How likely is it for :re ending with Volume 16? It was brought up recently but V16 doesn’t have a release date, just summer which increases my suspicion that we’ll get more than 10 chapters before a wrap up. And with Kaneki heading underground which will no doubt be a big moment, I’m anticipating him becoming the Nameless King after this, maybe with a revived Dragon? Not to mention all the other parallels like this Etoish Dragon falling from the sky, the Clowns resurgence, the rooftop talk. 1/2

Hello Anon and HAHA I just knew I should have reblogged that explanatory post by @hamliet because people are confused and her thoughts are similar to mine on the subject. xD

Anyway, no worries, :Re won’t end in vol16, or if it does then it’s because there is a third part coming up. :)) Without mentioning the thing about 206 chapters, there is overall way too much left to tackle for the story to end in ten or twelve chapters!

Moving on, I think I know which illustration you’re talking about for Kaneki, in fact Ishida-sensei drew a few more [x] and yes, I think this could have to do with the Nameless King, thanks to the new marks under his eyes, even if overall it depends on what that ‘Nameless King’ title represents (hopefully something different from the OEK, because Kaneki totally failed at that).

Lately, people have been theorizing that Kaneki could become the phoenix we see in Uta’s tattoos [x][x]

so if we can somehow correlate this to the Nameless King, then I guess it might become Kaneki’s next title. 🙂

I have to admit that I’m a bit lost when it comes to where we are at in the Fool’s Journey. Some say we started the Sun arc, others that we already ended it and are moving onto Judgement, so since I’m not good at this type of symbolism, I’ll just not say anything. xDD

Anyway, no worries, Tokyo Ghoul the series isn’t ending with vol16. Maybe :Re is ending, but I wouldn’t even be sure of that.
No date for vol16 is possibly linked to Sensei and his editor not knowing yet how many chapters there will be inside (10? 12?) or something like that. 🙂

I hope it answers your question, thanks for passing by Anon!

Ahhh, the chapter at least finally explains what we saw as plot convenience until now, which is to say “why isn’t Seb taking care of Ciel’s revenge right away?”.

Turns out Ciel wants to kill whoever the mastermind is with his own hands, after finding out why his family had to die (Ciel my boy though, Tanaka, Frances and even UT probably know why though, so don’t you think it’s time to go and ask them?)

image

*whispers* they knowwwwwww (probably)

image

@your-lovers-and-drifters Oh I’ve been agreeing for a while that this sounds beyond strange, and actually from the moment I read all of the following…

image
image
image
image

that’s when I started thinking about deeply-rooted mommy-related issues for Vincent and Frances, probably because the way Claudia died was something they had a hard time facing and accepting (exactly like our!Ciel who can’t even refer to his parents as such after everything that he went through) and that led to the current situation we’re talking about.

I mean, frankly I can understand Ciel not knowing about a link between UT and Claudia since there is a possibility that even Frances and Vincent didn’t know, but not knowing about his whole family, about his grandmother, and thus mistakenly assuming things about his predecessors?
This goes beyond just being the second son and that’s why I agree there is most likely a reason besides plot convenience.

You mentioned Tanaka too, but the same goes where he’s concerned since Claudia was probably his first master and he most likely was Vincent & Frances’ parental figure after she died:

image

At least UT has the excuse of not exactly being a part of this family and thus not having to explain stuff, but Vincent, Tanaka and Frances?
They never told the children (Lizzie and Ed as well, most likely) probably because there is something that’s beyond ugly or sad about Claudia’s time as the Watchdog, or maybe the family in general.

It’s exactly the same explanation as to why Vincent already expected to die a few years before it happened [x][x] and I really feel for Frances who’s basically the last one with Tanaka to know all these secrets and decide if/when she should address them with her nephew (’cause I’m still kinda hoping that’s her role).

TL;DR I’d bet you whatever you want that Claudia is a big part of why Ciel is just “???” about his whole family + that Vincent’s death probably didn’t help Frances (and Tanaka) with taking the decision to address a painful subject.

