I feel like this chapter really changed the meaning of that one line ciel said to sebastian about trusting him least of all because before it was a kind of like a oh haha yeah that’s right fuck sebastian that guy sucks but seeing this and what he did to his twin and kind of manipulating him into a contract it’s like yeah I can really see why he doesn’t trust him at all
Listen I gotta share, because it’s so cute and it’s totally one of these things that personally I can only notice during an insomnia phase, a little over a month away from a very important exam. xD
I’m talking about Rin’s confession to Shiemi in ch73 and the awkward moment of adorable confusion that followed. In between though, here’s what I missed till ten hours ago:
The whole scene has Shiemi with her head on Rin’s shoulder, until she moves away and flushes after what he said, but look at what he does next…
He shifts closer, as if leaning in a little while Shiemi goes “? Rin?”, but then he remembers Yukio so he shifts back quickly…
and starts asking about if maybe Shiemi wouldn’t actually prefer Yukio. Then the rest of the chapter goes on.
Anyway, maybe I’m just super late and other fans had already noticed, but I love how a good use of paneling is actually putting in the foreground more unspoken details of that cute scene
(I mean, I’m not sure Shiemi realized what he almost tried), especially since it’s exactly like Rin to get a little carried away.
In the first place, it’s Shiemi acting so nice and close that led to him blurting out his feelings, before almost going for a kiss after she said that she was happy to hear that. He forgot everything for like a minute, because that’s how he is, until Yukio came to mind, since inwardly he doesn’t want to fight with him on this.
The whole scene is just… really like Rin and honestly it’s cute.
okokokokokok so I was just discussing with @thedarkestcrow AND WE JUST REALIZED
GUYS FOR REAL DOESN’T THIS REMIND YOU OF SOMETHING?!
I AM SCREAMINGGGGGGGG
So I got a few questions over the last few months about if demons are really the only ones who can trick humans with the “dead people coming back” lie (when UT is doing it too literally with the BD project) and it took me a long time, but…
here is the panel I was talking about!
So yeah, it really looks like only demons can do that and it doesn’t even work on Shinigamis who can see through that hability of theirs (just like Shinigamis can see through their human disguise no problem).
That means that the probability for Brown to be a demon (angel?) still seems higher than for him to be a Shinigami, since he seems to be doing that with Victoria, in my opinion.
As for the sunglasses, I spoke about this before, but maybe they are a double feint (Sensei making us think Brown is hiding Shinigami eyes beneath it, like UT with his bangs, when nope) and Victoria is just enjoying when he’s wearing them so he constantly does or something. xD
I’d like to start of with this quote by Touka in the novels.
“What the hell do you know? It’s all because I can’t eat, because I could become a target at any time, all because I’m a ghoul! No matter how much I try, there’s a wall I can never jump over, and there’s happiness I can never have. But I’m still hanging on to life. Despite it all”
Followed by this from part 1.
And of course this from Yomo.
As you can see there’s a pattern, and if I wanted to I could indulge you with a fuckton more Touka quotes/panels to further exemplify these, but I digress because I ramble too much and words alone aren’t enough to truly encapsulate everything in its entirety😒.
Alrighty then, let’s get this long rambling journey started! I dub thee:
“Strength in weakness and Weakness in strength”
What makes Touka such an interesting character for me in terms of her writing is that there’s a lot of nuances to her that make her so fascinating to read. Because of these elements, I feel as though leads to a general misconception/misunderstanding of her character in favor of either completely overlooking or simply dismissing them and marking them as purely simplistic and well… not important/uninteresting. I for one believe that there lies a profound complex simplicity and simple complexity of sorts to a lot of these nuances that can be very easy to miss, but are of crucial note to consider, most especially the subtleties to her growth in :re alongside many important thematic elements of the story, other characters and herself.
