Hey I wonder about if Yuri will ever search/find out about why Oku and Obaba used to be exorcists but quit at some point? Which led them to become homeless, I suppose?
With everything about Section 13 and Asylum, it would be interesting if Sensei were to show that a few exorcists couldn’t maybe handle a few secrets they found out about and chose to leave the Organization instead of being associated with it?
Especially since one could argue that the way they died was a little suspicious. I mean, there is no real argument or proof, because Yuri was 6, the scene was quick and they said it was a fire but was it really accidental? Who knows.
… Now that I think about it though, It’s kinda the same about Yuri’s biological family’s situation because…
what about this super shady family business that’s quickly mentioned?
I’d consider it random, just giving a reason to why she had no family in the first place, but her family name is also the name of the demon king of water at least in English. Maybe there is a difference in Japanese when it comes to how it’s written, I have no idea, but it would be interesting if it wasn’t a coincidence, leading to Yuri reasearching about her past and the people she used to live with.
So was Oku’s name really “Oku” and Yuri decided her sons would have a (made-up) related family name because he was like her surrogate father? Or maybe it was actually “Okumura” and it’s because she’ll research about him, find out about this and why he left the Organization, that she’ll give his name to her sons?
I don’t know but I feel ch100 and ch101 still have bits that are shady despite this trip in the past being supposed to be about giving Rin answers…
I was thinking about this again and I wonder if the cliffhanger of the last chapter couldn’t eventually lead to Yuri researching about all of what’s mentioned above, especially Oku’s and Obaba’s defections. Because…
…finally meeting Goro/Rinka/Satan (and seeing him most likely getting captured again) might make her find out/understand about Section 13, thanks to what Shiro already told her about his life.
Unless it will really have to be for later because she won’t think about her foster parents until she’s going to be pregnant herself?
In any case, there is no way that Yuri, who believes that “exorcists save people from demons (but don’t kill perfectly safe demons)”, wouldn’t be against everything that Section 13 represents, even if that gave Rinka a vessel.
I’d really love Yuri realizing that the Order is full of bad business (namely through realizing that Shiro’s awful childhood is totally linked to that) and that she will follow in the steps of Oku, the man who raised her, and leave it behind.
It would make a nice symbolism as to why she then decided (or Shiro did, if she told him about it?) that she’d give his name/a related name to her sons.
Besides, Rin is witnessing all of it and so it’d make sense that he has to see something like this too: Shiro was chained to the Order from birth to death (as Mephisto claimed in ch101) but nothing says Yuri will agree to it for herself and that could lead to Rin wondering about what he will do in the current timeline.
I’m sorry Anon, I’m not quite sure what you mean! Are you saying Eren might “sisterzone” Mikasa or that the writing is? I’ll answer both, if that’s okay.
The writing definitely is not “sisterzoning” Mikasa. Mikasa’s feelings I think are abundantly clear after chapter 50, in which it’s entirely possible she was moving to kiss him during the Clash of the Titans Arc. For the record, I didn’t ship it until chapter 50, though I did always think she had feelings for him.
I don’t think it’s a realistic reading to deny that Mikasa canonically has romantic feelings for Eren–it’s kind of blatant. Furthermore, Falco’s feelings for Gabi also clearly have a romantic component; pretending to be siblings doesn’t really change that and I just don’t think that situation is the best comparison as I doubt it’ll have further relevance.
As for how Eren sees Mikasa, that’s a different story all together, and Isayama pointing out Eren sees her as a motherly presence is not the same thing as saying Mikasa sees herself in a maternal sense (but there is some Oedipal-ness there). And it’s true–Mikasa is always trying to protect him as Carla asked her to do, but she would have done that anyways because she pretty clearly sees him as a major part of her identity, even to an unhealthy extent which I’ve talked about before, and that protectiveness is actually pushing Eren away in some sense. I do think the end goal of Mikasa’s arc has to be growing away from Eren; that being said, it’s not unrealistic to imagine that Eren would realize they could have had a happy future if, if, if.
If the circumstances of their world weren’t so cruel.
If they didn’t have to constantly fight to survive.
If Eren didn’t have a time limit on his lifespan.
If he’d decided not to go to Marlay.
Eren’s arc is tragic as hell. Even looking at the symbolism in the scene from chapter 50. Mikasa is essentially telling him she loves him, maybe wants to kiss him, and he focuses on I want to fight to save you. In doing that, he saves her, but he also loses that moment.
Eren will probably help save humanity even if Armin is the actual hero, but the cost is pretty clearly going to be his relationship with his loved ones–though I do absolutely think Mikasa and Armin will love Eren no matter how they disapprove of his actions, and I think he will love them regardless. But the closeness and the future, however short, they might have had, is probably gone.
