She pointed out how background in Uta’s last panel is smilar to background OEK had back in chapter 51 of first manga.
Obviously this might not mean nothing (it is not uncommon for backgrounds to be overused in manga) but at same time I think this should not be overlooked due theory that Uta might be Underground King (originally created by @midnight-in-town).
I thought this catch of hers was too interesting and it would be crime not to share this since I haven’t noticed anybody else mentioning this as well.
ah no, they don’t have 90%! their kagune traces match about 64%, which is much higher than usual siblings. this is likely because ayato ate touka’s kagune/ kakuhou back in the 11th ward, but the ccg doesn’t know about this after all.
basically what this scene was saying was that black rabbit and rabbit can’t be twins because it’s lower than 90% but the ccg doesn’t think they’re siblings as well because it should be 50% in that case.
so the conclusion the ccg came to was that black rabbit and the original rabbit was the same ghoul and the kagune traces varied because rabbit likely cannibalized. the point of this scene was likely to tell us how the rabbit investigations were wrapped up since back in tg, there was that question about whether black rabbit was the same rabbit amon and akira were investigating. to the ccg, they probably thought it’s the same ghoul and so, ayato successfully took over touka’s alias and she wasn’t pursued anymore.
if you want to stretch it a little further, this also explains why the ccg never connected rabbit to arata through the kagune traces like they did with kanae and the roswald family. arata’s cannibalising meant that his kagune weren’t a close match to rabbit as the usual parent-child case. it’s the same with yomo when he was raven since he went around cannibalising as well.
though i also saw this scene as a foreshadow that ayato was going to eventually get a kakuja and given current events, that does seem very likely.
This is an excellent post but I think you missed out on one point. There’s actually an on screen reason why Touka and Ayato would have a closer than average siblings Kakuhou, but not so close that they resembled twins.
Remember Ayato’s cannibalizing made him more similiar to Touka’s kagune, it did not make his kagune different, such as in the case of Arata which is a pretty proper deduction as to why they never connected the rabbit case to Arata. (Kanae and the Tsukiyamas as a whole are incapable of forming Kakuja due to genetic defect, so if your theory were to hold true that could also explain why despite some cannibalism that the Tsukiyamas are known to do, Kanae was still detected.)
We see Ayato commit cannibalism onscreen however, but the person he cannibalized directly was Touka.
Considering she can’t even make a kagune after this, it’s fair to assume that Ayato did what Kaneki did and went all the way down to the Kakuhou and devoured it, but stopped short there.
They even both remark on the poor taste afterwards, paralleling one another.
My point, immediately after this Kaneki says this about Ayato’s every single action with Touka before this.
It’s possible then that the cannibalism too was part of Ayato’s plans. To make his kagune more indistinguishable from hers so when he took the identity of Rabbit he’d be able to more effectively cover for her, and the CCG would not be able to deduce so easily that there were in fact two rabbits.
Ayato’s actually pretty clever on his own when he wants to be. He organized the second cochlea breach mostly on his own with the help of Banjou. He already knew about the existence of the CCG’s rating system, and apparently figured out that Rabbit was Touka all on his own before this point and that the CCG was specifically hunting rabbit. So it’s pretty feasible that he could put this together, especially since he seemed to know about cannibalism and specifically on his own decided to target the Kakuhou and the kagune the same way Kaneki did with Yamori.
Kagune similarities though are not calculated by genetic testing from a mutated kagune like what happens with cannibalism, but by the markings they leave behind. Ayato simply making a conscious effort to copy Touka’s kagune like he did when he took over Rabbit could be a reason why they have a higher than average sibling similarity since most siblings wouldn’t be trying to copy each other.
Becoming a kakuja takes an enormous amount of cannibalism, so I’m just wondering whether eating one kagune would make enough difference to Ayato’s kagune to bump it up from an average of 50% sibling match to 64%.