I adressed this before, but basically we have a few hints indicating that Vincent and Frances were most likely close siblings, possibly because of what happened to their mom when they were still young. I mean, they bickered of course, but they wouldn’t have betrothed two of their kids together if they didn’t have a good reason to both think it was extremely important.

In other words, Ciel is ??? to this day about his own family, probably because Frances is ;_; about her brother and mother and same for Tanaka.

(As you can see it’s a subject I love and I wish we could address in canon sometimes before the century ends but I don’t wanna sound pressuring here xD)

ruingreystreak:

Alright, so.
We know that Lin isn’t as pro as the some killers. But, based on his bank account, he gets paid 9430 USD for killing that club worker. Let’s say there was personal grudge there and knock his average assassination pay to 9000.
Now, the Niwaka Samurai is gonna get paid a lot more to kill hitmen, but for easy maths, we’ll say he gets 10,000 USD.
In the scene where he saves Lin, there is anywhere from 11 to 9 people, (approx. 10) that Banba slays.
10×10,000=100,000 to clear that level.
(That’s charging the people like average customers, not Mob bosses and pro assassins like they are.)
Spicy pollock roe also called Mentaiko costs anywhere between $4.60-$14.97 but averages about 12 USD.
A lifetime supply is defined as “1 item per week for X amount of years”, but let’s over- estimate and say that Banba wants 1 spicy pollock roe a day for 5 years.
There are 365 days in a year, multiplied by 5 years, resulting in 1825 total days.
$12 (average price) × 1825 days = $21, 900 USD. Converted to yen for shits and giggles is 2,228,068.58.
Banba should have charged around 10,609,650.00 yen to empty out that warehouse.
Which means Lin got a discount of 8,381,581.42 or roughly 78,954.50 USD.
Which means he got the family, friends, and LOVERS discount. Which means they’re totally married.
#Change my mind.

Keep in mind that apparently Lin got Banba to install a bath. I have no idea how much that costs but you can add that to the tab.

Not bad for a freeloader.

HOLY SHIT

I AM SCREAMINGGGGGGGG

Hi Anon! No worries, it changes literally nothing to any theory about Brown 🙂 A lot of readers had already theorized he was supernatural anyway, so this just seems to narrow down his true nature more.

About December 14th though, maybe there is a misunderstanding but whoever attacked the manor (and if it’s Brown on the Queen’s behalf, it’s the same) totally wanted the twins to suffer before dying, which is why they made sure to give the twins to these child traffickers in the first place. Otherwise they would have simply killed them on the spot, like they did with Vincent and Rachel.

As for possible backup, I was actually discussing this with @thedarkestcrow yesterday as well and we think that one supernatural being could have been enough to annihilate the whole mansion, definitely, which means that…

image

Tanaka possibly wasn’t stabbed by a second supernatural being but rather by the human from the household who helped them (you know, the one who muzzled the dog, possibly amongst other things?). That could explain his surprise there…

image

and also his words…

image

…depending on what theory you believe in (RCMT for me ;_;).

The other possibility is that there really were 2 supernatural killers that night and something happened between the moment Tanaka was stabbed and the house completely burnt down, which led to one of the 2 disappearing/ceasing to exist somehow.

TL;DR you can take any theory about Brown being shady and keep them literally as such, just replace “possible shinigami” with “possible demon” (or corrupted angel, I guess -_-) instead.

I hope it answers your question! Don’t hesitate if things aren’t clear about December 14th, I mean, there are still things we don’t know (like who attacked Tanaka) but the intent behind the twins’ abduction seemed rather clear. 🙂

Have a nice day, Anon!

Hello Anon! And I guess I might agree to some extent, but since it’s not the first time I see this scenario between a manga and its early anime adaptation, I’m mostly fine with it (or I can grow up to be when I don’t like a development if you leave me time, like with the 2CT).

