Hi Anon, no worries your English is great! And actually I already explained here.
To make this simple: Amaimon is neutral in the big Order vs Illuminati conflict, he’s just helping Mephisto with some stuff because he owes him (most likely because of his current vessel)…
…but he doesn’t care about whose side ends up winning.
Meanwhile, this is his reaction to Shiemi:
and to Mephisto once he confronted him about finally realizing about Shiemi’s powers:
So Amaimon’s anger in the scene above is not related to Shiemi but to Mephisto: he’s mad that Mephisto didn’t tell him sooner about Shiemi + he’s most likely also mad about the fact that Mephisto definitely intends on making him choose a side in this conflict (”you have little free time left”), despite the fact that Amaimon considers himself neutral.
And what conclusion does this lead you to? Amaimon wanted to stay neutral but now that he has realized about Shiemi’s powers, he knows that he won’t be able to just be an observer => so whoever Shiemi is, she’s basically the chain now locking Amaimon on the Order’s side.
I’m pretty sure you’re aware of all the theories about Shiemi and Shemihaza and it’s actually not very surprising to imagine a link between them and Amaimon who’s the King of Earth, especially when Shemihaza’s symbol is…
and Shiemi used to mention something called “the Garden of Amahara”.
Both Shemihaza and Amaimon come from Gehenna, we don’t know what kind of link they might have, but it could be that they’re pals or linked in some ways. And if that’s the case, then Shiemi being related to Shemihaza (being their host or nephilim) would mean that Amaimon’d have to keep an eye on her (either because that’s important to him or because he has no choice in the matter).
So I really don’t think Amaimon is in to hurt Shiemi: he already kicked her during the fight against Yukio & Satan, so we know he should give 0 care and yet now he’s angry after realizing who she is. To me that implies he’s clearly going to (have to) change his way of behaving towards her, whatever the reason is.
Also, I have to say this: the current arc is rather complicated and the main trio Rin/Shiemi/Yukio got blasted into three different directions (Yukio & Illuminati, Rin & the past, Shiemi & the Grigori). That’s why, before they can all meet again, they’ll first need the help of other characters and we may end up with Amaimon being quite relevant to Shiemi’s personal arc before the others catch up.
I hope this makes sense, please read the post I linked to, it may have additional explanations! Have a nice day Anon. :))
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH, could it be why???
Shemihaza seems to be the Grigori most involved with Section 13 (and look at what Lucifer is saying: “give me hope too”), so assuming that the theories about Shiemi having a link to them are true, maybe Amaimon is indebted towards Shemihaza the same way he feels indebted to Mephisto and is “helping him out” (because of the vessel he gained from Section 13)?
That could explain why he got mad at Mephisto upon realizing too late who Shiemi seemed to be, because he should have never treated her so roughly or something, since he owes her whole lineage???
It works no matter if Shiemi is a nephilim of Shemihaza or their next host. Just an idea. :3

I think it’s becoming more and more likely that this guy could be Shiemi’s father, since the age range seems to match in the flashback with Shiro and Yuri who are (barely) teenagers. Him being her father would also explain why he said…
even if she doesn’t remember him.
In that case, I guess we could consider that the man following Shemihaza
in the flashback
(who most likely is Shiemi’s grandma) could be Shiemi’s grandfather?
My point is that, while we don’t know from where all these men come, if her father and grandfather were both Grigori following “Shemihaza” around, then it sounds like Shiemi could already have a future husband/father for her own child ready from the same group as these guys.
And that could explain why she said this upon realizing her feelings for Rin:
Initially I thought she was talking about being taken away by the Grigori or about the complicated situation around Yukio and Rin, but then again, when she told her friends that she wouldn’t become an exorcist, she mentioned that she would still help from her shop, meaning she’d still be around to some extent.
So unfortunately, it may really be about Shiemi having no say in her own future, to the point of not even being able to choose who she wants to be with.
In a previous post about Rin/Shiemi amongst other dynamics, I mentioned that it shouldn’t be a coincidence that Rin thought he was rejected while Shiemi ended up realizing about her feelings for him and being unable to do anything about them because “it’s too late”.
So if Sensei did this on purpose, that means we’re in for more drama @ the Rin/Shiemi ship, guys, with Shiemi becoming like a (powerful) bird in a cage locked by the Grigori (+ I imagine they wouldn’t want their precious Shemihaza’s host/nephilim/etc to get too romantically involved with Satan’s son and ultimate vessel anyway).