Symbolically, Ayato eating her kagune may have been a sort of “passing of the torch” of the Rabbit alias, similar to Kaneki thinking he was taking Yamori’s strength by eating him. But I think he ate her kagune for the same reason he struck her in Anteiku when she went to charge at Jason; to take her out of the fight. If she doesn’t have a kagune, she can’t fight and has to retreat.
I think the point of that scene was to show that thee CCG had figured there was only one rabbit even though the kagune markings didn’t match 100% because they wrongly deduced rabbit had been cannibalising.
(possible) demons and their favorite species of animals tho’ (maybe they can feel their true nature)…
@justacynicalromantic : An excellent remark! You’ll note that I wrote it was only a possibility though, but yeah otherwise it’s precisely why I used to think that Brown was most likely a Shinigami until last month, because their eyes are very typical, unlike Seb who can hide his demon eyes most of the time (that is, unless he’s using his demon powers). 🙂
However, the issue here is that I doubt Shinigamis can “make human believe someone dead is alive” the way demons apparently can, at least according to Seb in ch138 and considering Victoria’s reaction anytime Brown takes out that puppet, which is why I now think Brown being a demon is more likely than him being a Shinigami.
So to solve the glasses issue, for example if Brown is constantly using his demon powers (considering the number of times Victoria can break down about Albert and needs the puppet), maybe it’s why he needs to be hiding his eyes. In comparison, Seb rarely ever uses his demon powers for his everyday tasks as a butler, which is probably why he doesn’t bother/need hiding his.
EDIT: crack idea as another explanation but, since for now I believe the Queen to be the big bad and Brown the guy who attacked the manor on December 14th, maybe something
else
happened that night (remember, we still don’t know how and why the fire started, how Tanaka managed to escape and survive, etc) which scarred Brown and he now needs glasses to cover it because (for one reason or another) he can’t heal.
Keep in mind that I am not 100% convinced Brown is a demon, it’s just that the last chapter seemed to have tilted the balance more in favor of this possibility that the Shinigami one, in my opinion. 🙂 I hope it answers your question!
(possible) demons and their favorite species of animals tho’ (maybe they can feel their true nature)…
Hi Anon! Okay, so I’m so sorry for the delay but Soma is one of these characters for whom I’m currently really uncertain about what will happen to him.
Personally, here’s what I want him to do…
…which means that he’d learn about the 2CT and realize that our!Ciel had nothing to do with Agni’s death, that he’d stay by our!Ciel’s side despite everything that happened… because Soma is one of the few characters who really understand Ciel, despite Ciel keeping a lot of things to himself and sometimes acting harshly.
In other words, Soma becoming the Diedrich to Ciel’s Vincent would be amazing, because Ciel needs more people like him and Lizzie in his life. Of course Sieglinde and Edward are other characters who are slowly becoming closer to Ciel, but neither share the proximity that Soma has with Ciel in my opinion (Lizzie being yet on another level).
The problem (and the reason I’m not really certain of anything) is that Agni died. So, while I do think that Soma will most likely find out about the 2CT (thanks to Sieglinde and/or Ed probably), the question remains whether he’ll stay in England afterwards or not.
It’s a problem I initially had with Sieglinde back in the GW arc before Ciel made sure to save Wolfram, because how is Soma going to do on his own, without his khansama? Where will he live, what will he do? That’s why I can’t exclude the idea that Sensei maybe intends on leading him back to India until the final arc or something… ://
Of course, it’d be a development that I currently am not fond of, because I want Ciel and Soma to bond even more, I want Soma to tell Ciel what he really thinks and I want him to stay, but if Soma stays now that Agni is dead and that it really shook him…
it will possibly lead to Soma slowly becoming one of Ciel’s new Evil Nobles (so acting more serious indeed) and this might clash with what Agni wanted for his master.