What I would hate would be a literal copy-pasting of S1 and S2, but so far Sensei changed enough things and made them more complex for this to work for me, at least for now (like Lizzie, UT, the lineage, the RCMT, the war subplot).

I’d rather follow the foreshadowing that she introduces in the manga, even if some of it is shared with the anime, and her development of the plot around Ciel’s family (since Claudia was nonexistent in the anime and is an interesting plot bait in my opinion, same for the Midfords) in order to enjoy the story.

I’m sorry that you feel like this though. :/ I guess the anime really was a mistake in more ways than one, with that at least I can definitely agree.

I hope you can still find ways to enjoy the manga, Anon! Lots of positive vibes. :333 Have a nice day!

I’m Going Ghoul!!!

linkspooky:

Ghoulification by poison in the air has been introduced as a concept, but it’d be no fun if the only characters that really got ghoulified were Saiko, and some one off character from one chapter of og tg. It’s likely more recognizable characters are going to get ghoulish as the fight continues to complicate things further rather than simply finding and retrieving a save all cure in one fell swoop.

So with that being said, I present to you my predictions on the most likely characters to be turned into ghouls among the human cast.

Yoriko Kosaka

The entire point of Yoriko’s character is that she’s an innocent right now dragged into this conflict by her association with both Takeomi and Touka.

Touka also made a deliberate choice not to confront Yoriko’s execution. The fact that she was pregnant also at the time becomes less and less of an excuse considering that once Kaneki was in danger, Touka did such bold things as walk in front of the CCG and remove her mask, and climb on top of Dragon’s back to retrieve him.

Touka made a deliberate choice to ignore Yoriko’s predicament and prioritize Kaneki over her. I’m not saying that this is the wrong choice, but it is a choice and choices should have consequences. Especially since Touka’s choice was made not out of a discussion, but rather Kaneki and Touka who are both avoidant people of uncomfortable things once again avoiding the topic all together.

Yoriko even says this came about because she didn’t try to understand Touka at all. My point is, this is a consequence that makes sense as a resolution in a story.

It’s a consequence for Bujin prioritizing his job as an investigator over personal feelings which is what everybody in the CCG does, it’s a consequence for Yoriko being pretty much forgotten in all of the dragon fuss, and for Yoriko herself not understanding what the conflicts ghouls and her ghoul best friend was going through.

As far as resolutions go it would be a way to keep Yoriko involved in the plot, rather than having her off somewhere sipping momosas on the beach waiting for this all to be over.

Suzuya Juuzou

This one is the most obvious foreshadowing, but Juuzou really does have yet to face any kind of consequence for what he did during the 24th ward raid. His blatant disregard for life is something he gets away with because he’s a human.

It makes almost little to no sense to give Juuzou all of the power and prestige of being Arima, to draw the comparison between the two characters, if there is not some kind of drawback. Something has to teach Juuzou to value life, and for Arima it was the awareness that he was part ghoul so no matter what he did he really was no different than the people he was slaughtering. He was a murderer to who could not live a normal life.

Amon Koutarou/Urie Kuki

These ones are longshots, but Urie already has the poison inside of him. Both Urie and Amon are also the ones who are extremely close to becoming ghouls but completely in denial of their ghoul nature.

Considering that Urie’s already activated both of his Kakugan before on his own, it’d be interesting to see him turn all the way this time, but unlike last time there’s no Saiko around to reverse it for him.

Fura Taishi

This one is just a minor guess but this panel seems so suspicious to me.

To be honest though I don’t really expect Fura to be relevant until the CCG finally gets hit with the revelation of who Arima truly was all along.

Kimi Nishino

This one is just wishful thinking but it’d be nice to see Kimi face some kind of consequence for her reckless use of ghoulification and victimization of ghoulification experiments for her own personal agenda.

Kimi’s also the one who specifies over and over again that the only reason she never became violent is because she so happened to be born a human.