Hopefully, best wingman Izumo will most likely be able to vouch for Shiemi’s feelings to Rin at some point and from there something will happen. 😀 Oh and there is still Amaimon to consider, because he seemed really pissed upon realizing that Mephisto didn’t tell him about who Shiemi was.
From ch86: the power structure of Gehenna was addressed in the omakes of the same volume (19)…
but I love how Sensei managed to visually represent the current conflict between the Illuminati and the True Cross’ Order in Mephisto’s discussion with Lightning and Suguro.
As expected, considering the flowchart from the omakes, neither Amaimon or Beelzebub were represented on that page of ch86, because they’re not interested/not choosing any side (although personally I believe this is starting to change with Amaimon, as I discussed here).
Similarly, the Okumura twins (the wild cards) aren’t shown either, most likely because we needed Yukio to find out about his eyes and to leave the Order behind as a result (and besides if you remember, Lucifer was always willing to give Rin back to Samael, probably because of that “deal” with Satan, while he mentioned being interested by Yukio, so the current layout makes sense)!
Nothing new, but just to point out that Sensei’s way to illustrate when she’s foreshadowing is truly interesting!
It’s so nice to reread the series and come across this cover again, because I always wondered if the layout of Mephy’s little pawns on his right hand was meaningful or just random/for the aesthetic.
However seeing the current arc, I’m almost sure that this was drawn like this on purpose, which makes it even better!
Look, look, first of all you’ve got Rin and Yukio facing each other and this could really be depicting how Yukio just left his brother and the Order to join the Illuminati, as well as the on-going conflict (mostly from Yukio’s perspective) that led to this decision.
Mephy was totally expecting such an event after all, he even deliberately worked for it, finally pushing Yukio to his limits in ch94.
However, as it is, Rin remains on the Order (or more simply remains Mephy’s trump card) while Yukio moved on to join Lucifer and the Illuminati.
Then Shiemi and Amaimon: starting with Shiemi on the cover of ch44, she’s on “Rin’s side”, as if supporting him, and then again it makes sense for several reasons.
Shiemi is the one (with Suguro) who warned Rin that something was really wrong with Yukio in the current arc.
In fact, she used to be closer to Yukio (knowing him for a longer time and all), but his inner conflict ever since the Kyoto arc led him to slowly get estranged from her while Rin grew closer to Shiemi instead.
This leads to why the current blossoming romance is Rin/Shiemi and not Yukio/Shiemi, despite Yukio and Shiemi having better odds at the beginning of the series (I want to expand on that but in another post about shipping in AnE in general once I’ve reread the whole series).
Another reason to “Shiemi being on Rin’s side” could be her own part of the current arc, since…
after finally admitting that she’s got feelings for him (and not Yukio, sorry my boy, long ago I was vouching for you guys), she’s taken by the Vatican for a matter that’s most likely related to Shemihaza.
So Shiemi is in love with Rin and also remains on the Order’s side, even if this is probably not as willingly as it appeared to be in ch99.2.
In fact, since she chose to drop becoming an exorcist after the talk with her mom and despite her initial wishes, it’s pretty clear that her character’s arc will have to address what she really wants for her future and, since we’ve established in different parts of the story that a part of the Order is rotten anyway, this will probably be related.
This is where Amaimon jumps in and again, the current arc might explain why he’s lurking behind Shiemi on the cover of ch44. Yeah, sure, Shiemi was his bride that he chose randomly to force Rin to attack him in an early arc, but lately…
it doesn’t seem to be such a random narrative (or related to Rin/Shiemi) choice after all.
The “Shiemi has a link to Shemihaza” theories have been going strong for a while now, with Shemihaza who was described to be “the emperor of creation”
while Amaimon is a Baal, but more precisely the King of Earth.
only being involved so far in Mephy’s schemes because he owes his current vessel to Mephy.
And yet, this scene happened…
…which is giving me the feeling that either Shemihaza and Amaimon have a significant history or that Amaimon is pissed because maybe he shouldn’t have taken Shiemi in particular as his “bride” (I’d rather believe in the former though).
Nonetheless, I think we can safely expect Amaimon to be involved in Shiemi’s personal arc, whatever the reason for his outburst and anger was, and since both are related to Nature, I’m also wondering if we might not finally get another mention of the Garden of Amahara (maybe it was created by Amaimon and Shemihaza?). :))
Moving on, that leaves only Shura’s pawn on the cover of ch44, who’s in an interesting position since she’s backing up Yukio but at the same time facing Mephy. No surprise but there again, I think it’s related to the current arc.