Agni wasn’t very happy when he realized how Soma was used in Ciel’s plan to take the Sphere Music Hall down so, if Soma still decides to become Ciel’s Agni after everything that happened, it will most likely lead to more schemes like this, which is also why I’m not certain of what Sensei wants to do with Soma.
In my opinion, there are two big possibilities once the twin is dead/this arc is over:
Soma will stay and decide to become Ciel’s Agni at the end of this arc
Soma will realize that Ciel didn’t kill Agni but he won’t be able to stay in England after Agni’s death and so we will say goodbye to him until at least the final arc.
For now I’m really hoping for #1, because I love Soma and I think that everything he said in ch126 is relevant + would be helpful to Ciel’s character (especially since him and Ciel do parallel each other), but Agni’s death is creating a lot of uncertainty. ://
Mainly it depends on what Sensei wants to do with Ciel’s character. I mean, if Soma stays because he’ll still want to be Ciel’s Agni, then it implies more positive development for Ciel. If Soma attacks Ciel or if Soma finds out about the truth but still decides to leave however, then Ciel will blame himself even more…
and clearly this isn’t what he needs right now. ://
Sorry that this seems so confusing, Anon. I just… don’t know what’s more likely at this point. Hopefully Soma will stay, I truly hope he will for many reasons, but the master/servant dynamic is such a pattern in Kuro that, after being deprived of his, it kinda throws Soma’s character off-balance…
That’s why we’ll have to see what he does in this arc first, about the twin and about his anger.
Have a nice day Anon!
So I was rereading the curry arc and…
it reminded me that Soma apparently knows traditional Indian martial arts and also that the reason he initially saved Agni was because…
he wanted a new sparring partner.
So does this mean that Soma can actually fight? Because if so, then not only does the revenge wish suddenly make a lot more sense…
+ What I said above might tilt in favor of him staying in England after the current arc, since it’d mean that, while he would have no servant, at least he would be capable of taking care of his own safety against normal enemies (since being associated to Ciel remains dangerous).
But you know, the fact that we always only saw Agni fight is kinda similar to Seb always protecting Ciel: sometimes it makes us forget how capable their master actually are, while obviously not being on their butler’s level.
For example, Ciel does quite well with guns and, with the panels above, maybe it’s going to turn out that Soma is quite capable himself. So add that to his intelligence and I’d actually love for him to stay and become one of Ciel’s evil noble (instead of him going back to India).
now I’m just imagining after this is all over, Ayato talking to Kaneki when it accidentally slips out:
Ayato: oi Aniki Kaneki: ……. w-what did you just call me? Ayato, suddenly realising: KANEKI I SAID KANEKI!!! Kaneki: …… Ayato-kun
and Kaneki gets all teary and there’s shoujo flowers appearing above his head and from then on he goes around telling everyone “meet my litte brother Ayato” and Ayato wants to dissolve into the Earth
What if Renji, after watching his nephew Ayato and Kaneki being brothers-in-law on such good terms, waits for Kaneki to call him uncle Yomo
Only to remember that Kaneki (and the Kirishima siblings themselves) actually have no clue that he’s Touka’s and Ayato’s uncle
(Maybe eventually they find out and Renji is super happy when they call him Uncle
Uta, definitely, if he were to put sentimentality to the side (but he won’t) – we still haven’t seen him properly fight but I’ll physically eat all 28+ volumes of this manga if he’s not stronger and smarter in battle than his buddy. I do think everyone’s grossly underestimating Renji though, I’m fully expecting Uta to struggle a little. He’ll still come out on top though. I violently do not want him to play his trump card; if I see arata!Uta or touka!Uta, I’ll never recover.
For what it’s worth though, I don’t think either will ‘win’ per se, and I definitely don’t think either will die. Best guess? Rough battle, really sad dialogue that will have my heart bustin’ out my chest, hopefully an origin story or massive Uta reveal, both left bloody messes, Itori intervenes and ends it, #TeamPierrot take off.
I wanna see two (2) horrifying, beautiful kakuja monsters.