And Mikasa knows this as she says here:
There isn’t a happy ending for them together like she’d have wanted, but she’s still clinging as we see in recent chapters wherein her clinging almost leads to her and Armin getting blown up.
To save the rest of her loved ones, Mikasa won’t be able to save Eren. I think that’s definitely where the story is going, but I do think it’s also realistic that Eren and Mikasa will have a moment wherein Eren acknowledges what could have been, and that he loves her, regardless of whether there is a romantic component.
I personally think there is likely to be (the set up is obvious, like with Touka and Kaneki in TG or Ochaco and Izuku in BNHA–it’s def a darker story with no hope for a happy ending for them, but main female character + main male character in this kind of story with a scene like chapter 50 that is clearly designed to put romance in the reader’s mind, is almost certainly intended to be romantic, plus we know Mikasa feels romantically). That being said, I also think it doesn’t actually matter whether or not Eren acknowledges romantic feelings for Mikasa. I just want him to acknowledge, and tell her, that he loves her and is grateful to her–because he does and is, regardless of whether that is familial or platonic or romantic, and the exact definition of that love doesn’t matter to the overall tragedy and beauty of their story. But acknowledging Mikasa’s personal romantic feelings would be a beautiful ending, imo, but that’s just my preference.
I will say… these are excellent questions to ponder and consider. I don’t have a theory exactly, if anything, I have more questions. The story and canon source material has not given us much deep insight into Rachel Phantomhive, and why Vincent fell in love with her, and chose her as his wife.
I know that this may disappoint some Vincent-stans, but it’s a question I have often deeply pondered myself– and it doesn’t reflect well upon him as a father or exactly make him look the most responsible. In the very first place: Why did Vincent get to marry for love as the Queen’s Guard Dog and have that privilege? Was it because his mother died when he was still young, and did not yet decide who he would marry? In that case, why is this something that he felt he could take away from his own son by betrothing him to Elizabeth? I understand why he did this, to protect him and try to provide that security and all, but it’s still a BOLD move to make as a father, for his son. To just put them both together often enough, and HOPE they fell in love. (For that matter it was a colossal move to make on the part of Elizabeth’s mother– subjecting her daughter to that life and training her from a young age to handle it– but that’s another topic).
In the second place: If he had the right to marry whomever he wanted and take whoever he wanted as a wife, why then, would he choose a wife that had such health problems? As far as we know, Rachel had a sweet and playful demeanor most of the time– and had asthma and sometimes got sick. Hardly the ideal match for the Queen’s Guard Dog. The only answer I have, is that it was a very genuine, and deep– even irresponsible and selfish, love. A love that he might have known would be difficult and dangerous, but despite that, he went through with it anyway.
They died in one another’s arms, Vincent holding her in a protective way… they were in love, no doubt about that. But I will say this… even if Rachel didn’t have a darker side to her, I think the fact she married him in the first place when she was so caring and so sweet may speak to her character by itself. Maybe she was the kindness that Vincent needed in his life to face what he had to face on a daily basis.
OR…
Given that her sister had the capacity to become a vengeful serial killer, it’s also entirely possible that she DID have a dark side to her, secrets that have not been revealed to us yet. People tend to forget that her side of the family had those vengeful, serial killer genes! So maybe she was more involved with Vincent’s position than one would believe? Maybe she was guilty of something and Vincent caught her and loved her too much to arrest her? I don’t know, but I wish that I did.
I know I didn’t answer any questions but – there’s my two cents.
Recently, I wrote this post about how Abberline might be able to put some of the pieces together. After all, he realizes that there was little reason for our!Ciel to take on his brother’s identity, and this is more than just a matter of avoiding taxes.
He’s going to be investigating more. If he talks to Prince Soma and Sieglinde, he could even learn a bit more because both of them have a piece of our!Ciel’s story. Soma knows that our!Ciel was kidnapped and tortured by a cult. Sieglinde knows that he was offered as a sacrifice to a demon. Those two clues might really help Abberline in figuring out the truth. However, there is one more piece of the puzzle.
Gregory Violet.
After all, Violet knows that real!Ciel is Sirius, and he also knows why the Blue Sect needed to collect blood. While we have no idea what real!Ciel is telling people about his whereabouts for the past 3 years, Violet does know a bit more. He knows that there’s something much different about real!Ciel.
Last we heard of Violet, he was taking to a hospital as he was barely alive. Presumably he is still there, or he might have been arrested if he has recovered enough. Either way, he would be easy for Abberline to interrogate, and he might have a lot to say.
If it is Edward who figures this out instead of Abberline, as suggested by @midnight-in-town, this train of thought still stands. Violet still could be another piece of the puzzle.