Anyway, those are my guesses at whose going to be ghoulified. I’ll let @chan take it away from here with hers -> @midnight-in-town

Thanks for tagging me Spooky-chan! Tbh you already mentioned most of the characters I had considered going down the ghoul path, as you already know, which is to say Juuzou, Yoriko, Saiko and possibly Amon and Urie. :))

There is only one more I’d consider going down the ghoul path, maybe, and the rest will be characters I am not vouching will become ghouls.

Aura Shinsanpei

Master of irony best summed up by @eto-when-and-where here, he’d be an ideal candidate to experience a ghoulification in my opinion, if just because it might also trigger a slight development for his aunt Kiyoko as well (who’s one of the few remaining “old” investigators, with Marude and Mougan).

I don’t have as many arguments as you did for the others and maybe I’m biased, but that’s how I think for now.

Not Kimi

We disagree on her and my opinion is that she won’t become a ghoul because both her character and path in :Re are based on wanting to find a way for coexistence to work, so that she (a human) would be able to live with the man (a ghoul) she loves.

Granted that she took part in horrible things by following Kanou, but her motivation is what drove her to move forward all this time + she has no problems with ghouls in general, so ghoulification wouldn’t teach her much, besides immediately solving the problem that she has about not being able to live freely with Nishiki, which is counterproductive in my opinion.

So Kimi stays human and will have to find a way to solve this whole mess as her redemption, before she can be able to have that future that she wants with Nishiki.

Not Akira

Same as for Kimi, in my opinion, ghoulification will teach Akira absolutely nothing, because her issue lies with acknowledging that

  • her parents were also in the wrong
  • that she’s not a horrible and despising person if she admits that
  • (+ we can see that ghoulification DIDN’T help Amon on these exact same points until now, so you know, why bother?)

As a woman who fell for two OEGs and remained supportive of Kaneki despite claiming before that she hardly had anything to do with him since he wasn’t Haise anymore, Akira’s main dynamics are either with OEGs or with ghouls (Touka, Hina).

In other words, if that’s not enough to teach her that it’s important that she walks out of her father’s shadow, then I doubt ghoulification will help her further (again, same as for Amon who’s stuck in “no ghoul + Mado Kureo” mode despite being a OEG for at least 3 years), especially when she already threw out the whole system to save Takizawa.

We already discussed that in another post, but confrontation (and hopefully, realization) for Amon is definitely coming now that Donato showed up again. So maybe the same will come for Akira at approximately the same time, which is why now is a good time for Seidou to show up again in order to help them.

Not Ui

What’s left of his development comes from confronting (zombified) Arima and Hairu, who both came from the garden and thus have ghoul lineage, something that apparently totally flew over his head until now so, again, ghoulification in itself wouldn’t bring him much because his issues aren’t about the ghoul kind but about being left behind.

Arima didn’t tell him about his plans, Hairu fancied Arima and not him, but becoming a ghoul won’t help him acknowledge why, especially when he already moved on from Take and Arima “betraying” the CCG, in my opinion.

EDIT: I forgot, NOT HIDE either

Hide is great as a very intelligent human who managed mostly on his own so far. Not gonna expand because he literally has no issues with ghouls whatsoever, so ghoulification would bring him nothing for his development (except a new throat I guess, but that can be solved if medicine and science improve, like Kanou expected them to, thanks to new ghoul biology knowledge).

There you go!

Am I the only one that is wondering/disappointed that this chapter didn’t explain the reason why Sebastian’s more “suitable” form for O!Ciel looks exactly like his father

akumadeenglish:

Mmm, personally, I wasn’t disappointed because I have never expected it to be ever revealed at some point in the story in the first place!

Yana once stated on her blog that there’s a reason why Sebastian and Vincent look similar, but it probably won’t be addressed within the story (source), so I assume it’s not really relevant to the plot – just like Yana won’t ever reveal Sebastian’s true nature (i.e. whether he is Satan, Lucifer, Malphas or whatever) because it’s irrelevant.
