source. Until then, it’s only a temporary common front (and a tensed one at that), because the CCG wants to avoid more human casualties while ghouls want their king back.

I hope it helps! Have a nice day Anon. 🙂

image

Hi Anon! Well, it’s for a simple reason really.

image

As I said above, I think a few investigators are genuine and really want to help Kaneki out of this situation, both to minimalize casualties and to save him, but that certainly isn’t the case of most of the CCG.

There is a reason why investigators trust in and follow Juuzou, who’s currently the most reliable investigator because he is the strongest and seen as Arima 2.0. Juuzou’s personal feelings aside though, what should be the natural conclusion to the current situation, from any random CCG investigator’s point of view?

We’re going to stop that thing once and for all…

image

…to save the city.”

So does this mean that, still from a random investigator’s point of view, Kaneki gets to walk free after that, now that the CCG is aware of how extremely dangerous he can turn out to be?

That’s why I don’t trust the CCG overall. Ghouls are in to save their king: they will play fair to help saving Kaneki, whereas most of the CCG might think that they will cooperate with ghouls to find Kaneki, only to eliminate him just after to make sure he will never transform into such a thing again.

That’s also why I don’t think this chapter was ever supposed to imply that the conflict is solved => because the two sides might not want the same ending to the current situation and thus we may face an issue between humans and ghouls once again, with Kaneki in the middle of it all.

Of course, before anyone asks, I don’t think Kaneki will die. Rather, he will probably show how useful he can be, once the main big bad (V most likely) will rise up and humans and ghouls will have to fully accept the alliance, for real this time.

TL;DR I trust the investigators whom I know are genuine about saving Kaneki, but “temporary common front” means that the status quo between humans and ghouls will most likely hold until they find Kaneki. Then, surely, they’ll disagree again.

I hope it helps, have a nice day Anon!

The Tower that Refuses to Crumble

linkspooky:

The Death of the CCG has been predicted since the beginning of this Oggai/24th ward arc. Ironically, by one of it’s most loyal and steadfast investigators and the one who orchestrated it’s resurgence and rebirth when it was at it’s weakest point.

Yet we see, all of the members of the CCG left in the cast, not acting as if the CCG is responsible for this situation and on it’s last legs, but rather as if it’s the one whose going to solve the dragon crisis despite the fact that it caused it. If you’re just as confused as I am about the CCG’s role in things, read under the cut.

@linkspooky

I liked your post, but I think that where I mostly started to agree with it is when you demonstrated how Marude and the CCG basically didn’t learn anything from Furuta (though I’m guessing the fact that he allied with Matsuri to take Furuta down is at least a progress in itself).

It’s a fact though, most of the CCG didn’t learn anything over 27+ volumes and that’s probably why Furuta didn’t mind one bit about slaughtering a large part of them into the plan to trigger Dragoneki’s apparition, because they’re not the main way to change this world, Kaneki is.

Similarly, in the newest chapter…

image

…We’re faced with many ghouls who followed Kaneki cheering him on and singing his praise for “getting revenge for all of them”, when until Dragoneki, Kaneki never killed a single investigator because he wanted for ghouls and humans to be able to coexist.

And that’s my main point: aside from a few humans on the CCG’s side and a few ghouls on Kaneki’s side, coexistence is still lost to both sides as the solution to a conflict that lasted for over a century

because they can’t seem to ever be learning.
That’s why I think that the last part of Furuta’s plan wasn’t referring to Dragoneki himself…

image

…but rather to the final enemy that’s supposed to make them all “transcend the barrier of species”. So basically:

  • the CCG and ghouls will indeed join hands to defeat Kaneki => that’s Hide’s plan, I think he intends on using the few ghouls and CCG investigators who don’t want Kaneki dead to help him get out of the kakuja form within the next 72 hours (Akira, Amon, the Qs, Nishiki, Touka, Tsukiyama, Hina…).
  • And, when Kaneki is finally out, only then might the two sides finally learn something when the same monster that threatened them will surely defeat the “truly great enemy towering before them”…
image

…aka V.

Sorry to add on, I just found your post to be quite relevant of the current situation and in no way showing any confusion. 🙂 These people haven’t learnt because Kaneki needs to be helped first before he can show them the way against V, in my opinion.
