TG Zakki Afterword+Misc. translation

drowning-in-theories:

sunset-towers (thank you!) has translated+posted the volume cover comments, the chapter cover comments 1&2, and magazine cover comments in Tokyo Ghoul Zakki. Sorry if it’s already done, but I’ve translated the afterword and a few gems in the commentary! Where possible I used the pictures already on Ishida’s official twitter.

Roughly colored Juuzous. They were drawn before his introduction and I think it was to get a better idea of his character design.

There are several different versions of the pre-publication draft, and in one of them he appears as Ghoul Investigator Suzuya along with Shinohara-san.

(bottom right) I was drawing him in the Tsukiyama arc too.

“A Tokyo Ghoul game will be released!” … was the April Fools joke I made these illustrations for.

With the deadline for the published series looming I studied Flash from scratch and went without sleep for 24 hours to complete these in time for an 4/1 reveal.

It was a private idea that gave my editor the scare of his life.

Afterwards I had only myself to blame as I worked to meet the serialization deadline fighting back tears. I regretted it deeply…

An Uta tattoo reference sheet I made for the anime staff.

The tattoos on his stomach have not been revealed yet. I wonder what he has on his back?

Afterword

Even though I’m focused on the art I’m doing at the time, once I’ve finished a piece I lose interest and hardly ever go back through them. As I look though the art* I’ve made over the 3 years of Tokyo Ghoul’s serialization I see ones that came out alright, or I worked on even if they were bad, or had struggles with, or really put my effort in, or was lazy about. All of them cam out with varying results, and as I think back I remember my ideas and prowess as an artist then… and of course the ever-present deadline.

After revisiting them I think each piece of art is made out of these various emotions and memories all intertwined.

If you enjoyed the illustrations along with my commentary of my private struggles I am happy.