First of all Mephy and Shura have this weird dynamic: she doesn’t trust him at all, but she plays by his rules when she knows it can’t be helped and he’s been edging her on down the road of becoming the #1 caretaker of the Okumura twins since 5ever. Please observe the development between ch34 and ch81:
What Mephy also did is that he made sure that the twins would be the ones who would solve the matter with Hachiro, which also helped Shura with moving on from Shiro…
…and which led to her saying something super important as a conclusion to her arc:
The reason it’s super relevant and interesting (and also the reason I believe it’s related to her position on the cover of ch44) is that Shura is also one of the few who can get Yukio to be 100% honest.
Sure, that led to them bickering all the time and Yukio saying that he always hated her, buuuut thanks to the Aomori arc, we know that’s far from being true.
Anyway, personally I had forgotten, but actually there was a time in AnE where Yukio was not full of angst (until he meets Todo), or so you could think because the truth is that he was just better at hiding everything behind his smiles, but anyway it never fooled Shura then…
and it’s still not fooling her.
So, now that Yukio completely broke down about everything…
…maybe Mephisto will give her an opportunity to go after him, or she’ll simply choose to go by herself. For now all she knows is that he escaped, she doesn’t know about the Illuminati yet, but when she finds out… she might just drop the Order (since she said she didn’t care) and chase after him, especially since the Illuminati also took what was left of Hachiro.
So she wouldn’t be on neither the Order’s side or the Illuminati’s: she’s on the twins’ side and she’s facing Mephy on the cover of ch44 because she knows he planned it all out and now she may have to go and try bringing Yukio back (whether Mephy offers his help/an opportunity or not though, we’ll see).
There you go! It’s all adding up, and obviously since it’s Mephy’s plan xD but I’m so happy Sensei went as far as to possibly plan it all out and leave little clues such as the cover of ch44. I just can’t wait to find out more. 😀
Sorry for the long post, it’s really a blast to reread the series!
is either meant in the sense that she’s super brave, strong, amazing and a true friend who doesn’t give a shit about Yukio being possessed by Satan, so the dude is impressed
or it’s meant to be a throwback to the fact that she’s not a regular human/exorcist.
Also maybe I’m reading way too much into this, but since Amaimon was watching over Shiemi several chapters ago when her mom told her that super important thing and she was very upset…
I wonder if him hitting her was not because she was interrupting Satan but rather because Amaimon didn’t want Satan to attack her?
If you remember the charts about Gehenna’s power structure from vol19, Amaimon considers himself to be neutral but follows Mephisto’s orders because he owes him. So, since I still doubt that Mephisto is really Satan’s ally considering that he seemed to be against Assiah’s destruction, I wouldn’t be surprised if Amaimon was supposed to be keeping an eye on Shiemi during the current crisis, by Mephisto’s orders.
After all, Mephisto releasing Amaimon at the beginning of this arc and making him a student in Shiemi’s class is probably not a coincidence either. So, all that to say that maybe that’s why Amaimon made her stop, because
he is supposed to keep her out of harm’s way but he isn’t strong enough to beat Satan if Satan/Yukio had decided to hurt Shiemi for getting in the way.
As I said though, maybe I’m reading way too much into this. xD Anyway, I loved this chapter!
Oh, great points! It’s true I only considered the situation for Shiemi, but yeah maybe you’re right and Amaimon’s intervention can be read as useful for both Rin and Yukio too, but useful as in “according to Mephy’s plans” surely. xD
I just meant to insist that Amaimon was probably tasked with keeping an eye on Shiemi in particular, and seeing Mephy, there must be a reason for that. He’s the perfect guy for the job anyway since his behavior (whether it was meant to protect her or not) didn’t particularly shock anyone considering that, you’re right, he’s generally not a nice guy (hence the reactions of Suguro and Izumo). xDD

And like everyone else, focused on the heart wrenching, “It doesn’t matter. I have no ties to this place.” But the important panel is the first one.
“You don’t get it! I’ll have Mephisto tell you the truth!”
This is significant for two reasons:
1) Rin believes that Yukio didn’t shot Mephisto. We know he didn’t because the angles were all wrong. Yukio couldn’t have shot Mephisto from where he was standing on stage, but Rin doesn’t know that. He just saw Yukio getting tackled on TV. He doesn’t know anything else. Why else would he take him to Mephisto unless he honestly believes he didn’t shoot him.
2) Mephisto is setting Yukio up! He wanted Yukio to join the Illuminati! It’s part of some kind of Batman Gambit to fuck with Lucifer (and/or Satan, who may or may not be on the same side as Lucifer. Look it’s complicated, but we need to focus!)
